Overview
This is intended to be a comprehensive and straightforward guide with the aim of helping players find the right ghost. This guide explains how to find the right ghost and shows its strengths, weaknesses and behavior. This guide can also be used as a cheatsheet.
Update
- Changes for the Update 6. March 2021
Introduction
Since there is no guide yet, I thought this could be particularly good for beginners. Although this game is still in early access, a guide can be helpful. Because the game is updated regularly, many things can still change. I am happy to be informed about new things or mistakes. Also, all my statements are without guarantee.
Steps to take
1. Step: Finding the Ghost room๐
The first thing to do is to find the ghost room. Only in this room can evidence be collected. The ghost room can also be a corridor or hallway. It makes sense to use the surveillance cameras first, as a ghost orb may already be visible there. Then you have directly found the room and evidence.
You should listen for noises. The thermometer is also a good way to find the room. Temperatures below 10ยฐC are an indication of being in or near the ghost room. Temperatures below 5ยฐC are an indication of the right room. At the same time, you are already looking for the first piece of evidence: Freezing Temperature. It is also possible to detect subzero temperatures without a thermometer. All you have to do is watch out for the steam when you exhale. You can also look out for doors opened by the ghost. Sometimes they can also distract from the right room.
2. Step: Finding Evidence๐ต
As a next step, further evidence should be searched for to identify the ghost for sure.
Place a Book, EMF and Camera inside. Also talk to the Ghost with the Spirit Box. Also Check for Ghost Orbs on the monitor inside the Van. If you play with several people, you can multitask. In the following section, the table shows the characteristics. Take care of your sanity and take pills if necessary.
3. Step: Escape๐
When you have found all 3 pieces of evidence you can run away or do the remaining tasks.
If not enough evidence is found, one can either make a good guess with the evidence already found or look for character traits of the ghosts. Certain ghosts have a special behaviour that can give them away.
Evidence
The best way to identify the ghost is to collect evidence.
There are 6 pieces of evidence in the game that can be used to identify a ghost:
- ๐ฅถFreezing Temperature (Thermometer)
- ๐ฅEMF Level 5 (EMF Reader)
- โจGhost Orb (Video Camera)
- ๐ Spirit Box (Radio)
- ๐ฎ Ghost Writing (Book)
- ๐๏ธ Fingerprints (UV Flashlight or Glowstick)
How to use the Equipment to find Evidence
The themometer measures the ambient temperature. It is updated every 2 seconds. The measured temperature fluctuates by 7ยฐC.
(Professional Difficulty Only: At the beginning of a round, the breaker is off and thus the temperature in the whole house is low. As soon as it is switched on again, the temperature of all rooms except the ghost room rises. It takes about 2 minutes for the temperature to rise to normal.)
If the breaker is on, temperatures below 10ยฐC are an indication that you are in or near the ghost room.
Temperatures below 3ยฐC are evidence of freezing temperatures. If you see a 2.9ยฐC, the temperature will go below 0ยฐC.
An EMF reader measures the electromagnetic fields when the ghost interacts with something.
An EMF level 5 during a hunt is not considered evidence.
The camera is used to find the ghost orbs. To do this, place the camera switched on in the ghost room. The lights should all be off. In the van you can then search for a small sphere (ghost orb) in night vision mode. Ghost orbs look like a firefly and appear every few seconds as you cross the screen.
With the Spirit Box, some spirits can respond. A few things have to be done for this:
- You must be inside of the Ghostroom or close to the ghost (3 meter)
- The lights in the room must be off. Flashlights or UV Lights can be left on.
- Shy spirits only react when you are alone. Note the whiteboard in the van for this information.
You can ask the Ghost using the local voice button: “Where are you?” ; “Anybody here?” ; “How old are you?” …..
The game says “Nothing Detected” when it has detected your phrase. However, the ghost does not have to react to it. Once it has reacted to it, it counts as evidence.
Just put it in the ghost room. May take a while. When the book is written, another proof is provided.
A ghost can leave behind Fingerprints on doors, windows and light switches. If so, you got another evidence.
Without UV Flashlight: If you take a picture of a door touched by a ghost with the photo camera, you may be lucky and see in the journal if any fingerprints have been found.
Identifying Traits of Ghosts
Sometimes it can be difficult to collect all the evidence. Then the behaviour of the ghosts could be another clue.
- Drain sanity 2x faster than other ghosts when they are looked upon.
- Taking a photo of a Phantom will make it temporarily disappear. Be careful it wont stop a hunt!
- During a hunt, a phantom will flash visible every 1 to 2 seconds as opposed to every 0.3 to 1 seconds for other Ghosts.
- If a Hunt starts very soon after the Setup Phase has finished and at a time when all players have high Sanity, then this may indicate a Banshee.
- A Mare often turn lights and breaker off. It rarely turns lights and breaker on.
- A Mare attacks earlier when the light in the ghost room is off.
- When a yurei is visible, the sanity drops twice as fast as with another beast.
- A Demon hunts earlier then other ghosts.
- Using a Ouija board successfully doesn’t drop your sanity.
- Footstep walking sounds from a Wraith are rare to non-existent.
- Heavy toxic reaction when touching salt.
- A Jinn tend to interact with electronics (e.g. phones, radios, light switches, TVs, car alarms) more frequently than any other ghost.
- Being within 3 meters of a Jinn can instantly decrease your Sanity by 25%.
- A Shade is shy in presence of mulitple players.
- Oni are more active when people are nearby. They are more likely than other ghosts to move objects at great speed.
- Is a lot faster during a hunt then the player.
- If fingerprints and ghost orbs are present, it must be a poltergeist. It is not necessary to find the last piece of evidence.
- Poltergeist tend to interact with objects much more frequently than other ghosts. They also can move multiple objects at once, which will decrease a player’s Sanity when witnessed (the decrease is by twice the number of objects moved). Is very inactive when there is nothing to throw in the room.
- If you use smudge sticks, the Spirit will not be able to hunt for 180 (normal 90) seconds.
- A Hantu moves faster in colder rooms.
- Talking increases the likelihood of a hunt
- Can hunt from a sanity value of 80%.
- The Yokai can’t hear very far.
Note
- The appearance, name and gender of the ghost is random and does not say anything about its type.
Conclusion
I hope the guide was helpful and helped you to find ghosts faster and more accurately. Please rate the guide and leave some feedback. I try to update it. Happy Hunt
