Overview
Setup the game to not crash and not bug out, get some decent graphics and enjoy this masterpiece
Introduction
This guide is meant for people with up to date computers who want to enjoy this old classic without their eyes bleeding or game crashes getting to their sanity. We dont want to play around with any boot settings or hyperthreading or anything. It’s just a game. Yes, Rockstar should’ve made it more compatible but oh well, rockstar. Let us begin
Get the latest SilentPatch
Below you can find the latest version of SilentPatch for Bully: Scholarship Edition.
This patch mainly aims to make the game stable and smooth on PC. You can get more information about the project from the Github link.
Github Link[github.com]
Direct Download Link[github.com]
After downloading the latest release for the game, copy the zip file contents into the game folder.
SKIP TO GRAPHICAL TWEAKING IF YOU INSTALLED THIS. DO NOT USE THE UNCAPPED EXECUTABLE TOGETHER WITH THE PATCH.
Remove FPS Cap (Optional)
I highly suggest removing the FPS cap in SilentPatchBully.ini.
Change:
FPSLimit=30
to
FPSLimit=0
Window Resize Fix (Optional)
I have 2 monitors with different DPI settings and the patch did not scale properly, making the game window much bigger than the monitor resolution.
To fix this, righ click Bully.exe, under compatibility, click High DPI Settings. Check the checkbox for Override high DPI Scaling Behaviour and select Application. This will make sure the window displays correctly.
Get the Working Uncapped Executable(Alternative)
SKIP TO GRAPHICAL TWEAKING IF YOU INSTALLED SILENTPATCH. DO NOT USE THE UNCAPPED EXECUTABLE TOGETHER WITH THE PATCH.
**NOT SUGGESTED ANYMORE**
Removing the FPS cap on this terrible console port will introduce game-breaking bugs that will bug out at least 3 missions, making them unpassable. Also it will introduce many many many animation glitches and physics bugs. NOT RECOMMENDED
This part is quite straightforward.
Get the exe from here[community.pcgamingwiki.com].
The exe is to be put where your original game executable is. For most people this will be in
“C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonBully Scholarship Edition”.
Rename the original to something else and drop this one in there.
Onto compatibility..
Compatibility Help
Now we get to the dirty part. Some compatibility settings applied here may be obsolete or unneded. Feel free to play around with them to find whatever works best for you.
Match these settings as a baseline and you can experiment with the rest.
Graphics Tweaking – Essential
This is the part that you have to do to keep the game from freaking out from extreme framerates. We will do the eyecandy later
These settings are done in Nvidia Control Panel or Catalys Control Center depending on your graphics card. I have Nvidia on my pc so this is how I set it up
Choose bully.exe in the control panel
-Disable threaded optimization for compatibility
-turn on triple buffering
-Set up vsync
Setting up the vsync like that will make the game a little smoother. Also if you run a 120hz screen, make sure to select Adaptive(Half Refresh Rate) option.
We go to the eyecandy..
Graphics Tweaking – Eyecandy
This part is about people with beefy rigs getting off mostly. You can skip this one if you dont mind playing at default game settings
As we are in the control panel, lets tick a few more boxes
-Force anistropic filtering at 16x
-Set AA to enhance game settings
-Use 2x supersampling
Mine ends up looking like this
This part depends on what you have under the hood and what you expect on visual quality. I consider aa injectors and rehades to be worthless crap that ruins the visual fidelity but each on it’s own in this matter. Pushing these settings *may* toll your gpu or cpu since they give small improvements at exponentially increasing cost.
Off we start the game
Ingame Settings and Core Affinity
Set up the ingame settings to match your resolution and the rest according to the following picture
If you have low fps ingame, disable shadows. It is a major performance hog
Now we have just one little setting before we head off to topple over the school hierarchy.
Save the settings and restart the game
Now while the game is open, launch the task manager. We will set the core affinity of this bad boy
Now set up bully to use just one of your cores, and the first one at that
**Hyper-Threading might reduce this game’s performance. Make damn sure to use an even numbered core so you get proper performance if you have Hyper-threading. So use core 0, or if you want to offload the game to another core use core 2, never use core 1, 3 if you have hyper-threading.
YOU NEED TO SET AFFINITY EVERY TIME YOU LAUNCH THE GAME
Play the Damn Game
We are done tweaking this old man. Now get playing and beat gary to a pulp:)
