Overview
Unreal 2 had an expansion pack that added multiplayer to the game that was not included in the Steam release. Here’s how to play the community version.
Introduction
Unreal 2: The Awakening originally shipped without multiplayer. This is the version that exists on Steam now. However the game did get an expansion pack a year after release that included multiplayer. This version originally required the original game disk, however there is now a community based version that works for the Steam release.

Installation
Open the .exe and select “Complete Install”. Then pick a place to install XMP. I’d suggest your Unreal 2 folder that’s commonly found in. This is where I installed it.

Conclusion
This guide is mostly written for fans of this game who want to try out the multiplayer in some manner. And for historical purposes so people in the future can see how the multiplayer to Unreal 2 functioned.
There aren’t very many people playing the multiplayer for this game anymore. But if you’re particularly curious you can most likely get a few friends together to try and play it.
Alternatively there is a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 called UTXMP which turns Unreal Tournament 2004 into Unreal 2’s multiplayer. So you can also try that out.
