Overview
This is for people who want and try to help their teammates when they fall in battle, but want to avoid getting killed while doing so. I know this game is still in early development, but someone had to say this…
Let’s Start with the Facts
0- The game is still in development so this guide’s information may change overtime or become completely irrelevant with later versions of the game. I will try to keep it up to date, but I don’t plan on changing it every time the game updates if the update doesn’t directly affect reviving.
1- If you play alone and at some point you die, you can’t revive nor be revived. Revival takes teamwork. Oh sure, you CAN be “revived” by yourself if there are other players with you, but if they do not revive you themselves, that means you’ll be waiting about 40 seconds or so while your allies fight without your help AND you will miss out on all the fun and exp.
2- Reviving requires you to press and hold E when close to a fallen ally or they be close to you when reviving you.
3- Reviving takes time (How long could change with patches as the game goes along in development, AND it also changes with certain upgrades.)
4- Just because you are reviving someone doesn’t mean you cannot move or attack. The trick is staying close enough to the fallen person to still revive them. The revival gauge drops when you aren’t close enough to the person you’re trying to help.
5- Multiple people CAN attempt to revive the same person at the same time, but this will usually be less helpful especially in intense combat situations.
For instance: If 4 players are defending a control center, and one falls, if 2 of their allies run up to revive them, they leave their 1 other ally to defend the objective AND take on most of the Grimm alone, which risks them dying too, and/or the objective being lost, and it also risks the 2 doing the revive being attacked by the Grimm or getting distracted so that revival takes just as long as waiting to recover on your own.
6- Also, multiple people reviving the same person does NOT make them revive any faster. It may seem like it, but it doesn’t. (At this point at least.)
7- Reviving people is supposed to be helpful. It gets allies back in the fight, rewards the one reviving with exp and an achievement, and shows more courtesy to the overall game experience of all players when they play rather than having to wait. So don’t just leave people behind.
8- Communication can be critical when figuring out who does what in any situation. I know that it’s tough to talk when hordes of Grimm are all around, but if you’re the one who’s fallen. Why not use the chance to get messages out? (Press T to initiate talk/chat)
9- While someone is waiting to revive or be revived, it makes a great chance to upgrade and unlock new skills if you’ve leveled up, but you still need to be quick about it since you can’t see if someone is coming to revive you or not. (Press Tab to pull up the upgrade/skill tree menu.)
10- I know this has been hinted at up till now, but I’m just going to say it: When reviving….
Getting yourself killed while trying to revive someone else is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!
The 5 Revival Scenarios
Reviving is very helpful, but one thing I can’t emphasize enough: IT’S RISKY, SO BE CAREFUL!
Here are 5 Revival Scenarios you will likely be in at one point and what you can do when they arise from least to most dangerous:
1- Safest Revival – Say you or 1-3 of your allies was beaten right as you finished an objective, killed all the Grimm in an area or finished a level. There are no more enemies in the area to worry about so players can be revived without any problems and proceed.
***** Special note – When your allies are dead and need reviving, they don’t get exp. Same goes if you are dead and they aren’t. Think about that before running off to collect treasure for yourself.
2- Fairly Safe Revival – You or 1-3 of your allies is killed, but your team manages to finish off the few remaining Grimm and survives a wave, this is that window of time before the next wave starts. You can usually revive at least 1 or 2 in this time depending on how close everyone is. The risk is that the next wave of Grimm will start spawning soon so make every second count.
3- Typical Revival – You or 1-2 of your allies is killed in the middle of a fight with the Grimm, this is when there are still lots of Grimm left to take care of, but not the very start nor end of a wave. In this case, it’s usually a given that at least 1 Grimm is going to be after the player trying to revive (perhaps it’s the same one that killed the fallen player). In this situation you CAN fight the Grimm to try create a quick window to perform a revive, but as I said, it will be hard to stay close to the target if attacking sends you out of revival range. A good idea would be to have any other players try to lure the Grimm away from you and/or the player doing the reviving as well as the player being revived, or just have them fight the Grimm to cover you. HOWEVER if going to help someone in this situation brings more Grimm to them since the Grimm were following you, DO NOT APPROACH THEM.
4- Dangerous Revival – Say that there are only 2 players active out of 3-4. Could be 2 of your allies or 1 ally and you are the only ones still standing. The Grimm are still numerous, and any objectives you need to defend or complete are looking bad. You could both fight the Grimm, but if you both get overrun and die, it’s over. SO what do you do? Well, one of you has to be the diversion and either try to lure as many Grimm away from the others including the one reviving the rest. If that means fighting the Grimm or just getting them to chase you, is your call, just make sure that whoever is doing the revival is not the Grimm’s main focus.
5- Worst Case Scenario – You and/or 2-3 of your allies have been defeated, there’s only 1 active player left and the Grimm are in a large swarm with the strongest enemies. Perhaps the objective is under attack too or maybe a boss is there as well. In this case, fighting the Grimm will DEFINITELY end in failure. At least alone, but you can’t stop to revive because pretty much all the Grimm are gunning for you or the objective. What do you do? Run. Simple as that.
PRESS AND HOLD SHIFT TO RUN! Run around to avoid getting hit, but then run all the way to the other end of the area where you are battling the Grimm, then make a sharp U-Turn back toward your fallen allies while avoiding running straight into the Grimm that are chasing you, and start to Revive whichever one you reach, preferrably the furthest from the Grimm first since it would take the Grimm longer to catch up. If all the Grimm aren’t following you, run around until you’re sure that most aren’t anywhere close to the people you intend to revive. NEVER FIGHT WHEN THE DIFFICULTY IS FOR 4 PLAYERS AND ONLY 1 IS STILL ALIVE!
There is literally NO benefit to fighting the 4-player difficulty alone. If you win (which is very very unlikely), you’ll be the only one out of the 4 to get any exp or fun out of the battle. If you lose (which you likely will), it will be your fault that everyone will lose their progress and go back to the last checkpoint or even start of a level. I repeat: NEVER FIGHT WHEN THE DIFFICULTY IS FOR 4 PLAYERS AND ONLY 1 IS STILL ALIVE!
————————————————————————————————————————–
*6- SUPER RARE Revival Scenario – You are in a server with 3-4 players (this won’t happen in 2-player servers). You AND an ally are both defeated by Grimm, but you were standing right next to one another. Meaning you are both right next to each other when you’re waiting to revive normally. You look toward your comrade and get the prompt “Revive”! Then you press E and…. You start reviving your fallen comrade WHILE YOU ARE STILL KNOCKED OUT! Yes! As of (2/18/2015) it is actually possible to revive another player while you yourself are knocked out so long as you are both close enough to each other. This is very rare and depends solely on being close together as well as there being at least 3 players in the server including yourself.
*******UPDATE******* As of April 15th 2016, the game has been updated and the ability to heal fallen comrades while you are also down has been taken out of the game and is no longer possible. The 6th scenario is no longer possible.
Happy Hunting!
That’s all for now, I hope this helps, and if you have anything you think I missed or need to mention, clarify, or change, let me know and I shall look into it.
Be sure to rate up, fav, and/or spread the word to your fellow huntsmen and huntresses (in-game) so that we can all stand up against the Grimm menace!
