Overview
This guide will show you how to play as the Arch Clanker General Grievous, including star cards, abilities, and play style.
Intro
In this guide you will learn how to play as the Arch Clanker, in supremacy, galactic assault, and HvV, this guide includes my recommended star cards, the abilities Grievous has, how to use them, as well as the play style for Grievous
Star Card 1
The first star card I recommend using can be used in Supremacy, Galactic Assault, and HvV. Having increased health regeneration for heroes in any game mode is useful as staying alive with your heroes is a main priority. With this card at level 1, Grievous regenerates 275 health from the base 250 health, every level increases regeneration by 25 health, up to a maximum of 350.
Star Card 2
The second card I recommend using is Sith Trained, with this card Grievous gains more damage from his lightsabers and the cost of stamina. With this card equipped at base level, Grievous deals 145 damage from the front, and 175 damage from behind. The damage increases by 5 each level up to a maximum of 160 damage from the front, and 190 damage from behind. The total number of lightsaber swings Grievous can do before running out of stamina decreases from 12 to 10. The cost of stamina is worth the increase in damage as two lightsaber hits from the front can kill any base trooper if the health is not boosted, and two hits can kill any non health boosted trooper from the back, as well as dealing a lot of damage to enemy heroes.
Alternative Star Card 2
Sith trained can be replaced by ceaseless assault in HvV. This card will decrease the amount of damage Grievous takes from enemies while using his middle ability unrelenting assault at base Grievous receives 10% less damage, up 10% each level up to a maximum of 40%.
If you’re facing Obi-Wan or Anakin, with no damage increasing cards equipped, each hit they land on you will be dealt 78 damage, instead of the base 130, if attacked from behind you will be dealt 96 damage instead of the base 160.
If you’re facing Rey, for each hit landed on you from the front will deal 72 damage as opposed to 120; and each hit from behind will deal 84 damage instead of 140.
Against Yoda, each hit landed from the front will deal 75 damage as opposed to 125, and each hit from the back will deal 90 damage as opposed to 150.
Han Solo’s blaster will deal 48 damage instead of 80 at close range, and his detonite charge will deal 120 damage instead of 200 if Han does not have the air burst card equipped.
Lando’s blaster will deal 24 damage at close range as opposed to 40 damage, with sharpshot on Lando will deal 120 damage instead of 200.
Leia’s blaster will deal the same amount of damage as Lando’s, her alternate fire mode will deal 87 damage, as opposed to 145; and her grenades will each deal 150 damage as opposed to 250. Fin will deal roughly 31 damage close range as opposed to 52, and with his deadeye ability activated he will deal 18 damage as opposed to 30.
Chewbacca will deal 54 damage as opposed to 90, his furious bowcaster will deal roughly 110 damage unscoped as opposed to 182.5 and his furious bowcaster scoped will deal roughly 130 damage as opposed to 217. Chewbacca’s charge slam will deal 90 damage as opposed to 150 damage.
These numbers are for the maximum damage reduction at a level 4 star card.
Star Card 3
This star card I only recommend for Galactic Assault or Supremacy as you won’t be able to hit more than two heroes at once with claw rush most of the time in HvV. With this card at base Grievous deals 150 damage as opposed to 130 damage without it, the damage increases by 10 damage up to the maximum 180 damage at a level 4 star card. Remember that this bonus comes into effect after you hit one enemy and it will kill any base trooper besides heavy if they are not health boosted.
Alternative Star Card 3
The alternative third star card I recommend is mainly for HvV, the card flesh is weak reduces the amount of damage Grievous takes for every 10% of health missing. At base Grievous receives 2% less damage, this reduction is increased by 1% each level up to a maximum of 5%. The bonus starts to take place when Grievous is at 720 health and he gains an additional 5% bonus reduction each time he loses an additional 80 health. Since in HvV you will have more time generally to regen health than in Galactic Assault or Supremacy where you will be getting shot at more, healing at 25 health instead of 50 health isn’t that large of a crutch in HvV.
Abilities
The first ability Grievous has is his Thrust Surge, this ability makes Grievous thrust quickly forward to an enemy that is within 15 meters of you and deals 160 damage, this ability is most useful against heroes as it is hard to dodge and once activated will pretty much always hit the target, even if they jump or go around corners. This ability is also useful for dealing damage to lone troopers or special reinforcements as it will lunge you forward very quickly and knock them down if they don’t die, it is also possible to hit more than one trooper if they are close enough together.
The second ability, Grievous’s unrelenting advance, makes Grievous spin his lightsabers rapidly and deals 110 damage every half second, this ability will be active for a total of 5 seconds. This ability is best used against heroes, and any troopers that are close together in a semi-confined area, avoid using this ability in large open areas as it leaves you quite vulnerable to blaster fire.
The third and final Grievous ability is his claw rush. This ability is best used against troopers that are semi-close together in more open areas. Grievous is quite fast when this ability is active, with the line up, weaklings card you can deal devastating damage to any trooper if you did not kill them they will be close to death, this card will also knock enemies to the ground, troopers as well as heroes leaving them temporarily vulnerable to your lightsabers. When this ability is active and you’re crawling around if you crawl into an obstacle or wall you will automatically be taken out of the ability, so remaining in control of where you’re crawling is very important as to not cut the ability time short. The ability does have a short duration of 3.2 seconds but you can easily take out multiple enemies in one claw rush. In HvV this ability is best used to quickly deal damage to a hero, once you hit your target get out of the ability and start hitting them with your sabers.
Play Style
Grievous’s play style is pretty straight forward, since Grievous can’t deflect many blaster shots with his lightsabers it’s important that you keep moving, keep running and dodging, you gotta be kinda cunning with Grievous, playing around corners and getting close to his enemies since his abilities require you to be close to enemies in order to deal damage, you have to be pretty offensive with him, playing defensively with Grievous just isn’t really a possibility. Getting behind and close to your enemies is your best bet to surviving with Grievous. Since Grievous has lower blocking stamina than the Jedi you need to focus on his lightsaber attacks, if you’re going into a crowded area use his claw rush to your advantage, killing and knocking down any enemy quickly, than use your lightsabers to finish any enemies that are still alive, and then retreat into safety so your stamina can rebuild. If retreat is needed, just dodge back twice than use his claw rush to get further away from the enemies, if you’re facing Jedi they won’t be able to hit you with their sabers or abilities while crawling away and most troopers won’t be able to hit you with their blasters enough to deal a significant amount of damage to you.
Just try to keep in mind that Grievous is best used offensively unlike most Jedi, if you’re playing defensively, you need to keep moving as he can only deflect 222 damage from blaster before his stamina is drained, use your abilities to damage and kill enemies than fall back to safety and let your teammates finish anyone left with low health if you’re playing supremacy or galactic assault and you need to be defensive.
