Overview
The three most simple things to do that will get you that win.
Step 1 – Play the Objective
I can’t stress this enough. I have lost far too many games because people don’t capture the points. Often for no reason other than they are too focused on getting kills. If an enemy point is cleared of defenders go cap it. Do not rush off to the next enemy to get more kills and leave the point in control of the enemy. A perfect example of how this lost a match is when I was on one point lobbing missiles and artillery and it was 4 vs. 1 at the end. They won because the other 3 players did not capture any of the other 4 points.
Step 2 – Play the Objective
This is so important I’m listing it again.
Step 3 – Don’t Blindly Charge In (A.K.A. How to Use Cover)
Stay in cover as much as you can. When moving around the map try and move from one piece of cover to another. That said not all cover is created equal. Some attacks can and will rain down from above. Tunnels, bridges, and overhangs can mitigate this to some degree. Less direct hits and more of the lower splash damage from explosions. Another important point is when peeking out to fire try to expose only your weapons. Often you can get top mounted weapons to fire over cover without exposing any part of your mech but the weapon itself. The same goes for side mounted weapons. just stick the weapon out around the corner and not your whole mech. This will save you a lot of damage in the long run.
