Overview
Do you want to record yourself playing so your friends or fans can play with you? It’s pretty easy, let’s walk through it.A Let’s Replay lasts about 10 minutes. You probably want to try playing one before making one just to see what they are like.
Opening the Record area
Walk to the Episode you want to Let’s Replay, then press the Record button:
Setup & Test Your Microphone
On the right side of the panel, choose your microphone. Use the default record volume of 100%.
Press the ‘Test Microphone’ button.
You will now have a small ingame tutorial to test out your microphone. Repeat the tutorial as many times as you want until your voice volume sounds good to you.
Note: Record volume above 100% should be a last resort since it can add distortion to your audio. Try to make sure your microphone volume is all the way up in your Windows/Mac volume settings.
Step 1: Record A Replay Locally
Press the Red record button.
You will now be recorded while you play the entire episode. Your replay will not be uploaded automatically, you will have a chance to test it and choose if you want to upload it to the Steam Workshop later.
Play all 5 arenas, then at the end, say goodbye and press ‘Stop Recording’, then return to the Record menu.
Step 2: Play & Test Locally
Now that your replay is recorded, you can try playing it by pressing the ‘Play & Test Locally’ button.
Your replay is still not uploaded at this point, only you can see and play it.
If you are not happy with it, you can simply record another one.
Advanced Note: Before being uploaded to the Steam Workshop, your replay is stored to the Time Rifters install folder something like this:
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonTimeRiftersTimeRifters_DataReplaysLocal
0 = Episode 1
1 = Episode 2
2 = Episode 3
3 = Microphone Test
Advanced Note: You can only see one recording at a time ingame, but if you over-write one and want to get it back, they are not deleted, only renamed. The currently active one is called Replay.zip
Step 3: Upload to Steam Workshop
Want to change the Image?
The icon for your Let’s Replay is your current Steam avatar image. If you want a different image to be used, temporarily change your Steam avatar. You can change it back to your normal avatar after you are done uploading. You need to close and re-open the record panel to refresh the image.
Press the ‘Upload to Steam Workshop’ button.
The replays are typically about 50 MB. So depending on your internet connection it could take a few minutes to upload.
Note: Sorry about the lack of progress indicator, the steam workshop API doesn’t return progress as it uploads for some reason, you will only ever see 0% then almost immediately 100% towards the end…
Now it should pop up a window with your newly uploaded workshop item. You can now use the standard Steam Workshop interface to customize the title & description as well as visibility (public, friends-only, hidden).
Conclusion
You’re all done! You should see your Let’s Replay listed when you filter by ‘Recent’ it may take a minute for the list to update.
Now your friends and fans can play along with you. They can even get highscores on your replay.
If you want an easy way to share, you can share the Steam link to your workshop item and people can subscribe to it. Then when they change the filter to ‘Subscribed’ it will show your Let’s Replay.
Have Fun!
