I Love Punching for Psychonauts

I Love Punching

Overview

Simple guidelines to help get the achievement “I Love Punching”

Basic Guidelines

I Love Punching is an achievement that seems difficult, challenging, and sometime just a big pain in “Bleep”. This achievement is not as hard as bad as it seems though. I can testify that it got me annoyed but once I slowed down & followed some basic guidelines the final level was not as hard as it seemed at first. Here are some basic guidelines I read up online and it worked.

A. When doing the inner circle always get back into the center of the button.
This is imperative and the most important because Raz’s psychic punch reaches further than just what is directly in front of him. There is no need to run right up the target when they appear in the inner circle.

B. Use the basic direction keys the most.
This is important with keyboard & mouse players because a person with a controller has a bit of an advantage. The basic up, down, left, right is mostly all that is needed when punching in the inner circle. This may seem odd but the targets in the inner circle are so close to each other that if a target in the top left corner of the circle comes up, Raz’s punch will accomplish the blow with either up punch or left punch. Simple terms, Raz’s punch is broad not narrow.

C. Use a save slot for basic braining punching game when you start a new game.
This is important because sometimes later in the game, when you come back to the mini-game it bugs/glitches out and won’t further the challenge. This has happened to me on a couple occasions so the point is the save the punching mini-game in the very beginning so whatever causes it to glitch can be avoided early on.

D. Set up keys to you dominate hand.
The basic setup in most games is W, A, S, D. This is usually good for fast left handed people. Right handed people sometimes benefit from the numeric keypad 8, 4, 6, 2. The action key “punch” should be the opposite hand so a left handed person may benefit from r ctrl as action and right handed may work with the left ctrl.

E. Ignore the mouse/camera
There is a default angle/view the camera goes to when the game starts. Try to get used to it and practice with that angle.

F. Restart round if too many are missed
If you start to miss too many half way or in the beginning of the round, do a super slam punch to hit the button. The game will stop and you can reset. If you keep punching and know you are going to lose then either take it as practice and not let it get to you.

Overall, these are simple guidelines that worked for me and may work for you. The vital guideline that helped me the most was getting back into the center of the inner ring after every target. Raz’s punch is broad so using that to your advantage in the center of the inner ring is important. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
