Total War: MEDIEVAL II – Definitive Edition Guide

How to Install "The Elder Scrolls" total war mod. for Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

How to Install “The Elder Scrolls” total war mod.

Overview

A quick guide explanation on how to install the Elder_Scrolls mod into the Medieval:total war 2 kingdoms expansion to get it to work. I will try to explain to best my knowledge on how to assist you on your endevour to get the mod to work so you can enjoy the mod if you have little experience with mod’s and have never modded Medieval 2 Kingdoms, or just found it somewhat confusing like me.I never did find a skyrim mod help and the only real information on the web is a youtube guide which is confusing to say the least and I’m here to simplify it.

Where to find the mod.

the mod can be found on site’s like “Moddb” and (i think it’s called) “Gamefront”, just type in “The Elder Scrolls Mod-medieval 2:kingdoms” and it should have a mod for the kingdoms expansion in the search with a list of site’s, i prefer Moddb but you can pick your respective mod-site preference if you’v gotten mod’s from them before.

The mod requires the “Kingdoms” expansion. Without it, you sadly cannot use the mod since it lacks the resources/assets and so you cannot play the mod, same for many others like “The Third Age”

Link to total war center if you have any issues, which I cannot help with.

The Mod and installation.

the mod itself is in russian but don’t worry, the mod has a patch that translate’s your entire game into english so that you can understand it correctly. If you watch the starting cinematic, don’t worry about the first Russian sentence, that’s just leftover work I assume
the mod has a sort of 2 parts, it has “TES TW V1.0-FULL” and their “The Elder Scrolls: TW- PATCH V 1.2” which can be found here on ModDB;

download the mod and it’s patch, then you take the patch that is up to date by the time of typing this and place it into your elder_scrolls folder and overwrite, the overwrite will replace the data with your patch’s data and it should have folder’s like this.

Cameras
custom
data
packs
preferences
replays
saves
launcher
TESTW Launcher

The Finishing Touchs.

So you’v installed the mod and you have the folder all correct, your patch has corrected the data that required the patch and now you will want want to get the mod running.

A quick note, if you have the steam version, it’s in your Steam-Steamapps with all your other steam games, you’l find medieval: total war 2 there
if your on the Disc version, it will/should be in “SEGA” as the default location of Medieval: Total war 2.

in medieval total war 2, there’s the file “mods” with all your kingdoms expansions, teutonic, americas, britanic, crusades, the normal expansion, what you have to do here is quite simple, pick any of the campaigns and rename it,

Example;
I renamed “teutonic” to “teutonic-Real” and with my skyrim folder in the mod file I Renamed “The_Elder_Scrolls” to “teutonic”. this has to do with the steam launcher since a steam launch prompts the box with “medieval total war 2” and below it, “medieval total war 2: america’s/teutonic”, etc. This is due to the fact that you cannot launch the mod without it being named an expansion,.

for reference my medieval II total war > mods has it set up like so:
americas
british_isles
crusades
teutonic
teutonic-real

my teutonic is my skyrim mod, teutonic real is the original teutonic campaign i renamed.

what you should know about the mod.

To be perfectly honest some factions feel like they are at a disadvantage. The Khajiit is divided into “The Kingdom of Pallenetine” and “The Kingdom of Annequina” and suffer from a rather bad unit roster where as nations like “Tamerial Empire” have a diverse roster of units, forcing some nations to spam their best units which are often basic infantry to the enemy and overwhelm them in tactical and strategic manuever’s.

lore event’s can happen, the Oblivion crisis can happen, but due to the way the game is made you can make friends with the obvlivion hordes, which I find rather funny.

The voices are all vanilla due to the dev team, hard-coding and such. So Khajiit are re-skinned islamic forces, the tamerial empire are a germanic(i forgot) nation, the obvlivion hordes are the holy roman empire, etc.

12 turns for 1 year is the game’s turn rate compared to the rather rapid vanilla time frame causing your game to speed by as if it was only 10 minute’s of war and death.

due to the time frame I believe the ageing is either slower or is less obvious as my family tree at the time for my Khajiti had about probably 20 family members and not one has passed away yet.

Some units are set as “Unlocalized unit” or such as they have not been correctly modded or are to be modded in the future…

Don’t mess with aldmeri justicars and their magic, they are powerful as all heck.

If you zoom in on the campaign map the territories will not line up correctly with the zoomed in frame, this is due to how the game does not recognise the map is modded and the proportions are different.

Please feel free to ask questions if you’re a little confused, which I apologise for and will try to help or find help, i’m not a master at this unfortunatly.

To-Do list and a general update log for people.

This is just a little menu of updates and when they happened. My way of telling you guys when this was last updated and whether the information is still valid.

To-Do;
Re-install the mod to ensure nothing has changed in the following months.
Test the entire thing and see if the guide needs updating if there are changes.

Update log;
03/02/17 (been awhile…)
Further corrected poor grammer and typos.
Re-installed the mod recently and found it to be somewhat updated, but not too much I feel.
Added some images as example in hopes of substituting my poor explanation skills.

30/07/16
Corrected some typo’s, edited some text, tried to make it more clear and precise in some explanations.
Added this update log of course 🙂

Note: The dating is in UK terms, not US. So it goes Day-Month-Year, rather than Month-Day-Year for those in the US and other countries.
