Overview
This is a very short, and basic guide to help you to play with friends! I will answer all questions people may have about there own router, but for myself, I have a NetGear router. All the steps are about the same for each individual router.
Logging into your router
Hey there! Thanks for choosing my guide to help you with questions on how to play CodeName cure with friends, or to host a public server for randoms to join. Lets begin!
The first step into Port Forwarding is to login into your router.
You can do this by going into any current browser ( Chrome, FireFox,Safari ) and typing this into the web address
{LINK REMOVED}routerlogin.com/start.htm
Once thats dones, a popup window from your browser should look like this
If you dont know the username and password to your router dont worry!
The default username and password for routers is normally
Username: admin
Passsword: password
If your not entirely sure, look on the bottom of you router, it will have the factory defaults set up for it. For some routers, this can be a series of numbers and digits, so its always safe to look there first.
Now just hit ok/login and it will bring you to the next page!
You are now successfuly logged into your router! Be careful if you choose to wander, as some settings you change could mess everything up!
Accessing the advanced settings
All routers are different for the first page after login. But they will all have some sort of menu with alot of options on either the left, or the right. For my NetGear router, its on the left!
Look for these tabs
Now click Advanced
In this new set of options, look for
Click it and a drop down menu will look like this
I highlighted what you will need to click in order to get into the port forwarding page.
Like I said, all routers are different. But most of them will have these same exact steps, they might just look different!
Opening the right ports
Congrats! Youve made it to the Port Forwarding/Triggering page!
You should be at a page that looks something like this
If you dont have any ports opened, this page should be empty
Now, look for a set of options or buttons like these
Click the Add Custom Service
Once clicked, a page should open up that looks like this!
There are alot of options here! You should have them set up as follows
YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE PORT FROM 27015 THEY MUST STAY THE SAME FOR ENDING AND STARTING, ANYTHING BUT 27015 WILL NOT WORK
As the internal IP, you want to choose the pc you are currently on for that option! Some routers have it differently. But most of them have it set up the same way
Once all these options are completed, go ahead and name the service, and click apply!
How people can connect to your server
Alright, your all set up on your end, but how will they connect to you? Simple! There are two ways you can do this.
First way:
Create the server and make it have a password, so when someone wants to join your server, they will need to insert your password before connecting.
The password can be anything, from CURE to POISON, its all up to you
Second Way:
The second, more direct way for friends to connect to your game is by directly connecting to it from the console.
They will need to do as follows
- Open the devoloper console by pressing “~”
- Type connect YOUR PUBLIC IP ADDRESS 27015
- Enter or submit
Now they should be connecting to your server. If you have a password set up for it, then they will still need to enter the password.
Connect issues the console to tell itself that your attempting to connect to a specific server
Your public IP address can be found simply by typing in google “My Public IP” and google will give it to you in the search contents!
27015 is the port that is required to be opened by all servers that wish to play any source games, some source games have it differently, but most are 27015
Your all set up! Have fun!
I hope my guide has helped you, if you feel like it. Go ahead and +rep on my steam account, and look at my other guides! It takes alot of time to do these, so take 10 seconds of your time to +rep me 🙂
