Overview

How to unlock all masks in Hotline Miami

Rooster (Richard)

Richard is the default Rooster mask. Jacket has access to this mask from the start of the game. Being that is the first and only mask available from the beginning, it offers no benefits.

Richard, one of the three masked personas, also wears the Richard mask.

Owl (Rasmus)

Rasmus – An eye for secrets.

The Rasmus mask creates a shimmering purple effect around puzzle pieces. It also reveals strange red marks on the ground believed to be the symbol for “50 blessings”, the company for which Jacket and Biker work.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Prelude (Metro).

Tiger (Tony)

Tony – Gives Jacket “Fists of Fury”. This means faster executions and killing blows from fists. Jacket’s fists can also kill dogs.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 1, No Talk.

(In the chapter Tension, an individual in the bomb room is seen wearing this mask, suggesting he was another operator who failed his mission.)

Pig (Aubrey)

While wearing this mask, all non-key melee weapons on the ground and in-hand, are likely going to be guns.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 2, Overdose

(While playing as Biker, the first cutscene prior to the first mission involves beating a man wearing this mask.)

Walrus (Earl)

Earl – Wearing this mask allows Jacket survive two bullets. This mask can be found on a dead body on the second floor in Chapter 2, Overdose. The mask is currently glitched and will still let the player die should they take a bullet.

Earl belonged to another operator, a 50 Blessings operative; the dead body found slumped on the chair on chapter 2 who inadvertently failed his mission. With his body laying on a chair we can assume that he died under interrogation before Jacket could arrive, as he subsequently takes the mask.

(Earl’s dead body can also be found on the new bonus map “Exposed”, including the mask if you haven’t collected it already. This is the same for the masks “Jake” and “Carl”)

Horse (Don Juan)

Don Juan makes slamming doors into enemies instantly lethal, where they would normally be knocked down.
Achieve a high score in Decadence
Don Juan is also the mask of the visitation persona.
This mask seems to be linked to the Hooker, as supported by the image on the box art of a female figure wearing the mask.It also provides a score of 2,200 (as opposed to the normal 600) when performing a ground kill against the wall.

Rabbit (Graham)

Graham – gives the ability to walk fast, similar to Brandon Mask (Panther) but to a slower extent.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 4,Tension.

This mask is somewhat useful for avoiding gunfire. It can outrun bullets shot by enemies at a considerable range.

Crocodile (Jones)

Jones – Wearing this mask will add “More Gore”, making kills and executions bloodier and more gruesome.

This mask can be found on Chapter 5, Full House.

To obtain the mask, kill everyone in the building so that the “Go to car” message appears. Instead of going to the car, pick up the crowbar lying near the entryway and run around to the back of the building.
There will be a manhole which can be opened with the crowbar (simply walk towards it while holding the crowbar). Inside, the mask will be lying next to a mortally wounded man (most possibly an agent of 50 Blessings). The man will utter strange phrases and claim that everything that is happening is only a dream, referencing the fact that most of Hotline Miami takes place in Jacket’s coma, before seemingly dying. Picking up the mask and finishing the level will also unlock the “Sewer Alligator” achievement.

Wolf (Dennis)

Dennis[/b ]- Gives Jacket a knife at the beginning of the chapter when equipped.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 5, Full House.

In the post-level shop scene of Tension, Jacket can witness a random sequence in which a group of armed Russian mobsters surround a man wearing this mask not far from the shop’s entrance. After a short conversation with Beard, the man is found beaten to death, with both the Russian gang and his mask out of sight.

Giraffe (George)

George – Gives you ability to look further when holding down shift.

This mask may be obtained by getting a high score on chapter 6(Clean Hit).

Dog (Ted)

Ted – When wearing mask, dogs will not attack player. Dogs still count as enemies and must be killed to complete stages.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score on chapter 7, Neighbors.

Grasshopper (Carl)

Carl is an unlockable mask, taking the form of a locust.

Wearing it grants Jacket a drill at the start of the chapter. This mask is the only legitimate way to obtain the drill.

Carl can be found in Chapter 8, Push It, on a dead body in the centermost room of the ground floor.

Elephant (Rufus)

Rufus – When wearing mask, player can survive one bullet.

This mask may be obtained by getting a high score on chapter 8.

Camel (Rami)

Rami – Gives you extra ammo. The mask will add 1/3 more bullets to the magazine. If 1/3 of the normal magazine size isn’t a round number, then the result will be rounded up.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 9, Crackdown.

The Rami mask will not work on the first section of any chapter at all and in later chapter sections, will only affect weapons dropped by enemies. Because of this, the following weapons cannot gain the bonus from the mask.

  • Silenced Uzi
  • Uzi
  • MP5
  • Skorpion
  • Magnum

While the MP5 and the Uzi are carried by enemies, the enemies who carry them are either in the first section or bosses who always drop empty weapons.

Extra Ammunition
Assault Rifle 32/24
Double Barrel Shotgun 3/2
Shotgun 8/6
Silenced Pistol 18/13

Cobra (Jake)

This mask can be found in Chapter 10, Hot & Heavy, north-west section, on a dead body in the top most room. It gives to jacket Killing Throws
The Jake mask belonged to another 50 Blessings operator (presumably named Jake) who failed his mission and got killed (at the location of the chapter Hot & Heavy).

Jake’s dead body can also be found on the new bonus map “Exposed”, including the mask if you haven’t collected it already. This is the same for the masks “Carl” and “Earl”

Monkey (Willem)

Willem – When wearing this mask, pressing space next to the enemy will kill said enemy while stealing his weapon.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in chapter 10.

Unicorn (Peter)

Peter – When wearing this mask, guns get their noise generation reduced significantly. However, one must take note that it merely reduces and not completely removes noise from gunfire, meaning enemies in close proximities might still occasionally get alarmed.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in chapter 11.(Deadline)

Frog (Zack)

Zack – Gives the player more time between kills before their combo multiplier resets.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score (seemingly at least a C-) in Chapter 13(Assault).

This Mask is especially useful when attempting to get A+ ranks on all levels, or the Combo King achievement. Combos are one of the best ways to boost your score, and this mask is best utilized when enemies are more spread or you otherwise need extra time to build up combos.

Rat (Ritcher)

Richter is an unlockable mask. When worn, Jacket is provided with a Silenced Uzi at the start of the chapter.

Richter can be found in the final stage of Chapter 13, Assault, on a counter in the room furthest to the north-east, lying next to a non-usable silenced uzi.

Mole (Oscar)

Oscar – Darkness. The player’s view gets filtered through a dark red filter that pulses from red to black. This mask only serves to give the player a greater challenge. The dark filter does not affect the enemies.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in chapter 14(Vengeance).

Octopus (Charlie)

Charlie – Spawns melee weapons more often in weapon spawns.

This mask can be found in chapter 16 on a counter in the kitchen area. It can only be picked up after all enemies have been killed.

Fox (Rick)

Rick – Good shot.
This mask lets Jacket have a greater choke (less spread with shotguns) and better accuracy with all guns (and thrown weapons).
This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in chapter 16.(Safehouse)
This mask also increases existing damage with firearms, most noticeabley the silenced pistol, which without the mask would require perfectly centered shots (Headshots) in order to yield one-hit kills.

Panther (Brandon)

Brandon – Gives you ability to walk faster, similar to Graham Mask (Rabbit) but to a greater extent.

This mask may be obtained by achieving a high score in Chapter 17, Fun & Games.

Killing the two panthers in the Final Chapter, Showdown, while wearing this mask gives you the Cat Fight achievement

Fish (Phil)

Phil – Translates in-game language to French (Dialogue only)
This mask may be found in Chapter 19, Resolution. It is lying in a box underground with a pile of non-interactable masks.

Chameleon (Louie)

Louie – When wearing the mask, the player is not spotted so easily by enemies.

This mask can be obtained by beating the game with the normal ending.

Bat (Nigel)

The mask only affects the movement keys, not the mouse. Beating Chapter 2, Overdose, while wearing this mask will unlock the achievement Batman. If the player remaps their movement keys to already be inverted, the mask will simply invert the keys again reverting control back to normal.

This mask can be obtained by finishing the game (chapter 19) with the secret ending.

SECRET ENDING

Throughout the game the player may pick up puzzle pieces that have a letter upon them. These letters form a simple word puzzle where the player has to figure out what all the letters put together mean. The puzzle may be accessed during a game by pressing ESC then selecting Puzzle, provided the player has at least one piece in their possession. Completing the puzzle gives access to the secret ending in Resolution by using the computer in that level.
As with masks, there is an icon on the chapter selection screen that indicates whether the puzzle piece in the selected chapter has already been collected.
When solving the puzzle, letters that have been left in the right location for a few seconds will turn blue and get locked into the location. Using this feature, one could complete the puzzle by simply trying out each piece in each location and wait for the blue confirmation. Once all the letters are in the right locations, the puzzle will constantly flash to indicate completion. The puzzle screen shows empty grey boxes to indicate where letters should be placed and grey bars between the boxes to indicate what sets of letters form a word.
There are 16 puzzle pieces in total. One piece may be found in every level.

Each puzzle piece appears as a small purple square which can be very hard to see unless one is specifically looking for them. The Rasmus mask will add a small glow around the pieces making them more noticeable. The puzzle pieces can be right clicked to be picked up. Once a piece has been picked up, it will not save to the player’s save file until the section has been completed. The exception to this rule is if you find the last piece and then solve the puzzle. You do not need to complete the chapter for the solved puzzle to remain solved.

The following slideshow will indicate where the puzzle pieces are in each chapter.
