How to Steal a Spaceship for Starbound

How to Steal a Spaceship

Overview

Have you ever looked at one of those NPC ships and said “Hey, that’s a pretty cool ship. I want to have one of those.” Well now you can!

Step 1: Get a Mod

The first thing you need to do is get a mod that allows you to customize your own ship. I’ve tested this on BYOS, but other mods may work as well.

Step 2: Spawn the Ship

Before you do anything, I reccomend that you clear out whatever you have except for a small platform to stand on.

Next, you’ll want to enter the following commands:
/admin
/placedungeon pirateship

(I’m not sure if the ship spawns at the mouse pointer or not, so keep it below you.)
And congrats, you now have a pirate ship. Try to pan around the camera if you can’t find it, as it might just be offscreen.

Shhh! They don’t see me!

Now, feel free to fishaxe your little platform, as you now have a sweet pirate ship.

Step 3: Customize

Now that you have your pirate ship, the first thing you want to do is get in there and loot the thing. I mean, you can’t have any bloodthirsty pirates bothering you while you cruise the galaxy, right? Anyways, this should be an easy enough step to complete on your own.

Now that you have an empty ship all to yourself, you might realize that you aren’t allowed to break certain blocks. (specifically, background blocks on the outside of the ship.)

Nooooooooo!

To change this, make sure you’re still in admin and enter the following command:
/settileprotection 65524 false

Now you’re ready to make this ship yours.

But first, we’ll need all of the special “ship parts.” If you’re using BYOS they should be in the shiplocker, which you may or may not have destroyed. Otherwwise, the items /spawnitem codes are as follows:

humanteleporter

humantechstation

humanshiplocker

humanfuelhatch

humancaptainschair

For other race’s furniture, just replace “human” with whatever race you need.

!IMPORTANT!

Once you place your teleporter, you may not want to test it out just yet. Or if you already have, you may have realized that your ship teleporter isn’t necessarilly where you teleport when you beam up. To fix this, simply stand on the teleporter and enter:

/setspawnpoint

Now you’re ready to cruise the galaxy in style!

Bugs and Extra Info

BUGS:

  • Remember those “background blocks outside the ship” that I was talking about? Well apparrently
those have no gravity for whatever reason, even though, in BYOS, the empty space blocks do have gravity. I do not know why this is, but if you break and replace them they regain gravity.

  • Spawning in the ship will also spawn in the debris and asteroids around the ship, which will spawn enemies. However, inside the ship, enemies won’t be able to reach you and probably won’t even chase you due to being too far away.
  • The item ID for the Apex teleporter is just “teleporter”.

OTHER FEATURES

  • The NPC ships are randomly generated, so yours may be different from the one shown
  • Any dungeon can be turned into a ship by this method, you can find the dungeon id using the /debug menu like so:

    Go crazy!
