How to create custom texture for the Dakimura mod for Zombie Panic! Source

How to create custom texture for the Dakimura mod

Overview

This guide explains to you how to add your own custom texture for the Dakimura mod in 3.1 version of Zombie Panic! Source.

Introduction

So you want to have a custom dakimura texture.
I have a easy to do short guide where you download a template I made and convert it to a working texture to use and if that doesn’t work or you are in it for the journey you can use the long guide on how I did it.
This guide is for Window’s PC (Linux might have different file paths, image editing software, etc. don’t have a Linux PC sorry ¯_(ツ)_/¯)

Short Easy template guide:

1) Get the Dakkimura mod

Subscribe to Dakimura of your choice.
In this example I will be using Dakimura – Ritona Reighnvhasta:
[link]

2) Get the Template

Download the template I made below. to do so, click on it to open it up and right click and save as diff.png. (you may need to open the template image/ guide in a internet browser as doing it from steam app doesn’t seem to work)

3) Customise

Customise the pillow with whatever you want. you don’t need to download a image editing software(it is recommended however) as you are able to use Paint if you wanted. (draw your own or find a good image on the internet). Make sure everything is within it’s section (Front side, Back side. The black area does not show up in-game)

4) Convert to .vtf

Goto a vtf converter site to make that .png file to a usable .vtf file:
[link]
if you ever made a custom spray before this should be simple to you.
Click the “Choose Files” button and upload the .png you created.
The click “Convert” (should take a sec) and then click on the “Save as VTF”
you will now have a diff.vtf (as long as you make sure the file name is diff.vtf else it will not work)

5) Replace the old .vtf

Once it’s downloaded you need to locate the file you are going to be replacing:
diff.vft
C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent175002500725703materialsweaponsv_bodypillow
This is where I found mine.
and Replace!

6) Enjoy!

Have fun with your new body pillow 😀

Long Manual guide:

Things you will need:
-A Dakimura mod where you will be replacing the textures
-Image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, etc and a plug-in/add-on to open .vft)

1) Get the Dakkimura mod

Subscribe to Dakimura of your choice.
In this example I will be using Dakimura – Ritona Reighnvhasta:
[link]
if you downloaded another one you will have different file-path you need to locate. (Please note: i do not recommend having multiple Dakimura mods downloaded make sure you only have one, unsubscribe the others)

2)Grab the .vtf file

Once it’s downloaded you need to locate the file you are going to be replacing :
diff.vft
C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent175002500725703materialsweaponsv_bodypillow
This is where I found mine.

3) Get your image editing software working

Now comes the hard part: you will need to open the diff.vft file with your image editing software (I will be using GIMP which is free to use: [link].
Make sure you havea plug-in that allow you to open .vft files installed.(GIMP VTF plugin: [link]
To do this for GIMP extract the zip file and place them in the plug-ins folder:
C:UsersUSER_NAMEAppDataRoamingGIMP2.10plug-ins
USER_NAME is what you set you User name for Windows to.
(this might be in a different location, refer to the readme provide in the zip folder for more details)
Now you should be able to open diff.vtf!

4) Customise

Now the fun part! you able draw/replace the pillow cover with whatever you want!
Please note the black area under the pillow will not show up in game(experiment to see what works and make adjustment when you need to)
(Also I will not be showing how to use Gimp or the image software of your choice there are much better guide on how to use such tool, you made it this far so push on!!!)

5) Coverting to .png then back to vtf

Once you are done you are going to need to export it as a PNG to apply the image you replaced then back to .vtf format to get it to function in-game.

File/Export as…

DO NOT EXPORT IT AS IT IS AS THIS WILL NOT WORK CHANGE THE FILE EXTENSION TO PNG IN THE NAME
EXAMPLE CALL IT: diff.png

Once you do that the replacement image is applied.

now you want to go to a site that can convent the newly made .png back to .vtf
we will be using [link] or type vtf spray converter in google.
Click the “Choose Files” button and upload the .png you created.
The click “Convert” (should take a sec) and then click on the “Save as VTF”
you will now have a diff.vtf (as long as you make sure the file name is diff.vtf else it will not work)

6) Replacing and Enjoying

All you need to do now is to replace the workshop diff.vtf file with the one you created and enjoy!

Final works and Credits

BACKUPS CAN SAVE YOU IF ANYTHING GO WRONG. ALSO YOU COULD UNSUB THE DAKIMURA MOD THEN RESUB TO GET THE ORIGINAL MOD BACK
Any links used are subject to change (At the time of writing they all work fine)
This guide is created for entertainment purpose only and all credits should go to their respected owners.
I take no responsibility for any NSFW or furry uploads on the steam workshop or images, that is their choice.
I am sure the Devs will like any custom textures you made on steam and on the ZPS offical server 🙂
