Overview
Hello everyone, today i’m here to guide you on how to play Dead Island in “Windowed Mode”Simply follow the steps below & you should be on your way.
First, locate your preferred Dead Island file in the documents of your PC.
Choose the directory of your preferred Dead Island version.
Dead Island: Original Edition – C:UsersuserDocumentsDeadIsland
Dead Island: Definitive Edition – C:UsersuserDocumentsDeadIslandDE
Once you found the directory to the documents, folders you’re looking for should look like this.
Open the preferred Dead Island folder.
Both will contain the same “Settings” folder that you’ll be getting into.
Boot up notepad & direct yourself to the settings folder you just opened.
Click on “File” in Notepad & select “Open”
Then change the drop-down settings to “All Files (*.*)”
Open “video.scr” in Notepad.
After that, open up “video.scr” through the notepad & you will be shown a lot of settings that you can mess around with, now the reason why you’re here is because you want to run the game in windowed mode.. but you’re confused as to why there isn’t a “Windowed” command in the notepad.
That’s because they never originally added “Windowed” mode to the final code of the game so it never got saved into the set of settings that you can change.
What you want to do now is simply add in the command “!Windowed (i)” into the notepad.
You can add it anywhere you want, like shown below.
Now all you have to do is save & exit.
Once you done all of that, you should be able to switch between “Fullscreen” & “Windowed”
Instead of “Fullscreen” & “Borderless Fullscreen”
If you open the video settings in the “Notepad” once more & you see that the commands for “Windowed Mode” is missing, don’t panic!
I’ve stated this before that the final code of the game never had “Windowed Mode” as an option, but the client can run the command so long as you manually enabled it yourself by adding the command into the settings file, once you done that you don’t have to ever do it again.
Every time you start up the game from now on, it should normally run in windowed mode.
Unless you changed it to Fullscreen.
Now you might be asking why does it work like that, it’s because what you’re doing is simply changing the screen settings of the client!
Congratulations!
