How to form the Soviet Union in the Kaiserreich mod for HOI4

In the guide, I will show you how to form the USSR in Kaiserreich. Thankfully, the developers have added a way to play the revolutionary USSR instead of an instant annexation of Russia. They also removed the peaceful route, so you must fight a revolutionary war to win.

Step One: After Kerensky
Kerensky will be assassinated, and you will choose another form of government. Choose “The Menshiviks and Socialists agree to an coalition of the plural left.”. Russia will not be socialist for very long.
You are trying to get a “Revolution” event.
Step Two: Appointing a President
You will get an event asking who to appoint as president. Choose “Aleksandr Shlyapnikov forms a popular front of all socialist parties!”. Do not choose any of the other moderates, or the revolution will not fire.
Step Three: The Anti-Socialist Coup
Very soon after, you will get an event called the “Anti-Socialist Coup”. Many former White Russian officers form a coup against your incredibly unpopular president who failed to rally his own party. This coup causes a radicalisation of ideologies in Russia, where liberals and leftists flock to the radical left, while conservatives and right-wing nationalists flock to the radical right.
Here, it does not matter who you pick, there will be an eventual counter-revolution. Pick whoever you want to fight against as the Soviets. After picking any option, go on 3 or 4 speed so you can pause as soon as the Soviets spawn, or the AI could mess your new nation up.
Step Four: The 2nd Russian Revolution
You will shortly get a “Revolution!” event. Obviously you will want to choose “Play as the Russian Socialist Republic”.
The revolutionary war will be easy as long as you pull of encirclements and be smart about attacking.
Advice
I have played the Soviet Union many times in Kaiserreich and have found it very fun. These are my recommendations for the decisions during the early days. Thankfully, the developers have truly updated the Soviet focus tree and left me unsure of good routes.
– The Second International Congress – I recommend attending, as not attending would cause a massive downfall in stability.
– The Church – Select “Leave the Church alone, a secular state will do”. The church will occasionally criticise you, but the lost stability will be balanced out by the random “Masses for the Motherland” and “New Collective Formed” events.
