How to play Rocksmith 2014 with an Audio Interface for Rocksmith® 2014 Edition - Remastered

How to play Rocksmith 2014 with an Audio Interface

Overview

Before we start, this guide still requires that you use the Rocksmith cable. The problem this guide solves is that you can have your speakers only attached to your audio interface and still play Rocksmith.

Requirements

You will need:

  • An audio interface (it needs to have monitoring capabilities). I use a Scarlett 2i2
  • A regular sound card / or one built-in to your motherboard
  • An adapter cable that plugs from your built-in motherboard to your interface. For example I have a 1/8th inch to two 1/4 inch cable. I used this one [www.amazon.com]

How to connect everything

What you do is plug the adapter cable into your computer’s built-in audio out, plug the other end(s) into your audio interface input(s). Configure your Audio Interface to use it’s monitoring mode. On the Scarlett 2i2 that means pressing the “Direct Monitor” button and toggling to either mono or stereo monitoring. Your audio interface will need to output to your speakers. You will also need to set the volume for the inputs to the interface from your computer. Make sure that if the inputs have a “volume type” selector that it isn’t set to “instrument levels”. On the Scarlett 2i2 that means you do not want “INST” to be lit up.

Validate, then launch game

Before you start Rocksmith make sure that the computer’s audio is set to the built-in audio output and NOT to the audio interface. Before you launch the game validate that you can hear computer audtio with this setup (especially check the monitoring setting and the input volumes). Then launch the game and play as normal.
