How to setup multiplayer [EN/Classic version] for It came from space and ate our brains

How to setup multiplayer [EN/Classic version]

Overview

This guide will help You to setup the game in multiplayer mode. It works with classic game version only. It won’t be updated with new game version as “Faster” update is in beta right now and with its release steam remote play should work just fine.

Switching to classic game version

In Your steam library find the game and right click on it, then go to properties,

In properties go over to the “Beta” tab, left click on the drop down menu and select “classic” version of the game.

Setting up the network

To setup the network I recommend using ZeroTier app as it works better than hamachi and it’s easier to configure.
First head to the: ZeroTier[www.zerotier.com] download and install the app. Next step is to create an account on the site.

Click on the sign up button.

Enter Your data and press register button.

Now You have to confirm Your email address

If You’re going to host the game You should create a network after logging in.

After clicking on create network You should see a new network there and click on it.

After clicking on the network You should see this screen. Now You can add a friendly name for Your network (optional). Also be sure to check the “public” network. If You won’t select public network You’ll have to accept every new member of the network manually. Of course it’s all up to You

Now right click on ZeroTier icon on the taskbar and select option “join network”.

Copy the code of the network which You’ll find on network creation page. This code is also needed for Your friends to join the network.

Launching the game server

When You and Your friends join the same network You should be able to join the game now. The reason for setting up the network this way is that most internet providers give You a dynamic IP address and NAT function which is used by the game is disabled. Using ZeroTier You can create virtual network even if You have NAT disabled.

Now in Your windows start menu type in “cmd” and after opening it type in “ipconfig” to see what IP address belongs to virtual network. Take a look at ZeroTier ethernet adapter.

Now knowing the IP head over to multiplayer section in game and click on “host”. Copy or rewrite the IP address You saw in the cmd window.

After hosting the game Your friends can join it via “direct join”. They have to type in IP address of the host.

After everything is done You can see Your friends in lobby, change the map and difficulty settings and start the game.

As You can see I was able to join the game with 2 different computers by connecting them in one virtual network.

Summary

If You followed everything in this guide You should be able to host and join the game in multiplayer mode. If You encountered any errors feel free to ask for solutions. The classic version of the game isn’t updated anymore but it’s possible that other users had the same problem and found the solution 🙂 Have fun playing and if my guide helped You feel free to rate it and share it with Your friends.
