How to report bugs and get dev attention for Prison Architect

How to report bugs and get dev attention

Overview

Ever found a bug in this game and don’t know where to report it? No luck complaining on steam forums? Then try this instead.

What you need to do beforehand

First off you need to register you’re game to the introversion forums and you need you’re cd key for this, the website is here[www.introversion.co.uk]. This will also allow you to modify your Name in Game prisoner if you have one.

Logging in to MantisBT

You need to go here [link] and log in with you’re forum login info. You might need to register for a MantisBT account or set up you’re bug reporting account. Bug Report Website[bugs.introversion.co.uk]

Bug reporting:Common sense

First off, lets go over some common sense you must use and some things you might want to do before you report a bug

Too many times I see people report a feature, report an issue already reported, and report a bug thats already fixed. All this wastes the dev’s time, time needed to smash bugs or even add new content.

Verifying if its a bug

Try to ask other people if its a bug or not. Ways to do this are posting to steam forums or just keep up to date on the updates. You don’t want to look like a fool because you’re doing it wrong.

Check if it is already posted

After you verified that it is an actual bug, check the bug database to see if its already posted or not.

Try to do self testing if you can

This will also greatly help the developers. A few of the things you can do is switch prisons, disable mods, and try to reproduce it and provide all you’re data in the report.

Reporting the bug

Now that we’ve finally come to the part where we report the bug here’s some tips.

  • Don’t make trivial bugs high priority
  • If you’re using mod(s),let the devs know you have em by providing workshop links(s)
Make it as detailed as possible

Make the dev’s job as easy as possible by putting in as many important details as you can.

Include a save file (if applicable) and/or debug.txt file/black box file

These are super helpful to the devs as it can point out the cause, they will probably request for it anyways so why not include it already.
All of these can be found at
C:Users(username)AppDataLocalIntroversionPrison Architect
The blackbox.txt file will only appear on special errors and bugs so it may not appear

Bonus section: Giving suggestions

You have an idea for prison architect, but no way to get dev attention?

Honestly you have a pretty low chance of getting it applied in an update since there hasn’t been any instance of any suggested feature making it to an update and you’re far better off asking a modder to do it,but hey if its a pretty good feature mine as well take a shot
It’s pretty easy, follow the steps mentioned earlier except instead of describing a bug, describe a suggestion.
Here are some tips

  • Don’t get salty because the devs did not listen as mentioned in a comment by Drewfus, some things are much easier said then done.
  • Look for mods that do this already
  • Make sure its logical and would be a vauleable addition to the game and not something only you would enjoy

Again don’t get salty because the devs did not listen because they tend to leave these to modders

Done.

Hopefully it gets the dev’s attention, you could also give suggestions using this method aswell, but the devs seem more focused on smashing bugs. It may take some time for a dev to comment or to be assigned to the issue. Comment below if you have any bugs with the guide or suggestions and please r8 this so we can reach more people
