Overview
Basic survival tips, focused on ranked 1v1.
How to not lose at Chaos
- Bolts will kill you. (Bolt range: 3 hexes)
- Blobs might kill you. (effective Blob range: 4 hexes)
- Always assume you opponent has Bolt and Blob in his hand, unless he already cast 2 (or 3, if he has the relevant spell binding talisman)
- Mana sprites are not worth risking your life over
- Board control is key
- Going first is always better than going second, don’t get fooled by that 12 mana starting bonus for the second player
- Know your equipment
- Know your opponent’s equipment, review the info screen at the start of ever match
- Know all spells intimately, if you’re new to the game, read the info screens for all spells and summons
- Don’t take any unnecessary risks
- Don’t give up the initiative
- Don’t give up the territory
- Always cast at least one illusion in a match, preferrably more
- Always try to disbelieve something, the earlier the better, you will eventually run into someone who will use only illusions in a match
- Don’t count on growths to protect you, they are very vulnerable to magic attacks
- Don’t assume even a 99% cast will work
- If your live depends on it, always boost a spell
- If you can get a kill given a successful cast, always boost it
- If you have a shot at the wizard or his mount with one of your creatures (almost) always take it
- If you can bolt an unmounted wizard, who doesn’t have Faountain of Life or adjacent Pegasus, (almost) always bolt
- If an enemy creature is in range of your wizard’s melee or ranged attack, without the wizard having to move, always strike with your wizard first, for a chance to get double kill mana
- Don’t get discouraged by unlucky rolls
