Overview
This guide will explain how to escape the community map named “Grounded” (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=590345486) by Heisenburg (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198075186244)! I take no credit in the creation of the map. I just wanted to make a guide stating how I escaped Grounded as it is tied for my favorite map on the steam workshop. Heisenburg, if you see this, thanks for creating a great map!
Things you will need to know
There are many ways to escape in grounded, some proving harder than others. My original plan was to keep chipping through and replacing the wall in your cell. I would then dig through the layer between the cell wall and the outside wall to get outside. Then, I would dig through the bushes and escape.
That was before I knew the patrol truck existed and found out about my plot.
So I scrambled around for options, when all of a sudden I thought of something else:
Prison Takeover.
This is the escape plan we will be using to escape in this guide.
You should note that because this is a community map, it does have flaws. In this case it is either a very well hid design for extra security or a flaw, but you will need to work around it either way.
What I’m talking about is the two front doors.
If you didn’t know, when you successfully perform a Prison Takeover, the front door is supposed to be opened for you to walk out.
However, there is a door that you will have to bypass before the front door, which will require multiple more steps. These steps may prove to be a challenge.
The plot I discuss in this guide will require more luck than skill.
If you are okay with all of this, try out this method.
If not, think up your own escape.
Things you will need to acquire
To perform a prison riot on Grounded, you need the following things. Everything but one is optional, however if you do not acquire the optional things, doing a prison riot will be EXTREMELY difficult.
Required:
Duct Tape
Optional (Highly Suggested):
A very high strength stat (at least up in the 90s)
Nunchucks (Crafted by combing 2 Timber + 1 Wire, requires 70 INT)
Padded Inmate (Crafted by combining 1 Inmate Outfit + 1 Sheet of Metal + 1 Duct Tape, requires 80 INT)
Optional (Not Necessary):
Healing Items (I.E. Medkit, Bottle of Medicine, etc.)
Followers (acquired by raising an inmate’s opinion to at least 80 and pressing Q on them)
I did not use anything not necessary while escaping, so you’ll manage, however it may be useful to get them.
You can also mix and match anything provided here as you would like but I can’t guarantee how well it will work. Everything here is what worked for me.
Tips and Tricks beforehand
Before you initiate the prison takeover, you should definitely save before the day you are going to pul it off, incase anything goes wrong.
If you’re trying to find a certain object but can’t get your hands on one, consider taking desparate measures and searching fellow inmate’s desks while no one is looking. It is best to do this in the early morning. If you don’t get the things you were looking for, revert back to when you woke up. I did this to get the sheet of metal and duct tape required to craft the Plated Inmate Outfit. While it was miserable, it was very satisfying and worth it once I finally got the components.
If you don’t want to be wearing your Plated Inmate Outfit all of the time, you can easily acquire another normal Inmate Outfit from the Laundry job which is given to you by default.
You may also want to keep the Laundry job as some of the components I suggested in the previous section can be bought off of other inmates, and the job will give you some money. You can get another job if you prefer that one.
If you want a lot of followers but want to get them without doing a bunch of tasks, try getting the Kitchen Job. Once you complete the quota, grab as much Cooked Food as you can and hand it out. Cooked Food raises an inmate’s opinion of you by 9 per each cooked food, very quickly and easily gaining you some new followers.
SUPER ULTRA MEGA HELPFUL TIP
If you are starting a new save on grounded or don’t mind starting over, you may be able to save yourself a lot of trial and error.
To access this trick, you will need to get to the point where you rename the inmates and guards of the prison when starting a new save.
If you find the fourth guard chronologically and rename them to a name that is memorable, this will help you very much once you are doing the prisoner takeover.
If you don’t do the tip above, you are going to need to attack the guards until you find out which one has the red key and remember that guard’s name for when the prison takeover is happening.
The Escape
Once you are sure you are ready to take on the task and have everything you need from the previous sections, it is time to send the prison into chaos!
You will need to start the plan right when you wake up. Get everything together. Put the duct tape and any other items you’re taking with you in your inventory. Make sure the Nunchucks and Plated Inmate Outfit are equipped, if you made them (if not, get ready for hell). Make sure any people with high opinions are following you, if you’d like. By the time all of this is prepped, it should be Morning Rollcall, and it should be Breakfast Fairly soon. Get ready to put the plan into motion.
The first thing you want to do is find the guard with the red key. Try to get him alone. When the other guards aren’t looking, knock him out, use the Duct Tape on him, and take his key.
You will then need to keep knocking guards out as best as you can. You will need to do this in a timely fashion, as you need at least four guards to be knocked out at the same time. If you brought any more duct tape with you, feel free to use it on knocked out guards.
Once you have knocked out at least four guards, you will get a letter from the Warden, stating the front door has been opened. This is where you should be happy you got the red key, because if you didn’t, you would not be able to walk out.
Now all you need to do is run. If there are guards behind you, disregard them. You just need to keep going in one direction and eventually you will go out of the map, and will have successfully escaped!
If a step went wrong in the process, feel free to revert back to your recent save and try again. If you decided you need more time for whatever you may need, you can take an extra day to prepare.
Conclusion
That is how to escape Grounded!
Hopefully all of the meticulous preparation has paid off with a satisfactory escape.
If you have never done a prison break using Nunchucks before, you have also gained the achievement ‘Way of the Dragon’!
Once you complete the process I explained in this guide, please do yourself a favor and play over Grounded again. It’s a very good map with a lot of options.
If you have any questions, find any flaws, or want to say anything else, leave whatever you have to say in the comments! I will take a look at your comment as soon as possible, and give you a reply.
Feedback is appreciated. I have created a few guides in the past and I enjoy writing them, so I want to know how I can improve mine.
Thank you for reading, and thank Heisenburg for creating Grounded!
