Introduction to Classic CTF Mode

Classic CTF is basically like EVERY OTHER DAMN CTF MODE IN OTHERS GAMES.

In this mode, two things you need to know....

The Intel is a team colored briefcase.

The Home Base / Command Post looks like a green house with a Medical Cross on it and a team colored flag on top of it.

The Command Post also has a niftly feature of being able to restore your health, restore your ammo, and max out your block wallet!

Players have to take the enemy team's intel (the 'flag') and take it to their own Command Post while protecting their own intel and prevent it from getting captured.

The only class playable in this game mode is the Deuce guy who is equipped with a Classic Semi-Automatic Rifle, Classic Grenades, Classic Spade, and Block Tool.

There is the option of unlocking the Classic SMG and the Classic Shotgun but most servers have these 2 guns locked.

Intelligence....

It is extremely stupid to walk into enemy territory without having knowledge of who, what, and where...

Thus, to win any Classic CTF game mode you need Intelligence which is split up into several things.

1. Where the flag is - You obviously need to know where the enemy flag is to even attempt to steal it, this is easy as you can use the Map button (default: M) to see where the enemy Intel is.

2. Where the enemy spawn is - you need to avoid enemies as much as possible but you can use this knowledge with friends by making them spawncamp the enemy while you steal the flag.

3. Layout of the enemy base - Knowledge of the enemy's base can make or break any attempt at stealing their Intel...

and 4. Method of Insertion - how you attempt to get to the intel which is what we will talk about next!

Getting the Flag

Now that you have Intelligence on the who, the what, and the where, it's time for the action itself...

PREFERRABLY, when going into enemy territory, it is highly advised that you either tunnel or flank your way to the enemy base.

Each entry method has it's strengths and weaknesses.

Pros and Cons of Tunneling
Pros: Difficult to detect, make difficult terrain easy to traverse by going under it. Think Miner from the usual game modes.
Cons: Loud sounds from the Spade/Shovel can attract enemies who hear digging underneath them. Nearly impossible to avoid grenades, especially cooked grenades.

Pros and Cons of Flanking
Pros: Quiet unlike Tunneling, more free room to move and visibility, doesn't take as long as building a long tunnel.
Cons: Not as much total cover compared to Tunneling, an enemy could spawn near you and find you.

You can use a combination of both Tunneling and Flanking but use them wisely.

Tips and Tricks:

To help in Tunneling, use the Right Click button while using your Shovel to make it dig a player-sized hole, be warned that the right click digs slower but it removes more blocks.

When Tunneling, be sure to zigzag it to prevent "down-the-hall" sniping against you or your teammates.

To move quietly when using the flanking technique, press Left Alt and hold it to move quietly, but you'll move more slowly so use it well.

CRITICAL ADVICE: NEVER SHOOT ANY ENEMY UNLESS THEY'VE SPOTTED YOU.....
If you shoot an enemy who doesn't even know you're near/in the enemy base, they'll definitely know you're there and probably hunt after you the next time they spawn OR the enemy teammates will hear the sound of the shots, the death of their teammates, or both and will go investigate.

Do not waste your stealth just for a couple of free kills... ONLY kill enemies if they've spotted you and/or they are getting ready to shoot/kill you.

Gettin' Outta Dodge...

Alright, ya got the flag! Good job! Now you gotta get out of there!

Depending on which insertion method you used will ultimately show what excursion method you will use.

Tunneling-------------------------
If you infiltrated the enemy base through a tunnel, you really have no choice but to use that same tunnel.

When escaping through a tunnel, place blocks from head and/or torso sized to prevent taking too much damage.

This will force your enemy to shoot your legs, which won't do much damage enough to kill unless you're already at low health, or try to dig away the blocks to get after you.

If you've zigzagged your tunnel, like I advised in the previous section, then that'll make your escape about 3-5x alot easier.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Flanking-------------------------------------------
If you infiltrated the enemy base by flanking, then you must flank your own team to safely bring in the intel. Because flanking doesn't give you alot of total cover like Tunneling does, you have a higher chance of getting killed while carrying the flag BUT you also have a good area of seeing threats.

If you're an accurate shooter, flanking is a good method since u can outgun anyone chasing you.

If you're not a very good shot, the least you can do is place defensive blocks to prevent getting shot by enemies chasing after you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

whether you use both incursion methods or not, the last piece of advice I can give is that you RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN

To cap the intel flag, all you need to do is touch your Home Base/Command Post.

Countering Attacks

Now I've told you how to plan your method of getting the flag, getting the flag, and capturing the flag, now I'm going to tell you how to counter these methods that your enemy can use against you...

Building Effective Bases and Defenses

I can tell you how to build an effective base and other defenses but I already covered that in a previous guide - Basic & Advanced Building Guide for Classic Mode

Ways to Protect your Intel

Obviously the main focus in winning is by capturing your enemy's intel. Luckily there are easy ways to protect your intel....

CRITICAL ADVICE: NEVER BURY YOUR INTEL, BURYING YOUR INTEL IS A BAD IDEA. THE ENEMY CAN TUNNEL UNDER YOUR BASE AND GRAB THE INTEL AND RUN BEFORE YOU EVEN REALIZE. NOT TO MENTION THAT AN ENEMY CAN GRAB THE INTEL FROM 1-2 BLOCKS AWAY AND THEY CAN STEAL IT THROUGH BLOCKS...

If burying the intel is bad, what can you do then? Simple... Intel Towers!

When making an Intel Tower, you must meet these several attributes....
  • The tower must be hard to climb to prevent enemies from easily taking the intel
  • The center pillar must have support pillars to the side to prevent it being griefed by teammates or enemies easily.
  • The Supports must be adequately-spaced to allow your teammates to pass through and guard-inspect them.
  • No pillars in the tower should exceed a thickness of 2x2. Otherwise, the enemy can climb up inside.
  • Highly advised that, to help against griefing, you attach the intel tower to a part of a building or base.

For a visual help on making an intel tower, look at these pictures

If you've noticed, the intel tower does take some time to build which can leave you open to attacks. It's highly advised that an adequate base is built to help mitigate this.

Another way to protect your intel is to confuse the enemy is by making multiple intel-shaped colored blocks so it'll come out as a 2nd or more intel on the map. Yes this is basically trolling the enemy. :deuce:

To make a good intel-shaped block, start by making the intel insignia on the briefcase by using a black or VERY dark color

To easily make the briefcase borders, move 4 spaces for the left and the right and place a block on the 4th space with a 1-block space top and bottom.

To make the handle, simply go to the top of the briefcase and move 1 space from the side of the insignia, do the same with the other side as well and place 1 block to get a good measurement.

After that, add 3 more blocks vertically and do the same with the other side, then horizontally; then do the same and make a smaller 'handle' by leaving a 1-block space and the second handle should leave 2 spaces of block left.

After that, you can color ANY block within the black boundaries of the intel but remember to use your team's color to trick your enemy :)

MAKE SURE THE FAKE INTEL IS FACING THE CORRECT WAY ON THE MAP, OR ELSE IT'LL BE OBVIOUS
