How to Increase your FPS in SFM

Overview

In this guide, I will teach you a way to increase your FPS. That’s it.

Actually doing it

Yeh yeh yeh, introductions are boring, yadda yadda yadda

Load a map

I’ve chosen 2fort

Turn off lighting

Right-click in the viewport and untick “Enable Lighting”

Then you will see your viewport has turned ugly.
don’t worry, this should happen. move your camera around and see how your FPS has improved. pretty neat, huh? let’s make it better.

Turning off Progressive Refinement and AO

Just right-click in the viewport again, and click “Render Settings”

Then untick the highlighted boxes, and click “Ok”.

AND TAH DAH! Your FPS should be much better!

Please note that when lighting a scene, enable the Lighting (duh), but nothing else until your final render. Progressive Refinement also might help when lighting.
