Sven Co-op Guide

How to create and upload a custom Spray/Logo for Sven Co-op

How to create and upload a custom Spray/Logo

Overview

I noticed that some of the guides on uploading custom sprays to the gold source engine were a little obscure or didn’t work for everyone so I created this guide to show everyone a straight forward way how I do it and hopefully it works out for all of you. As a heads-up, adding sprays in gold source is a very tedious process so just keep that in mind as you are following along.

Step 1: Getting an Image

You’ll first want to obtain the image you want to turn into a spray, for this tutorial i’m using a little whip I made on paint.

It is important that the sizing of your image be appropriate.
Images that are too large will show as up as a small orange lambda sign when sprayed in game (we need to avoid that).

I like to use the sizes (which are in pixels x pixels):
128 x 64
64 x 128
and 96 x 96

You can resize images with photoshop or microsoft paint or your choice of image editting software.

Once you’re done with the resizing, name it whatever you want but you need to save it as a .BMP file type (if you don’t save it as a .bmp the spray simply wont work)

For the rest of the tutorial I will refer to your newly saved image as “your_sprays_name”.BMP

Step 2: Spray Editor

For this tutorial we will be using

Wally as a spray editor.

I found Wally to work the best when making sprays. You can find Wally to download online, but please remember to always be careful when loading software from online sources. Only download from reputable sites and always scan the files for malware, viruses, spyware, and all other forms of malicious software and computer mischievous.

You’ve been warned! I am not responsible for you downloading malicious software by mistake!

Load up Wally and go to “Wizard” tool bar and click “HL Color Decal”

Navigate to the “Source Image” box and click the “Files on hard drive:” bubble, then click the ” … ” to navigate your folders. Select the .BMP image you made earlier and click open.

You should now see your spray

Go to “File” in the upper left corner and navigate down to “Save As”

save the image as a “pldecal.wad”

Step 3: Uploading the Image

You will now want to make a duplicate of your “pldecal.wad” you just saved and name the duplicate “tempdecal.wad”

Now select both pldecal and tempdecal, righ click and click properites.

click read only

Now navigate to your “Svencoop” which should be in:

C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSven Co-opsvencoop

“Program Files (x86)” may vary depending on your CPU but just look for a “Program Files” folder in general if you dont have a “Program Files (x86)” folder.

I like to create a folder within my “svencoop” folder just for storing my custom sprays so go ahead and create one now called “sprays”. For this tutorial I made a folder subfolder within “sprays” called “tutorial”. Go ahead and make your own called “tutorial” as well.

Now copy and paste your pldecal, tempdecal, and “your_sprays_name”.BMP files into that “tutorial” folder you created.

create a subfolder within “tutorial” called “logos” and place your “your_sprays_name”.BMP you created earlier into that folder

Copy and Paste the selected items from above that are inside your “tutorial” folder to your “svencoop” folder

which is, again, located at:
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSven Co-opsvencoop

From here you will need to click the “replace the files in the destination” dialog that pops up to over write your old selected spray files. (this doesn’t do any harm to vanilla sprays, you can still choose to use them later if you want)

Finally you need to locate and delete the “custom.hpk” file within the “svencoop” folder so Sven Co-op can make a new one just for your spray. (you will need to do this everytime you upload a new custom spray)

Step 4: Selecting the Spray

Start up Sven Co-op and go to “Options” and click the “Multiplayer” tab.

Navigate to the “Spraypaint Image” box and click the selection box underneath.

Look for what you named .BMP file we created at the begining of the tutorial and select it. For this tutorial, I named my image “Untitled.” Click “OK”

Go in game and spray your image on a wall and there you have it.

You’ve created and uploaded your very first custom spray!
