How to ressurect your hero [Updated!]

Overview

[Edit: Okay, so game was updated not so long ago, so the old path to the town events is a bit different, and also want to add a few tips for my original guide] We’ve all been there. One of your favourite characters has bleed/blight effect, gets a treebranch smackdown crit in his face, and dies one move away from being healed. Or you just went greedy and didnt retreat in time. Point being, is that you REALLY liked that character, you locked in his positive quirks, and he was very high level and you wish you could bring him back to life. Well, actually, there is a town event in the game, that allows you to bring dead heroes back from the dead, but it’s very random, so this little trick will for sure make it easier for you.

Increasing the chance of Resurrection town event.

You have to open the folder where Darkest Dungeon files are located on your computer, and open the base.town_events.json file with notebook extension. The updated path should be

SteamLibrary —> SteamApps —> common —> DarkestDungeon —> campaign —> town_events —> base.town_events.events.json

Then, to make things easier, just press alt+f and search for “dead_recruit” in the search field, it will find the town event info for hero ressurection, then just increase the chances of it happening by adding 99 to “base_chance”:, and 99 to “per_not_rolled_additional_chance”, and putting the “cooldown” on 0, like in the picture provided.

This will increase chances of 3 of your dead heroes being brought back from the dead after the next quest, be sure to save and exit though. Later change it back, after you get your favourite hero, unless you want to constantly repeat the same ement over and over.

Also, your ressurected hero will suffer total upgrade penalties, but will keep his quirks and resolve level, unless you want to tinker further with the numbers, but that just wouldnt be too fair now, would it?

[Edit: I would suggest not trying your luck with tweaking the paremeters, or putting numbers higher than 99.0, I don’t think it actually goes higher and may only just break the events. Also, if you want to trigger this event, try to not do missions that will GUARANTEE a specific event, so go for basic “explore 90% rooms” type. It might actually take you a 2 or 3 weeks to trigger the event, due to past missions, but now it works for sure.]
