Overview
If you’re playing Sacred Gold on a widescreen monitor, or any monitor that is not 1024×768, you’ve probably noticed some distortion. This is because the game was developed to use only one resolution: 1024×768. Any other resolution will cause the game to stretch to fit the screen unless you have the appropriate settings. This guide will help you set these settings if you are running on an NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU).
Step 0: The Problem
Before changing any settings, this is how the title screen will look at 1600×900.
Step 1: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel
Go to the Start menu and type “NVIDIA”. Find the NVIDIA Control Panel and open it.
Step 2: Go to “Adjust desktop size and position”
Once you have opened the NVIDIA Control Panel, look under the “Display” section and select “Adjust desktop size and position”.
Step 3: Select “Aspect ratio”
Under “Select a scaling mode”, select “Aspect ratio” if it is not already selected.
Step 4: Change “Display” to “GPU”
Under “Perform scaling on”, select “GPU” from the dropdown list.
Step 5: Apply your changes
After all your changes have been made, select “Apply” at the bottom-right of the screen to apply them.
Step 6: Keep your changes
Be sure to keep the changes you made to the settings!
Step 7: Start the game
After applying your changes, close the NVIDIA Control Panel and start Sacred Gold. The game resolution will automatically resort to its original 1024×768. The rest of the screen will be covered by a black background. Enjoy!
Note: Overriding the scaling mode [OPTIONAL]
Note that the option to “Override the scaling mode set by games and programs” does not appear to affect the game. It is entirely optional, though it may prove useful when dealing with other games and programs.
