Increasing your chances of winning at the Spinning Wheel for Stardew Valley

Increasing your chances of winning at the Spinning Wheel

Overview

This guide isn’t the optimal way of gaining Star Tokens, but made for those who likes the idea of implementing a legitimate betting system into the wonderful game that is Stardew Valley.

What?

For those of you who have put some time into Stardew Valey, you’ve probably explored the Stardew Valley Fair.
The Stardew Valley Fair is a fair that takes place the 16h of fall every year.
There are different activities including an activity called “Spinning Wheel” which works sort of like roulette, where the green color has been removed.
There are several ways to win, and lose, and some ways are better than others. You can go all-in and bet a random color, and be lucky. This is a high-risk, high-reward situation, where you could screw up and spend even more time trying to gain back your losses doing misc. activities.
You could also win by playing the system, or atleast increase your chances. I came across a system called martingale while trying to increase my gains in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. By implementing the martingale-system into the game, you can increase your chances of winning.

Why?

By betting you can increase your chances of multiplying your tokens. The tokens are used for buying different things at the Shop, like your own Fedora, tipping intensifies, Dried Sunflower for your home, one of the 8 Rarecrows and a Stardrop potion that empowers you on purchase.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, why the hell would we implement “complex” betting systems into a simple game like Stardew Valley? Well, look at it this way, you could spend approximately 30+ mins of fishing to gain your tokens, or spend ??x minutes of betting. Fishing is a sure thing, and if you’re good, you can get around 200+ points per 2 minutes. Betting is more fun and thrilling, and sort of adds excitement to the game. It’s always fun to try your luck, and the good thing is that you don’t even lose real money, it’s only fictional funds!
Basically there is no real reason for using this, other than having some fun, learning a legit betting system and preparing for your inevitable pilgrim bachelor party in Vegas.

How?

So the system is pretty simple.
Let’s assume you have 500 star tokens.
What you want to do is a pick a low number, that is substantial enough for you to gain something, but isn’t too high to keep your loss at a minimum (you will have to multiply your bets.)
At the spinning wheel there are two colours, Orange and Green.
Too simplify this guide we’re gonna call “Total amount of Tokens” T, “Total bet amount” B and “Total winnings amount” W.
I’m gonna show you how a typical bet would look like:

    T: 500

  • Bet 20 on Orange
  • Wheel lands on Green
  • T: 480, B: 20, W:0

So now you’re down 20, and what you want to be doing now is doubling your bet. This is why we started with a low bet.
    T: 440

  • Bet 40 on Orange
  • Wheel lands on Green
  • T: 440, B: 60, W:0

You want to be persistent with your colour, so you play the statistical odds.
Yet again we double the bet.

    T: 520

  • Bet 80 on Orange
  • Wheel lands on Orange
  • T: 520, B: 140, W:160

So now we won back our loss + we gained a profit of the equivalent of our initial bet.

This is basically how the system works. By putting in a bet and doubling it, we will inevitably gain profits, as long as we have the funds to keep trying.

Final words and Sources

I hope you enjoyed the guide and I hope it was useful.
I know it’s sort of an unnecesarry guide, but Stardew Valley can get a bit grindy in the long run, and trying out different things could be fun. I also like the idea of implementing different, totally unrelated things to a game about running a farm. So why not try to bring gambling into it? It has never hurt anyone, right?
