Overview
In this guide I’ll be teaching you how to not be ♥♥♥♥ at brawlhalla! I have 1000 hours in brawlhalla and I’m still pretty ♥♥♥♥, I’ll be teaching you how to be good, which I am not. This guide is aimed at relatively new players that want to get better, from 0-300 hours, but if you’re over that you might find some new tips here too!
The Basics
Pick your controlling device.
Do you want to play on keyboard/mouse, keyboard or controller? I have played on all and here’s what I think.
Controller is easiest to learn in my opinion, but if you haven’t mastered it missed inputs are more frequent. Also if you’ve never played games on controller before I don’t recommend it.
Keyboard or keyboard/mouse.
Keyboard is harder to learn in my opinion, but once you get good and learn a few combos on keyboard harder inputs (like gauntlets dlight nair) are easier to master than on controller.
The main factor in your choice to play what you want to play should be what you’re most comfortable with. Pick what you’re most comfortable with and don’t swap, as all options are equally viable.
If you really want to get better, you’ll have to play ranked.
I am aware that it’s stressful for some people, but ranked is a MUST if you want to get better fast.
Ranked will allow you to get matched against opponents that are around your skill level and will teach you how to deal with playstyles you suck against at first, cause you will suck in your first couple hundred hours, but thats what this guide is for.
Suddenly switching to controller/keyboard on and off again, will not improve your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It might give you a temporary mood boost because you think you’re doing better but won’t help in the long run.
Movement
In brawlhalla, movement is key.
Your ideal movement would be unpredictable and get you where you want without getting hit, but this is very hard to achieve. I’m going to discuss a couple of ways to improve your probably ♥♥♥♥ movement.
Be unpredictable.
That doesn’t mean just spamming random movement keys, unpredictability is a hard thing to master.
The MOST important thing is to mix up your dodges. If you do not do this you will get destroyed at higher levels because using the same dodge will mean getting read over and over and over again. Also try to never dodge inwards, as that is by far the easiest to read. Diagonal dodges are usually hard to read but solely dodging diagonal will cause a certain amount of predictability too. So just mix it up!
Being unpredictable also means switching up the offensive/defensive from time to time. If you move only to attack, at higher levels your opponent will adapt by using backdashes or any other form of movement/wakeup to punish you. Same with defending. If you only play passive all the time your opponent will find ways to force you into uncomfortable positions, so attack now and then and to hold your ground!
Of course don’t force yourself to play in a way that you’re not comfortable with unless you want to.
In brawlhalla, you’ll basically always want to have control over the main stage. I’m too dumb to explain how this works in the details, but just try to keep this in your mind when playing. Wallcamping won’t work against your opponent unless its one of the things theyre unexperienced against (more common at lower levels) and you can punish them for their mistakes.
Also, learn to implement dashes into your gameplay or something idk
Attacks
Learn combos. Learn reads. Try new combos. Try new reads. Main a character or a weapon to get good at it. Maybe learn some other weapons to improve your defenses if youre bored. Eventually learn harder inputs with more combo potential and completely fail at them in game and then try again.
Watching combo videos or making your combos in training and then trying them out in real matches helps you realize how much more difficult some are against a human player.
Really try to have a diverse set of combos and not try to use the same one over and over (unless it keeps working on your opponent idk).
Conclusion
Idk read the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guide im not gonna make a summary
