Overview
This guide will show you the best ways to save or backup your own client commands or binds in your game. So they will never disappear or reset each update that goes live.
Introduction
Hello there fellow survivor or undead, in this tutorial, I’m going to show you the best way to always backup your commands, binds and gameplay changes you did to always create the best environment for you while playing Zombie Panic! Source before they get reset every time an update goes live. So let’s get started!
Browsing local files of your game
First, you need to know where your game folder is located in your PC. Follow these steps to find out:
- 1. Right click on “Zombie Panic Source“.
- 2. Select the “Properties” option.
- 3. Select the “Local Files” tab.
- 4. Click on “Browse local files…“
Did it?
Then a new window will pop up: that’s your Zombie Panic Source’s game folder we’re looking for.
Now, double click on “zps” folder, then double click on “cfg” folder. Done! This is where your commands and binds should be saved and executed in-game.
Creating an autoexec.cfg file
Now you must create a text file and name it as “autoexec”. To create a text file or .txt file on a computer you need a text editor such as Notepad that comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows.
While on your “cfg” folder, right-click on your folder screen and in the menu that appears, click New and then click Text Document;
Good! You have created a blank text file! Now double-click on it, should pop up a window of your file. In there, write down any Source command or bind you want to save for you. For example:
This should replace your panic button to another key, which will be the ” i “. Other example:
This should replace your voice command (microphone – push-to-talk); to your third MOUSE key (middle); More examples:
Now that you have everything written down on it, you must save your commands! Save your text file as “autoexec.cfg” and done! A new file will be automatically created as “autoexec” together with the other .cfg files!
Every time you want to add a new command or change it, follow those steps and edit your autoexec.cfg file any time!
Have a great game!
