Overview
Fixing the trouble with the rotation of the controller left stick to turn a crank.
Introduction
The first time I tried doing the rotation of the controller left stick to turn the crank, I thought there was a problem with my controller since it just didn’t work.
I tried to find the solution for this, but I couldn’t find anything that is satisfactory. After some testing, I finally found the solution.
How to..
After more testing.. I’ve found there are 2 methods to fix this problem
Method 1
- Open setting, choose Control Setup
- Move to Joypad Deadzone, lower the deadzone indicator
Before
After - Save your setting
- Whenever you are asked to rotate the left stick (to turn a crank), just do it gently, keep rotate it, don’t stop until it’s done. It should works now.
Method 2 (Recommended)
This problem may be caused by high framerates (144 fps). The other way to fix this problem is by limiting the framerates to 60 fps
- Open setting, choose Video Settings
- Move to Refresh Rate, set it to 60 Hz, (with Vertical Sync On)
- Save your setting
- It should works now. You also don’t need to do the Method 1 if you use this method
Closing comments…
- It’s actually possible to do the rotating without changing any setting, but the timing is really slow
- Lowering the joypad deadzone helps performing the rotation easier, but it’s still have a chance to fail if doing it too fast.
- Limiting the framerates to 60 fps, by changing the refresh rate to 60Hz, with vsync on will make performing the rotation works 100% (at least based on my experience), so this is the recommended solution
- I tested this on 144Hz display, so I have no idea if this works for 60Hz display (I haven’t tested it)
