Overview
This is a general list of tips and tricks for downloading mods for Payday 2. This will go over both types of modding, and how to do both with relative ease.
Downloading the essentials.
First thing’s first. If you’re going to mod your game, you need to know what you’re doing. That’s what this guide is here for, but you’re also going to need some pre-requisites that are essential.
Since Steam is a little doodoo, I can’t provide links. I can, however, provide you with the base prerequisites you need to start modding.
Starting off, you’re going to need to get something called SuperBLT and Beardlib. They’re not mods, at least, not wholly, but instead they’re an over-arching base for a whole array of mods that allow a bunch of stuff to function. (Think of it like Skyrim Script Extender, or something similar).
Beardlib is simple enough, but SuperBLT is a bit more complicated. Sort of.
–First–
Assuming you downloaded SuperBLT, you need to put the file labeled as “WSOCK32.dll” inside of your Payday 2 Folder. If you don’t know how to access your Payday 2 Folder, First you need to right-click Payday 2 on the launcher. Then click the “Properties” Tab, and from there you find the “Browse Local FIles” button in one of the sub-categories.
Once that’s done, you need to take out the IPHLPAPI.dll file that is in your Payday 2 Folder by default. From there, you simply need to make a folder called “mods” in your Payday 2 Folder, and then start the game.
It should open a cmd prompt that installs a “Base” into the Mods folder. With that done, you’re already 1/2 of the way done with most of the basic process.
Next, open the “assets” folder in your Payday 2 Directory, then make a new folder called “mod_overrides”.
Once you do that, you’re done with that part as well.
—IMPORTANT INFORMATION:—
Use the “mods” folder for script-related stuff. Huds, Damage Number Scripts, Healthbars, Custom Icons… Trainers, ETC. That’s where that stuff goes.
Use the “mod_overrides” folder for cosmetics, custom heists, armor mods, custom masks, etc. That’s for actual modded content.
Phase Two:
Downloading your mods. That’s, uh, rough. Just kidding! It’s not!
Find a legitimate website, like modworkshop or something. Download your mods.
If it’s a hud, or something like that, put it into “Mods”
If it’s a model or custom content, Put it in “mod_overrides”
Simple enough, Right?
In all honesty, I made this guide so I can remember how to do this ♥♥♥♥ myself if I ever need to again. Thanks for reading, Hope this helps.
