Overview
This is all with a controller. Sorry if you’re on keyboard and mouse as I don’t think that’s a good thing to learn with.i can t put the movie because the autoral directsSpawn the Cherrier Vivace, the rally addition for gravel. It’s located towards the bottom of that car section. The drift cars already set up for drifting are not for beginners. You’re not Drift King yet, you’re the dude at the docks hitting everything leaning to drift on Tokyo Drift. Watch this little clip yes, it’s a movie, yes it’s probably not even real but you can hear (behind the music) how he doesn’t just hold his throttle down, he keeps pressing it and letting go in fast succession while he keeps the wheel cranked to one side. Your front wheels are your control. Change the camber as well to the front wheels so when the front wheels are turned to one side, the tire that is closest to the side your turning towards will be flat on the ground giving you better grip to keep the car going in that direction. The same thing is for turning the opposite way.The Cherrier Vivace Gravel Rally drifts amazingly on all surfaces. Start by driving in a straight line and turning your wheels from side to side to try to get the car to lose traction. You can use the e-brake but I’ve learned with most cars you can initiate a drift simply by cranking the wheel to either side and accelerating.Once you’ve become good at keeping the car in control after forcing it lose traction practice holding the slide by keeping the car in either 2nd or 3rd gear as those are the gears that basically keep the cars tires spinning just enough to gain traction and slide at the same time.Once you’ve gotten comfortable with that, find a circle like on Grid-map or just a curved road and practice your throttle control. In BeamNG the throttle acts like an actual gas pedal in a vehicle. The harder you press it the harder the car accelerates. Learn to have throttle control by barely pushing the throttle button, learn to drive at smaller speeds using this method. Once you’ve gotten comfortable with this, start initiating a slide or forcing the car to lose traction and when it does, turn your wheel opposite to the direction you want to drift. Think about in the movie Cars when Doc Hudson tells Lightning McQueen to turn the opposite direction then where your car is heading and as that happens, you need to learn to counter-steer meaning you control the angle the car is sliding sideways at and while that’s happening you need to control the throttle as well. As your car slides sideways or near sideways, it will want to keep turning, that’s where you steering control comes in, what I do is I turn my wheel back and forth kinda fast to keep it going in the direction I want.I recommend starting on dirt roads. They provide a more slippery surface to allow the car to lose traction a lot easier and once you’ve gotten comfortable on dirt, move to tarmac or other harder surfaces.I’m not a pro drifter, I’ve just learned a thing or two over the course of my 2,000 hours.People need to understand drifting is more than just a sentence. There’s more that goes into it and telling someone to just learn throttle control is pointless as we all do this in real life when we drive, throttle control that is.If you need anymore help I can try my best. This isn’t easy to learn and will take some time but be patient and have fun with it. You will get it.If you can’t afford a controller, check with pawn shops or even thrift stores and make sure they work. Everyone deserves to be able to play with right tools.
