Overview
This guide shall give players to give information about the regulary halloween event, the Infected. This guide summarizes what the Infected are, how they can be obtained and what they are useful for.
Introduction
Hey, you might know me from my other guide about the basics of Battle Nations. This guide is targeted to players who don’t know the Halloween event and what it is for. I except that you know at least some general basics about the game to understand it (otherwise you don’t even need to know about the Infected). If you lack some information you can look at my guide: [link]
What is this event actually? The Infected Invasion is a limited time event that happens every time around halloween. It begins at mid-october and ends most of the time with Halloween and the occuring boss strike there.
During the Event you have an increased spawn rate of special enemy types, called the Infected. They are mutated, zombie-like infantry units that fits the theme of halloween. If you defeat such enemies you have a chance to obtain a rare resource called “Black Nanopod” tha is tied to the infected and needed to get your own. I will come to that later.
The main part of the invasion is to defeat a lot of them, obtain black nanopods and create your own infected units. You can also use it to get a lot of SP if you want.
The story behind the Infected
This is only for people that want to understand what has happened behind the scenes and how it has come to infected units. If you are not interested int his kind of stuff, head on to the next section of the guide.
At some point during the war between the empire and the rebellion, the empire realized that it gets harder and harder to fight the rebels and resources get smaller and smaller. Esspecially the precious resource “Nanopods” is needed to heal soldiers immidiatly on the battlefield so they can go on fighting. To make up for the slim reserves they started in a secret laboratory a project to create multiple nanopods from a single nanopod. The artificially created nanopods are however black and wounded soldiers startet to mutate and were very aggressive because a part of their brain was missing.
The labotary experimented with the nanopods but like in any zombie movie everything goes wrong, the mutants break free, destory the lab and attack their surroundings including the outpost of the player.
Floyd eventually finds out the reason for the mutation of the soldiers and Morgan tells him that he shall make a clinic where they can infect their own soldiers as secret weapon against the rebels.
The infected are however attracted to the growing masses of black nanopods which the outpost gathers and start to invade them, creating the invasion.
Also wild animals that find black nanopods eat them because they don’t know what they are, creating new types of infected.
Basics about the Invasion
During the time of the event players at level 15 and higher will notice a rapid growth of occupations from Infected.
Defeating an occupation gives you in some cases a black nanopod. You can gather multiple nanopods to create other stuff.
For 10 nanopods you can create traps that atrract even more infected. Or you can create one normal nanopod but this takes about 18 hours.
Another option and this is the one most favour, is to create your own Infected.
Infecting units is not a light issue, you have to understand some basics. You have to understand that a unit that you infect is lost. This means you sacrifice a unit and will get it never back.
Units are infected in an Infeciton Test Facility.
You will never be sure what you get, infecting a unit gives you a totally random infected in return. So infecting something that has a big weapon will not give you a cannoneer for an example.
Infected are divided in 5 classes. Proto, Normal (has no prefix), Advanced, Arch and Apex. Not all infected are among all classes but most rank between these. Proto is the weakest form of the infected (it’s a “prototype”) while Arch is the strongest form. Apex is a special form with new abilities and not only stronger stats making them the ultimate form of an infected.
To get better infected you have to sacrifice better units. The rank of your unit is irrelevant, what actually counts is the level at which you can obtain this unit. A general rule is “down in your barracks is good, up in your barracks is bad”. Not every unit is infectable, you can check if a unit can infected on the stat screen. If its describtion says “infection canditate” you can infect them. All nanopod/premium units cannot be infected. And of yourse infected themselve can also not get infected. Vehicles, Planes and other stuff can also not get infected (how would that even be possible).
Before you can infect a soldier you have to “loose” it meaning you need id defeated in battle, injured, ready on your hospital. But instead of healing him you go with him to the Infection Facility and use 5 black nanopods on him creating a new soldier.
There are two animals that can also get infected, raptors and bigfoots. Besides that they are animals they behave like every infected, let them die in battle, use them in the facility, test your new unit.
The Infected (Part 1)
Like I said before, Infected are divided in 5 classes. The difference between the classes is only the the higher class has better stats, so they are stronger. The Apex however have also different attacks and a unique design making them the ultimate battle form of an infected. Apex units can however not be obtained on normal ways (infecting soldiers) and are special.
Unrelated to the type of infected they all have something in common. They all have infinite bravery (they are “Zombies” after all) meaning they suffer never supression and they are vulnerable to the fire damage type.
I should also mention that you can only use up to 3 infected units in a battle.
The following infected are aviable (all pictures are from the Arch version of the unit):
Specimen A: The Bullfrog
The Bullfrog is a crowd control unit that spits acids that deal damage over time to a large group of enemies. Its first attack has a cross pattern and can only targeted in the back and middle row but the huge splash radius and the damage over time make it a good weapon against larger enemy groups. The initial damage is not very high but it is designed to fight agains bigger groups of weaker enemies. Multiple Bullfrogs can be very painful for your enemy. Its second attack, weak cough, is much weaker but can target the front row. It has also a smaller splash radius attacking only on unti and another in the back of that unit. Both attacks can also attack air units.
Specimen B: The Creeper
Overall the weakest of all Infected you want to avoid this as many times as possible. The Creeper is a front line unit with a weak attack and lacks some defenses to get a chance to survive. With 200 HP on Arch this unit will die most of the time very soon and should only be used as sacrificable unit otherwise it is a waste. Its attack deals around 70-120 damage but can NEVER crit and is therefor useless. This is the worst result you can get.
Specimen C: The Cannoneer
For some odd reason this infected grow a cannon OUT OF ITS CHEST! Cannoneers are strong units that act similiar to tanks but without the armor. They act as tank cannons from the middle row. They can deal a large amount of damage to a single unit and with 60% armor piercing and 45% crit chance against tanks they are best used against heavy armored units like tanks or other vehicles. Don’t underestimate them, if they can deal a critical hit they can deal over 300 damage making them dangerous foes and useful allies.
Speicmen D: The Stalker
The Stalker is an anti-infantry unit designed to deal quickly with unarmored units. It can however be also a tough enemy for tanks. How you use it is very situational. If you deploy him in the front row he will deal with tanks, if you deploy him in the last row he will deal with infantry. This is because of the difference of his attacks. The first attack is a melee atack that targets three units directly in front of him. This attack is very strong, has an armor piercing of 90% and gets 20% crits on tanks. The second attack is targetable but can only hit the back row and ONLY if he is himself in the backrow. This attack is weaker as the first attack but has a 40% crit chance against infantry which is very powerful. Since he can be used in two different ways he is a good multiple use unit that backs up every army.
Specimen E: The Colossus
This special unit is hard to get. You will have only a small percent chance to get every a Colossus. Also there does not exist only a normal Colossus and an Apex version, so you will always get the same type of Colossus from an infection.
The Colossus is the strongest of all infected, he has two attacks that are both targetable but can only get used in the front row. The first attack creates a shockwave that travels from the first unit it hits back to the front row in one line, dealing huge damage to three enemies. The second attack hits three units in the front row (similiar to the Stalker) and has a small chance of 40% to stun the targets. Both attacks deal 100-200 damage and with crits this goes up to 200-400! Another good thing about the Colossus is that he is very tanky and has some good defenses along some armor that protects him. This armor protects him even from fire (however, his normal HP still suffer the usual weakness) making him the best thing you can get from infections.
Specimen F: The Hunter
The Hunter is currently the only flying Infected making him the first trainable air unit ever aviable. he is average in his stats but makes this up with the fact that he is only targetable by a small portion of units. he works also great as anti-air unit, dealing good with enemy planes. GHis first attack can attack both air units and land units with a 20% crit chance against air units and vehicles but 0%crit against everythign else. the second attack can only attack air units but he attacks three at once grouped together in one row. This attack has however no crit chance. The last attack has a very short cooldown and can be used only on land units. Like I said before, its strength is not so high but as a flying unit you can use it good against enemies that have no anti-air attacks.
Specimen G: The Shredder
This one is an infected raptor and can only be obtained if you infect a raptor. The outcoming type is always random so you can never be sure if you get a proto or an arch Shredder. The Shredder is, like the raptor, designed to be good against infantry and other animals. With 60% armor piercing he is however also a threatful foe for armored enemies. Both attacks deal high damake and have a base crit of 20%. The first attacks deals damage to three units standing close to each other, the second attack can only target a single unit. He deals 35% crits against animals and on his second attack 25% on infantry. The second attack is special in his behaviour because it has no cooldown whatsoever and also uses no ammo. This means you can use the attack infinitly and combined with the high armor piercing and crit chance this makes this attack very powerful. An Arch Shredder is a powerful unit for your army. Since the Shredder is the stronger version of a raptor you should always turn all your raptors into Shredder.
Specimen H: The Crawler
This is the very reason why you should be afraid of spiders. This eight legged terror has three attacks. The first attack deals only weak damage but has a high chance of 85% on a single unit making it good to delay enemy attacks. With the second attack teh Crawler attacks thee times in a row a single unit and deals devatasting damage on it. It has a base crit of 15%, 50% armor piercing and gets a crit bonus on animals and infantry.
The last attack deals more damage and has a bigger range but has also a longer cooldown and the basic crit chance of 5%.
This unit is good against infantry and smaller vehicles and its high stun chance make it good against powerful units that you don’t want to let attack. trust me, 85% IS high and you ill rarely find something better in stun.
The Infected (Part 2)
Specimen I: The Mauler
The Mauler is the infected version of the Bigfoot. Like the Shredder the Mauler is a stronger version of itself and its advised to upgrade all of your bigfoots. Unlike the Shredder however you can also get a Colossus out of it and the chance to get one is 15%.
Maulers have three attacks, the first attack deals big damage in the entire front row. The second attack deals even more damage but only to a single target. There is however a 50% chance of poison, adding even more damage to the attack. The last attack is used for croud control. It attacks in a checker pattern twice, dealing huge damage. This attack has also 85% armorpiercing, making it good agains armored enemies. The last attack has however no chance of crits and a long cooldown. Still the Mauler, especially in a group, is very powerful and can defeat groups of enemies really fast.
The Apex
Since the Apex are special types of Infected they deserve their own section.
Apex infected can not be obtained via the normal infection process. They are rewarded for Boss Strikes or in future updates maybe for other cases.
Currently there exist only three types of Apex units and all three of them are powerful.
Apex Bullfrog
This one is very powerful. it has an enhanced splash damage that targets almost the entire field, dealing huge damage on the first unit it hits and reduced on every other unit. The Apex Bullfrog is probably the best crowd control unit you will find because of its huge damage, the huge splash range, the poison effect and the fact that it can even has has a lot of HP for a back row unit. It is however still very suqishy and can easily get killed if it is targeted.
The Apex Bullfrog will be a backbone of your army if you fight multiple waves of enemies like in boss strikes for an example.
Apex Stalker
This one has specialed its situational form even further, creating three different forms of back row attacks. The first can freeze enemies and has a large crit chance vs infantry. It can however only attack infantry and critters with it. The second one has a 50% of stun, big stun chance against tanks and artillery and can only target vehicles. The last one can set enemies on fire, has a big crit chance against animals and can target only infantry and animals. this means that each one of the attacks is specialized on different enemy types (infantry, vehicles, animals) and therefore very good against specific enemies. It cannot target air units and that’s the only unit type where it lacks.
It still has the powerful front row slash attack that is even stronger as its Arch counterpart.
Apex Colossus
This is the ultimate Infected, the Apex Colossus. Despite its first attacks are weaker than its normal counterpart, the stun attack has an increased stun chance of 60% (compared to the 40% of the normal colossus). It has also an unique third attack that deals huge amount of damage in a checkered pattern in the first two rows. Another good feature of it is that it is very strong armored, has a big amount of hp and good defenses.
It is also rather cheap to heal, costing only gold and iron. The Apex colossus is one of the most powerful units in the game and if you own one you can call yourself lucky.
