Greetings friend and welcome.This humble guide will help you to rename general/city of your favourite faction.If you’re fan of roleplaying and do you wish to be part of Rome campaign,i’ll help you to achieve this dream.(Please excuse me,when i’ll do some mistakes.English isn’t my national language.Thanks.)
Warnings and infos about renaming.
Do you remember times when you could rename your character by simple changing text in documents in game? Well,forget about it,it’s not so simple anymore.
Unfortunatelly renaming things in Rome 2 is complicated but don’t worry,i’m sure you can do it.
By the river Styx i did it by myself and i’m not expert in these things.
OK,let’s begin.
Warnings:
1) I’m using Czech version of Rome 2 Total War,main goal of this guide is changing ”local_cz_rome2.pack” file.
So if you’re using English,French,German or other version of R2TW it’ll be same but in different national shortcut.
2) Every new patch or update will turn your changes into original.I know,it’s annoying.Sure you can save your changed file to the future but i do not recommend it.With updates came new text in game.
3) Create a copy of file before your change.Better safe than sorry.
Ok enough of warnings and let’s do it 🙂
Renaming: step by step
Alright,first we need general to rename.
I picked Patrocles of Seleucid Empire as an example.
Good,now when we know who’s our renaming target let’s get to work.
We need a tool and the best is Pack Fille Manager.
You can download it here: [link] from the Total War Forum webside.
When your PFM is installed double click on application.
Before you’ll pick file click on Options and cancel option of CA Packs Are Read Only
When system ask you what next click ”I’m not affraid,cowards!” we aren’t cowards,are we? 😉
Now we can change text,so click File->Open-> now search for your R2TW data folder i have it on D:SteamSteamAppscommonTotal War Rome IIdata when you’re done it search ”local_cz_rome2.pack” (if you’re using french version,it’ll be local_fr_rome2.pack,etc.) then double click it.
Excellent now we’re on half way.When is file loaded click on +local_cz_rome2.pack then +text and click localisation.loc,i recommend to click ”Localised String” for alphabetical purpose.
Now name of general was Patrocles,was it? Find Patrocles …
…and rename him whatever you like,i shall use Androklos as an example.
Then press Enter and character is renamed.Now Save file in ‘Save as’-> and replace existed file with yours.Wait for saving changes and that’s it.
Let’s see if it worked….
Congratulations,you made your own general.Now you can play as ‘yourself’ and be the greatest leader and king in your favourite faction’s history.
