Overview
A detailed descripion on how to play Murnatan!
Introduction
Murnatan is a first person shooter featuring two opposing teams, humans and aliens. Both teams are able to build structures such as spawn points, which are vital to their victory. The goal of Murnatan is to eliminate the opposing team and all of their spawn points.
Each team in Murnatan differs fundamentally from the other. The aliens are class based, with two classes initially available: the alien team’s builder, known as the Granger, and the Pitin, the weakest offensive alien. The aliens are awarded frags for killing their foes which may be used to evolve into stronger classes, capable of greater and more varied maneuvers. In contrast the human team is upgrade based, receiving credits for kills that may be exchanged at an Armoury structure for new weapons, armour and equipment. Two such upgrades are available for free: a rifle and a construction kit, used for building structures.
During a game of Murnatan, each team occupies one of three stages of development. These stages are reached by accruing more than a specific total number of kills by the whole team. Each new stage unlocks new classes, upgrades and buildable structures. If one team reaches a stage significantly earlier than the other team it stands a better chance of defeating the opposing team.
Classes, weapons, and things to build – Aliens
Two classes are available upon joining the alien team: the Dretch and the Granger. As you gain kills, you may use your earned frags to evolve into higher classes with the Use Structure/Evolve button. The alien team is mostly limited to melee attacks and must use stealth and speed to defeat the longer range humans. All aliens automatically regenerate health at a slow rate.
Pitin
Basic alien attacker with mighty blow, but also very fragile.
Granger
Unarmed builder and basic type of an alien.
Adv. Granger
Advanced version of builder, that can defend itself and climb the walls.
Grabit
This alien can paralyze enemies and throw acid bomb, that damages both humans and buildings. Can climb the walls and swim fast.
Adv. Grabit
Same athlete as Grabit, but adds gas attack that can daze humans.
Mur
Flying alien, that can climb the walls as well. Also a leacher, that heals himself when damaging humans.
Adv. Mur
It’s a Mur with ability to drop a cocoon and complicate human movement with it.
Narbatucker
Fast runner and wall jumper.
Adv. Narbatucker
Basically a Narbatucker, who can attack with electric bolt.
Pum
Can move very fast due to long jumps and knocks down enemies while doing it.
Adv. Pum
Still fast jumping human knocking Pum, but now equipped with throwing balls, which are useful for destroying base at distance.
The Tyrant
Attacks by either slashing with the Primary Attack button or trampling with Secondary Attack. To trample, first hold down the Secondary Attack button while moving forward to charge up, then release to run at high speed for a short time, damaging anything in your path.
All alien structures must be built in proximity to an Egg or an Overmind. All alien structures require the presence of an Overmind to function. All alien structures create ‘creep’ around their bases that slows human movement. When destroyed, alien structures explode in a shower of acid harmful to humans. All structures may be built on level floors and when Advanced Grangers become available some structures may also be built on walls and ceilings.
The Overmind
The Overmind (also somtimes called om) is the collective consciousness that controls all the alien structures in a map and enables aliens to evolve into higher forms. There can only be one Overmind and it must be alive before any other structures can be built. If the Overmind is destroyed then all structures besides Eggs cease to function and every alien loses the ability to upgrade their class until a new Overmind is built. The Overmind has a limited amount of ‘sentience’ which is distributed amongst every other structure built, each having its own cost.
Egg
Gives birth to the new alien and at the same time it also supports nearby buildings, same way as Overmind.
Tube
Basic attack building, that exhales acid into environment and damages everything except aliens.
Barricade
Effectively blocks any entrance or corridor for the humans, while aliens can past through. Also damages humans when touched.
Trapper
An inconspicuous building, that can shoot a projectile on enemy and paralyze him for a while.
Booster
Speeds up healing of aliens when they touch it and gives them temporary poison attack.
Chobo
After human gets close to this building, it will start either suck him closer or blow away (depends on how the building is set), making movement more difficult.
Hovel
A hideout for Granger, an alien builder. He can jump inside and wait until danger (e.g. attack on home base) passes.
Hive
A wasp nest that releases a swarm, which tries to follow and kill enemies.
Bush
Camouflaged walk-through building that is not dangerous, until it’s destroyed. After that it releases a cloud of poison.
Jump Pad
This building pushes up anybody who steps on it. You can add up the power of push if you put one Jump Pad on another. With a little practise you can even use them for fast ground travel.
Web
Web, that complicates access to alien base. Can be destroyed only with particular weapons.
Bamboo
A plant used for defending base, because it can deflect projectiles from energetic weapons.
Flower
A nice decoration, that can also daze humans and make them less focused.
Flag
Banner used for marking of territory and/or provoking the enemy with own funny/rude messages that you can write on it.
Poster
Works similar to flag, but unlike it you can stick poster on anything.
Rock
Support building for improving your home base. Use for better fortification.
Brick
Support building for improving your home base. Good for sticklers and patient builders.
Bridge
Support building for improving your home base. Helps in making of footbridges and floors.
Grass
Support building for improving your home base. Useful for masking and covering important stuff in the home base.
Tree
Support building for improving your home base. Great for making of your own jungle or for good cover against attack from Jet Packs.
Classes, weapons, and things to build – Humans
Humans may spawn with either the Construction Kit or the Rifle. As credits are earned, humans may sell their old upgrades and purchase new ones at an Armoury structure. Ammo may be refilled for normal weapons at Armouries, or at Reactors and Repeaters for energy weapons, all at no cost. Players may only carry one weapon at a time, excluding the Blaster. In general the humans rely on long range weapons to make up for their lack of mobility relative to the alien team.
Construction Kit
Ok, it’s not exactly a “weapon”, but a thing capable of building an entire human base may not be “just a tool” either. Construction Kit is used for construction, repair and destruction of buildings (plus it also can heal humans).
Blaster
Basic backup gun. It’s slow, but also free, with unlimited ammo and battery, so just take it, alright? At least helps a bit if you are afraid of dark.
Rifle
Basic free gun which comes with one free advice: “Use it for making enough credits and buy a better gun”.
Chain Saw
Very useful for quick destroying of alien buildings. Warning: sometimes there could be a problem to start it, so be careful.
Shotgun
No surprise here; the more powerful it is in close combat, the more waste of ammo it is for a long distance.
Rapidgun
The mediocre power is balanced by good accuracy and zero need of magazines.
Sniper Rifle
Very slow reloading. But then it shoots it is powerful and precise.
Minigun
A modification of well known M134 gun. The common use is that you aim on something and then absolutely destroy it.
Plasma Rifle
Slow energetic projectiles might look like lazy horizontal elevators, but might not be funny at all, if you underestimated them. It’s accurate and mighty base cleaner.
Flamer
Very complicated and dangerous weapon, especially for the (inexperienced) owner. It’s possible to adjust efficiency and reach of the flame.
Hell Launcher
The ultimate weapon, that allows both rocket jumps and/or very easy suicides. Because it basically destroys and kills everything it hits, it’s also the best option for devastation of own base, if you combine it with the hands of clumsy person.
Grenade
Very powerful grenade, that has “put into alien base” in its manual.
Mine
Slightly less powerful than grenade, but much more surprising. Can be set up for approaching enemy and blows when he gets close.
Flare
Lightens dark halls, shines in caves, but also soils view with smoke and burn your feet a bit if you step on it.
Basic armour
Significantly improves durability of a fragile human. Practically necessary when leaving home base.
Battle Suit
Plate armour that provides maximum protection, but also rules out the use of some other equipment.
Helmet
Besides it obviously covers your head, it contains a very useful radar, which shows enemy nearby forces and buildings.
Battery Pack
Another pack of batteries increases energetic weapons magazine capacity.
Jet Pack
Allows humans to make a slow, controlled flight.
Medkit
Medkits are a free holdable given to every human upon spawning and refilled at Medistations to players with full health. They may not be refilled or exchanged at Armouries. When used with the Activate Upgrade button, Medkits immediately begin restoring health at a slow rate, gradually speeding up until all damage incurred before the Medkit was activated is healed.
All human structures must be built in proximity to a Reactor or a Repeater. With Nodes as the only exception, all structures require the presence of a working Reactor to function. All human structures explode in a powerful blast harmful to anything within their radius when destroyed.
Reactor
Main building that provides energy to all nearby structures. No building works without energy.
Node
Node is a birthing centre for new players. It takes a time until node delivers new player, so the more players it is in the team, the more Nodes will come handy and should be build. Without this building it will be a very short game for humans.
Turret
Basic defence structure with an infinite ammo. Turret automatically detects enemies in range, aims and shoots at them. One turret is not a real danger, even the smallest alien can just walk around it. But with more turrets comes the real power.
Tesla
Advanced defensive unit. Also detects enemies in range, but it doesn’t need to aim first – it simply attacks in all directions with electric charge. Needs a Security System in order to be functional though.
Armoury
A shopping mall where humans buys all the equipment, that they lose immediately after their death.
Medi Pad
Medi Pad is a very useful building. It’s basicaly your field hospital, if a hospital was a stain on the ground and instead of waiting in the scary-big queue of sick people it would heal you immediately after you step on it.
Security System
Support building for Tesla. It also improves Turret and reports to humans when the base is under attack.
Repeater
Lengthens the energy reach of Reactor, so it’s possible to build and humanize even the far areas of the map.
Flag
Banner used for marking of territory and/or provoking the enemy with own funny/rude messages that you can write on it.
Poster
Has the similar function like flag, but unlike it you can stick poster on anything.
Elevator
Forget the ropes and cogwheels. This object makes small antigravity field, that allows you to levitate and therefore go up and down.
Engine
A motor that is activated on touch, after which it elevates the load.
Fence
Serves in the making of electric fence, that helps you defend your base against alien raids.
Crate
Support building for improving your home base. Really good for basically anything, but especially stairs.
Plank
Support building for improving your home base. Good for small bridges, barriers and building protection from above.
Pillar
Support building for improving your home base. Good for making entrances, doors and towers.
Brick
Support building for improving your home base. Suitable for small details or do spiteful things to aliens (e.g. blocking of narrow shafts)
Container
Support building for improving your home base. Useful for blocking absolutely anything.
