Overview
Hey there! This guide will show you how to get the Friendly Fire achievement for Crypt of the Necrodancer.[This guide is meant to assist intermediate/advanced players. You must have a good sense of the properties of various Rings, enemies (particularly Dragons), and mechanics of the game for this guide to help you]
The Seed
To get the achievement, I used the seed “Red Dragon” with solo Cadence.
Preparing
When you start the dungeon, this is what you should see.
Approach the room at your lower right, then dig down. You should see some spooky skeltals. Kill them, then move down and dig to the left and down. You should find a black chest that contains a titanium whip. Don’t use your bomb. (Warning: At this time the miniboss (a minotaur) might pop out behind a wall and chase you.) You can kill him with the whip)
Then, you should go back to where you spawned and go to the upper right room.
You will see some monsters, a crate, a cracked dirt wall, and a shopkeeper door. Kill the monsters, ignore the crate, and shovel the dirt wall. It will reveal a travel rune. Don’t enter the room yet– instead, enter the shopkeeper’s room and buy the Fear scroll.
Then, you can step on the travel rune, taking you to a shrine shop.
Getting The Achievement
Go to block directly behind all of the shrines and in front of the shopkeeper.
Plant a bomb and move to the upper right corner of the shop. When the bomb explodes, three dragons will spawn close to you. You absolutely MUST use the fear scroll as soon as the dragons spawn, or else you will be insta-killed.
Using the fear scroll will make all the dragons run away from you. Use the whip to kill either the green or blue dragon, but NOT the red one. (I prefer to kill the blue one, since the green one can’t freeze you.)
Once you have killed your dragon of choice, align the red dragon with the remaining dragon by a) dodging around, avoiding the red dragon’s fire, until you get lucky OR b) getting the red dragon to either the upper or lower wall and triggering its fire until the other dragon reaches you. Doing this with the whip is aggravating because you could accidentally kill 2 dragons instead of one. However, with a little luck you can manage to kill the dragons in around 2 or 3 attempts.
Tips
1) You can purchase the armor in the shopkeeper’s shop for 150 coins if you go through the level and take the time to kill more monsters.
2) When the bomb explodes, the shrines will drop 3 items: a Ring of Regeneration (Heal +1 upon beginning a new floor), a Ring of War (+1 damage, more enemies) and the Karate Gi armor (Double damage taken and dealt). I recommend not taking the Karate Gi, but either of the rings is fine. Note: Taking the Ring of War can make it easier to accidentally kill enemies.
