Lazarus
Lazarus is a character unlocked by having four or more Soul Hearts (or Black Hearts) at once during a run. He was introduced in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. He starts with three red heart containers and a double-blue pill with an unidentified effect. He has slightly lower Range and Luck than Isaac* but also starts with an extra life. His revived form has increased base stats, with above-average damage, speed, and range. Though low on health, his improved stats counterbalance this weakness well.
(In Afterbirth † and Repentance)* After Challenge 31: Backasswards* is beaten, Lazarus starts with Anemic. Additionally, Lazarus Risen's Anemic* effect is permanent and no longer requires him to take damage.
(In Repentance)* Upon transforming into Lazarus Risen, Lazarus loses one heart container, instead of removing all but one. This cannot bring Lazarus below one heart container. When moving on to a new floor after losing an extra life on that floor, Lazarus Risen will revert back to Lazarus, and regain an extra life. Each time Lazarus dies, he gains a +0.5 damage up to both forms.

Eden
Eden is a character in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, unlocked by completing Womb for the first time. Eden is unique in that they are only playable when the player has at least one Eden Token. Eden Tokens are awarded every time Mom's Heart, It Lives, (except in Rebirth) Ultra Greed or (in Repentance) The Beast is defeated. Each time a game is started as Eden, one token is consumed and a new Eden is randomly generated based on the seed, with one of the multiple hairstyles, random base stats, a random trinket, and a randomly chosen starting active item and passive item.
Eden's stats are centered around Isaac's, meaning that they are on average identical to Isaac's but may vary significantly from run to run. The stats on this page are all ranges with Isaac's stats at the center, plus or minus a certain amount up to the values listed.

The Lost
The Lօst is a secret character.
The Lօst starts with no health and cannot gain health by any means. Therefore, he will die from any damage taken.
- The Lօst starts with flight.
- (In Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) The Lօst starts with flight, spectral tears, D4 (If unlocked), and the effect of Holy Mantle (after donating 879 coins to the Greed Donation Machine)
- (in Repentance) The Lօst starts with flight, spectral tears, Eternal D6, and the effect of Holy Mantle (after donating 879 coins to the Greed Donation Machine). This form of Holy Mantle is inherent to the character rather than being a starting item, and as such will be present when switching to The Lօst in the middle of the run through the use of Clicker, will not be present when switching away, and cannot be removed by any means.
(except in Rebirth) The Lօst can activate the button in Greed mode without taking damage, at the price of one less coin spawning in the next wave's reward.
The Lօst can take devil deals and Black Market items for free.- (in Repentance) Devil deals and Black Market items are presented as choices. Taking one will despawn all other deals in the room.
- This also applies to devil deals in the first room of the Dark Room; only one of the devil deals spawned by the chests can be taken, regardless of how many chests have been opened.
Unlocking The Lօst in Rebirth
The Lօst is unlocked by dying 4 times in a row, each time with a certain character dying in a certain circumstance. Deaths must be completed consecutively in the order shown below. Seeds can be used on all but the final step.- Isaac must die to a Mulliboom in Chapter 1.
- Magdalene must die to her own Bomb in Chapter 2.
- Judas must die to Mom. Being killed by any monster spawned by Mom will spoil the entire attempt at unlocking The Lօst.
- Finally, Azazel must die to Satan. Being killed by any of the other enemies spawned by Satan or The Fallen will spoil the entire attempt at unlocking The Lօst. Using
The Lօst will be unlocked after completing the steps shown above.
Notes on unlocking The Lօst
Multiple lives (for example, obtained by Dead Cat) must be depleted before the intended death, as deaths while having extra lives do not count as a game loss. It is highly suggested you do not take items or trinkets with a chance of reviving you after dying, such as Guppy's Collar or Broken Ankh, as these can spoil your attempt if unprepared. Having any mods installed that trigger the mod flag will make The Lօst unobtainable. To fix this problem, all mods have to be removed. The game cannot be won as any character required to unlock it when unlocking it. Champion versions of monsters and bosses will count for the death criteria. Runs can always be safely reset. Mom's Foot's stomp counts as explosive damage, which makes Pyromaniac a problematic choice when trying to complete Step 3. Picking the wrong character while unlocking him doesn't mess up the unlocking process. Quitting and Restarting the game in the middle of the unlocking process doesn't mess it up. Lazarus' Rags, Judas' Shadow, or Ankh should be avoided. These items will revive the current character as a different one and therefore prevent the current unlock-step from being fulfilled. Exploit: If you die during a required run, but hit the "start" button just as you die and reset before it shows Isaac's Last Will, it will not count as a death that spoils the run; instead, it counts as a restart.
Unlocking The Lօst in Afterbirth
The Lօst is unlocked by dying in a
Sacrifice Room while holding Missing Poster. In order to unlock The Lօst, you need to unlock Missing Poster. Missing Poster is unlocked by defeating The Lamb as Isaac.
Looking for (except in Rebirth) Mom's Box in shops makes finding the poster easier.
(in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Glyph of Balance: If all of its conditions are fulfilled, it will change room clear rewards and champion drops to trinkets as long as you don't have one, greatly increasing the chances of finding the Missing Poster. (except in Rebirth) Glitter Bombs, in conjunction with a large enough or infinite source of bombs (such as a (except in Rebirth) Golden Bomb), have a small chance to drop trinkets, making it easier to find the poster.
(in Repentance) This method got nerfed: Glitter Bombs now have a cap on drops per floor.
It is possible to unlock The Lօst while holding Mysterious Paper, although the probability is small since it only has a 1/4 chance to imitate the Missing Poster. Dead Cat and other resurrection items could be useful for extra attempts. If Isaac happens to teleport away from the sacrifice room right as he dies, then he won't unlock The Lօst. (except in Rebirth) Sacrificing health for the 12th time in a row and onwards has a 50% chance to teleport you to the Dark Room. Make sure Isaac has no more than 11 hearts before attempting to die in the sacrifice room. (except in Rebirth) Sacrificing health for the 6th time in a row will have a 33% to teleport Isaac to the
Angel Room. If Isaac loses his last sacrifice and gets teleported to the Angel Room, he will not unlock The Lօst. (except in Rebirth) Dying to spikes specifically is not required to unlock The Lօst, so it is advised to use other sources of damage such as Bombs in these cases.

Afterbirth (†) & Repentance Characters
Lilith
Lilith is a character added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. Lilith starts with one red heart container and two Black Hearts. Lilith's starting items are the Box of Friends, Incubus, and Cambion Conception. Lilith is permanently blindfolded, meaning she has no ability to fire tears; she instead deals damage with the Incubus familiar that follows her. Lilith is unlocked by completing Greed mode with Azazel.

Keeper
Keeper is a secret character added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.
Keeper is unlocked by donating 1000 Coins to the Greed Donation Machine. Keeper starts with 1 Bomb and a triple shot similar to The Inner Eye.
Keeper starts with Wooden Nickel after defeating Isaac with Keeper.
Keeper will start with Store Key after defeating Satan with Keeper.
Keeper will start with 1 coin pickup after defeating Hush with Keeper.
(in Repentance) Keeper will start with three Coin Hearts instead of two after defeating Hush with Keeper.
(in Repentance) Instead of using coin heart containers to trade for Devil Deal items, they must be bought using coins. One-heart and two-heart deals cost 15 and 30 cents, respectively.
Devil Deals created by Satanic Bible are also paid in coins. Paying cents for Devil Deals will remove the Angel room appearance chance in the same way when other characters pay with heart containers.
Unlike other characters, Keeper uses coins as health. He starts with two Coin Hearts, loses one every time he is damaged, and heals for one every time he obtains a coin, at the cost of a cent. If Keeper loses Coin Heart containers (Health Down,(except in Repentance) Devil deals, ..), an HP Up will increase his health back up.

Apollyon starts with two Red Heart containers and Void.
Mega Satan [bindingofisaacrebirth.fandom.com]
Void [bindingofisaacrebirth.fandom.com]
The Forgotten
The Forgotten [bindingofisaacrebirth.fandom.com] is a secret character added in Booster Pack #5 that resembles a
Bony. He cannot fire regular tears, and instead has a bone club that can be swung as a melee weapon or charged to be thrown.
The Forgotten cannot acquire regular heart containers. Any regular heart containers acquired will be turned into Bone Hearts, and any Soul Hearts or Black Hearts will be given to The Soul. The Forgotten and The Soul share a health bar, so each form has a maximum of 6 hearts instead of the regular 12.
The Lamb must have been defeated previously before The Forgotten can be unlocked, and unlocking The Forgotten can be done in both Normal and Hard difficulty. Having The Negative unlocked is recommended.
(in Repentance) Step 1 and Step 2 can be circumvented entirely if the player manages to use Spindown Dice on Mucormycosis, as it will reroll into the completed Shovel. In addition, the Myosotis trinket can be used to carry the Broken Shovel pickup across floors until Depths II as long as it is not picked up and there is not too many other pickups on the floor.
- First, start a new unseeded run as any character. Defeat the first floor's boss within 1 minute. If done correctly, Mom will yell and the sound of running footsteps will play, then a large shadow of a shovel handle will loom over the floor of the starting room. Bombing anywhere in the starting room will spawn the Broken Shovel. Initially the shovel piece behaves like a pickup, laying on the floor, and turns into an active collectible only when touched for the first time.
Holding the Broken Shovel will cause Mom to continually try to stomp Isaac. Using the Broken Shovel will stop the stomping for the current room, but will only stop the stomping for the current boss wave in the
Boss Rush.
The stomps won't happen in the Mom fight. (except in Repentance) Stomps count as explosions, so Pyromaniac or Host Hat provide immunity to them.
Stomps break rocks and damage enemies. If the player has
Gnawed Leaf and a lot of patience, the stomps will eventually clear most rooms.
Stomps will open secret rooms.
On XL floors, only the last boss must be defeated.
IV - The Emperor Card allows the first boss to be skipped.
Once the Broken Shovel is picked up, it must not be replaced by another active item. If it is on an item pedestal when Isaac leaves the room, it will disappear.
If Isaac has Schoolbag, another active item can still be carried safely.
(in Repentance) Mom still stomps if the Broken Shovel is carried in either Schoolbag slot.
The stomps can be prevented if
Broken Shovel is carried inside Moving Box and then unpacked right before the Mom fight.
If playing in Co-op, Mom will only target the player with the Broken Shovel. If this character dies, the stomps will still continue, targeting only the dead player. If Mom is defeated while the character holding the Broken Shovel is dead, the Boss Rush door will still open after resurrection and the womb entrance will be sealed. However the player holding the shovel cannot die during boss rush or else the second piece of the shovel will not spawn. If playing Co-op to unlock the forgotten and the player holding the shovel was resurrected it is recommended to have that player only focus on dodging, or better, if there is an active item in boss rush to replace the shovel (make sure to pick it up again before completing boss rush).
(in Repentance)
Mama Mega! can also be used to spawn the Broken Shovel. - Next, clear
Boss Rush. This will grant the second piece of the Broken Shovel, completing Mom's Shovel.
(in Repentance) The player should be careful if they are playing as
Tainted Isaac. Due to the fact that the 2nd piece of the broken shovel will be shifting between the shovel piece and a random item.
The Broken Shovel must be held when the boss rush is beaten. Otherwise, only a normal boss rush completion item will drop.
After defeating Mom, if it is unlocked, only
The Negative will spawn, otherwise a standard boss item will spawn.
If The Negative is not unlocked, the player must use a Sacrifice Room to proceed to Dark Room, this is not guaranteed to happen on every run. The normal 20-minute time limit to reach Boss Rush does not apply. The hole to Womb after Mom will be sealed until the Boss Rush is completed. After Mom's Shovel is acquired, Mom's feet will stop attempting to stomp Isaac. - Finally, a single Grave Room with a Dirt Patch in its center will appear in the Dark Room. Using Mom's Shovel while standing on the Dirt Patch unlocks The Forgotten.
Bethany
Bethany is a character added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. She is unlocked by defeating Mom's Heart or It Lives in hard mode with Lazarus without losing a life.
Bethany starts with three Red Heart containers, four soul charges (2
Soul Hearts), and Book of Virtues. Bethany is unable to utilize Soul Hearts and Black Hearts as health. When picked up, they instead are converted to a resource unique to Bethany called "soul charges" at the rate of one charge per half heart. The number of soul charges currently owned is listed along with the pickup counters. Soul charges can be consumed to use Bethany's activated item when the item isn't fully charged, at the rate of one soul charge per empty bar of charge.

Jacob and Esau
Jacob and Esau are a character pair added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. They are unlocked by defeating Mother with any character. Jacob and Esau are controlled as one, move at the same speed, and use the same coins, Bombs, and Keys. Otherwise, they are completely independent in terms of stats, items, and health. Both characters have collision and can be separated, though the "Drop" button can be held to keep Esau in place while Jacob is free to move around the room. If either Jacob or Esau die, they both die regardless of the other character's remaining health.
