Overview
The non-comprehensive guide to get the Steam Version to work. Or, you know, use the Nexon Launcher.
Steam’s Vindictus is unstable
Yes, it is. I can’t get the Steam Version to work, myself. I start up the game, wait ten minutes for it to load, and then it immediately crashes with an error box of nothing but question marks. Which is total BS.
Steam has some offers of sale items that require you to log into the game through them, and select a character to play, which drops the sale item automagically into their inventory. But that does you no good if you can’t play the damn game.
So, what do you do…?
Option 1: Play through Nexon instead of Steam
Nexon has created the Nexon Launcher program, which does a pretty good job of keeping their games up to date and fast to launch. You can get the Launcher from the Nexon website, or from the Vindictus web site.
The Launcher also has a fast log in option, meaning you don’t have to enter your primary password every time you want to play the game. Which is nice for long term players.
Oh, but you want those Steam Specials, huh? In that case, let’s try something else…
Option 2: Patch the Steam Version Manually
I take no credit for this tip. Someone in the forums wrote it out and it’s such a bit of universally helpful knowledge that I’m writing this guide, because it NEEDS to be universally accessable.
Kainen:
DL the game from the website, (The Vindictus website) after about 5 -10 mins of Download stop the download and copy over the contents from the there to your steam folder. Now you have a working game. For some reason the steam version is missing crucial launcer files that even if you verify it will not download.
Steam has a really crappy track record for identifying games that are broken, and then notifying the 3rd party about said broken game. They will continue to sell the game, but won’t lift a finger to make it work. I use to be able to PLAY Vindictus through Steam, but one day an update destroyed my Steam capable copy. So, if your Steam version is not working, you’ll have to mod it yourself to do so, or go to the Nexon version, which DOES work.
Specific Problem: Script Error
Can’t enter the game anymore! “Script Error”!
Okay, so I haven’t played Vindictus for about two or three weeks, and now me and my friend are trying to play. Whenever I launch the game, I get a script error and can’t log in.
The entirety of what’s written on the error is as follows:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 795
Char: 5
Error: ‘ApiErrorHandler’ is undefined
Code: 0
URL: res://C:Steam games storageSteam official storage/steamapps/common/Vindictus/en-US/nxstvs.dll/104
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
[Yes/No]
And regardless of which ones I pick, after I click yes or no the third time the window has appeared, I get another box saying:
vslauncher
Application exception has been occurred.
This application will be terminated.
So, uh… if anyone can help me out with this, let me know. I really want to get back into the game, and use my arrow trap to wipe out another horde of weak baddies. <.<;

It has to do with Internet Explorer. It needs to have been started and configured (on first start up). After that, you have to make sure that, in Internet Options, in the Security tab, the internet security level is not set to High, but to something lower. (It is what caused the script error for me). Setting everything else to Protected Mode and to highest security (also blocking cookies and auto-deleting history on exit) work fine with Vindictus, too.
Cheers!

I had the same problem. My issue was with Norton antivirus/firewall/360. I’ve had friends have no problem with Norton and running the game, but for reason my Norton was corrupted. I uninstalled my antivirus/firewall and it fixed it no problem.
Have more tips?
Let me know how you got your Vindictus game working through Steam in the comments section and I’ll add that information to the guide. After all, there are a LOT of ways a game can stop functioning. And I have a feeling this guide will only grow over time.
