How to play "nade pong" for Cobalt

How to play “nade pong”

Overview

Learn how to waste time like a professional with this great pickup game for clan match preparations (or when you’re just waiting for some friends to come online.)

Setup

I recommend dedicating Customized C or similar to this mode. The basic setup is simple:

  • Mode: Deathmatch
  • Map: Dojo
  • Character: Grenade Monk
  • Score Limit: No Limit
  • Teams: Free for all
  • Music: Sneak (this is essential!)
  • All other spawns set to none.

Guidelines

‘And thirdly, the code is more what you’d call “guidelines” than actual rules.’ – Barbossa

There aren’t any rules to nade pong, only those that are created naturally by the players. This is typically how we play it though:

Two players stand either end of the room in the middle of Dojo.

One player throws a grenade towards the other, who will hit it back with their stick. Players bounce the grenade between them until one dies or the grenade explodes.

And here are some natural “rules” that we developed over time:

  • A queue is formed behind each player by the players who respawned.
  • If the grenade leaves the room, throw another one.
  • If you let a grenade pass behind you, you deserve to be destroyed.
  • The grenade is never out of play, other players may hit it back into the arena.
  • If a player deserves it, you may hit him during his round so he dies to the grenade.
  • When it feels necessary, throw extra grenades into the room.
  • If you are out of grenades, hold duck to show you do not plan to throw.
  • When a round is over, live grenades carry over to the next round.
  • You don’t have to wait for an opponent to be ready.
