How to abuse the multiplier system to get high combat scores.
The Method to the Batness
The developers did a great job making sure that you are rewarded for varying your combat style. However, beat downs have the unique ability to raise you multiplier 2-10 points for a single opponent. I found this trick very helpful while getting all the achievements. The method works best with Batman, but can be used with all characters. All you have to do is perform a beat down on every opponent. My preferred method is to start with beatdowns and while doing this perform disarm/destroy until all threatening are destroyed. After achieving this I like to not perform any special moves as the slow motion helps you counter all incoming attacks. One final note is that you have to deliver one hit to your beatdown target in between every counter as otherwise he will become unstunned. I hope this saves your butt in as many challenge maps as it did mine.
