Disclaimer

Most current multiplayer games feature a mute option. Despite being a great game, Left 4 Dead unfortunately does not feature such an option. Sometimes we have other option besides playing with someone who likes to scream at their microphone, or someone who likes to share the music they are listening to to everyone on the match, because they never turn their microphone off.

In this simple guide, I will show you how to deactivate the sound of other people’s microphones (in other words, how to mute voice chat), at the expense of you not being able to use the microphone yourself.

In other words: you won’t hear others, and the others won’t hear you. Please consider this while using this guide.

At the end of the guide, I also wrote a section on how to avoid people who tend to misbehave with their microphone.

Also, I hear there are some differences between muting people in Left 4 Dead and muting people in Left 4 Dead 2. These differences were considered in this guide, and I only mention commands that work in the first game, because this guide is for the first game. If I ever make a guide like this for Left 4 Dead 2, then I will make a different one.
