Overview
*IN PATCH #79, JUST STICK WITH CROWN OF GUNS FOR CHANCE OF SCREWDRIVER DROP FROM ENEMIES! CROWN OF RISK IS NOW WORTHLESS FOR GOLDEN WEAPON HUNTING, NO EXTRA CHEST! LARGE PORTIONS OF THE STEP-BY-STEP SECTION NO LONGER MATTER, UNLESS THEY HOPEFULLY CHANGE THEIR MINDS, SINCE THE NEW CROWN OF RISK IS TERRIBLE!**IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT PATCH #76 CHANGES ADDED AT THE START AND END OF THE STEP-BY-STEP SECTION!*With patch #75, there is more flexiblity than ever with Golden Weapons for the mutants, because now you can choose whether to start with their golden weapon pickup or the starting weapon, and you can replace the Golden Weapon mid-run without penalty (you can still choose to start with it on your next run).So if you want to get ahold of a nice Golden Weapon quickly and easily, this guide can explain how to get half of them pretty easily!
Golden Farming Steps
- IMPORTANT UPDATE #76 CHANGE! THE CROWN OF CHOICE HAS BECOME THE CROWN OF RISK! IT STILL HAS THE SAME EFFECT OF LETTING YOU RELOAD FOR A CHEST YOU WANT, AND ALSO CHANCE AT A 2ND GOLDEN CHEST, BUT THE CATCH IS YOU ARE LEFT WITH JUST ONE HP NOW FOR EACH LVL! THIS MAKES HEALTH CHESTS AND DROPS MORE COMMON, BUT ITS STILL VERY RISKY!
- So, if you want to play it safe, choose the Crown of Guns instead, and keep all your hp! You will have a decent chance of getting a screwdriver while going through stages the regular way, since all enemies will now have an 8% chance to drop a weapon, even on the first stage.
- If you want to do this faster though, and don’t mind the low hp, choose the Crown of Risk, this guarantees a chest-type appearing next you at start of lvl, and possibly two of same chest type within the level. It also gives a chance for a 2nd Golden Weapon chest later!
- Keep restarting 1_1 until you get a red weapon chest next to you, but not a cursed chest (which has a purple tint)! Feel free to roam around and check for the 2nd red chest that spawned, but its usually faster just restarting.
- Repeat until you get the Screwdriver. Each red chest on lvl 1_1 has a 1 in 9 chance to have the Screwdriver. Your chances for it to drop get worse in later levels.
- DO NOT KILL ENEMIES YET IN 1_1. If you absolutely must, only kill 3 or 4 tops, like scorpions in tight spaces, and those annoying Inter-Dimensional cops. Run around opening all other chests and rad canisters until Big Bandit appears.
- DO NOT KILL BIG BANDIT TOO FAST. This will unlock Oasis, which skips the level you want to go to! Ignore him for a little while and start killing other enemies first.
- Now even though you missed the chance at oasis, you get to skip 1_2 and 1_3, and go straight to Sewers.
- If you have or find Grenade Launcher or Bazooka, go ahead and open the manhole if you find it sooner than later, to get through Sewers faster. The secret Pizza Sewers is extremely short after all.
- Look for the red and gold car in 3_1 scrapyard. It seems like at least 1/3 of the time it spawns very near to you, so maybe you will be lucky. Otherwise just go through like you usually do until its found. Hit the red/gold car with the screwdriver, then the ‘X’ controller button (or ‘E’ on the keyboard) to access it and finish the lvl.
- If you are lucky, the Crown of Risk will have spawned a Golden Weapon Chest right next to you when you arrive, giving you 2 chances for the golden weapon you want!
- If you don’t get a chest next to you (or the weapon you want), rush through Y.V.’s Mansion, but be careful of those beefy blue missle guys though. Find that Golden Weapon Chest, and get the weapon inside! IF YOU PICKED UP 2, BE SURE THE ONE YOU WANT IS IN YOUR PRIMARY WEAPON SLOT!
- IMPORTANT UPDATE #76 CHANGE! YOU CAN NO LONGER UNLOCK GOLDEN WEAPONS BY DYING! YOU MUST SURVIVE, DEFEAT ALL THE ENEMIES IN Y.V.’S MANSION, AND GO THROUGH THE PORTAL!
- Now the golden weapon will be unlocked from the main menu, just click the weapon on the mutant you just played! It will only be unlocked for this one, so you must go through this whole process for each mutant you want to give a golden weapon! You can replace the golden weapon mid-run, and still choose between that and their starting weapon each time!
These are the Golden Weapons you can farm quickly with this method, and their traits that make them superior to the regular versions:
- Crossbow: faster weapon speed
- Grenade Launcher: grenades shoot further away
- Laser Pistol: faster weapon speed and better accuracy
- Machine Gun: better accuracy
- Shotgun: extra pellet per shot
- Wrench: faster weapon speed
More Details
The Other Golden Weapons
You can only access half the golden weapons quickly with this method. To get the others, you must beat the final boss and loop back to the beginning, they first start dropping from chests on your 2nd run through the 3rd desert lvl.
You could also visit Y.V.’s Mansion again after the game loop.
The ones you can’t farm and have to wait for looping after beating the throne are:
assault rifle, bazooka, plasma gun, screwdriver, slugger, splinter gun
Getting the Golden Screwdriver would make the first step for farming half the golden weapons MUCH faster, skipping the reloading for a regular screwdriver. I presume it works as well on the car as the regular one.
Golden Weapon Mutant Synergy
Certain weapons are worth trying to farm for though, depending on the mutant.
Golden Wrench is a direct upgrade for Chicken, for example (as much as she loves her sword).
It’s just as fast as her sword (unlike the regular wrench) and has roughly the same area of effect, but has +2 damage. That makes scorpions 2 hits instead of 3, rats 1 hit instead of 2, etc. 🙂
Golden Machinegun is good for Steroids because it has better accuracy than the regular one.
There are probably other good examples of ideal golden weapons per Mutant, too.
Golden Revolver?
The Golden Revolver is exclusive to Y.V., so only way for other mutants to get it is to play co-op with Y.V., let him die, and then steal the Golden Revolver that he dropped!
BUT, it might be available to drop from chests at the first loop lvl now, but I haven’t been able to confirm.
*EASY ACCESS TO TWO GOLDEN WEAPONS*
Try putting a Golden Weapon in the Crown Vault’s Proto Chest, so you can always have a spare to swap out whenever you visit Crown Vault, no matter which mutant you’re playing.
It might be a good idea to put the Golden Screwdriver in there, for example, so you can make it quick and easy for other mutants to farm weapons too.
