Overview
as you have probably already noticed, the same types of islands show up in every world in shipwrecked, and some are better to base in than others.this guide aims to explain what type’s of islands exist (excluding common/normal islands), and what they are good for.note that sometimes islands generate “on top of each other”, and because of that, generate big/weird islands. some islands may also differ from world to world.please tell me if i have written any “false” information, or anything i missed. please note that engish isnt my main language, and spelling mistakes may occour.this guide is based on my own personal experience, and the guide is not done, as i need more pictures, and any island types i’ve missed.and dont tell me: “merms arent dangerous”, “its good to be insane”, “bee’s can be kited easely” and such, just because you are good at the game, as this guide is for players who know the basics of the game, but not necessarily have reached endgame, and killed all bosses without getting hit.so lets get startet:
example
i’ll write about the island here, and what they are good for, with more information further down
* = stars, the more the harder, the more the better
pro’s
- here i’ll list the pro’s if choosing this island as your base location
cons:
- here i’ll list the cons if choosing this island as your base location
difficulty: how hard is it to survive on this island
size: how big is the island, the more stars, the bigger
grading: how beneficial it is to make your base on this island
notes: ekstra notes, for eksample if this island is a super bad/good choice for certain characters
starting island
the starting island always contain limpet rocks, and its made of beach biome and jungle biome, and no other biomes. sometimes there will be some pig houses, spider dens, and rarely some beehives. there is never golden boulders. the island can vary in size.
pro’s
- limpet rocks, crabbit dens
- usually big
con’s
- no con’s
difficulty: ***
grading: ***
size: **, *** or ****
notes: nothing special, you always find it, because you start on it. (if you make a RoG and travel to shipwrecked with the seaworthy, it can be hard to find).
mushroom island
this island has abundant mushrooms of every type, and it can be hard setting up base without digging some of them.
you should be able to harvest extreme amounts in the hurricane season, but be sure to have lightning rods to protect all the fungi.
pro’s
- lots of mushrooms to maintain your sanity and health, plus a lot of crockpot filler’s
con’s
- you have to remove the fungus to make your base bigger, which prevents you from benifitting from the mushrooms.
difficulty: **
grading: ***
size: ***
notes: probably one of the best island’s for making base near it, because of the abundance of fungus. if choosing this island for your base location, you should have plenty of mushrooms for sanity management, but you have to remove some to make your base, which makes it better to just make base on a nearby island.
berry island
this island has many berry bushes, which you shouldnt dig to move closer to your base, because if you dont move them, they wont require fertilizer
pro’s
- lots of food
con’s
- no noticeable cons, except if you move the berrybushes, there’s no point of choosing this island over other’s
difficulty: **
grading: ***
size: ***
notes: the berry island makes for an easy start, but dont really give any advantages in later game.
(im not quite sure if this is just some kind of setpiece, or an actual island type)
evil island
the evil island is a jungle/swamp island full of evil flowers and some killer beehives.
pro’s
- one of the few islands that can have evil-flower-farms
- swamp contains reeds
con’s
- swamp is dangerous
- evil flowers will make you insane fast
- killer bees attack when you come close to their hives
difficulty: *****
grading: ***
size: ***
notes: this island is best avoided, and setting up base on it can be really hard, as you will be insane, unless you pick the evil flowers, wich will also make you insane. the killer bee hives can be hard to clear out, and offers no real bee’s to catch, only killer bees. the swamp can also be dangerous, but contains reeds, wich can be useful. this island is best avoided, unless you are good at the game, and can handle being insane.
merm island
this island usually consist of a rather random biome, and a really big swamp, with many merm and fishermerm huts. because of the many fishermerm huts, the merm huts should just be hammered down as they serve no purpase, except being a threat to the player the player. the reeds is also a bonus. you will probably not starve if you live on this island, and its rather big so you should have no problems making a base.
pro’s
- lots of fishermerms
- lots of reeds
- poisonios holes
- big
con’s
- lots of merms
- poisonios holes
- flups
difficulty: ****
grading: *****
size: *****
notes: this island is huge! you’ll probably never starve, because of the many fishermerms. beware of the merms though, as there will be many, and can kill players if not dealt with. anyway, hammering down merm houses (fishermerm houses should be left) will yield a board, a fish and a stone, which can make for a big base earlier
it is not recommended that you settle on this island before you are good at kiting, because of the many threats.
lake island
in one of the islands in your world, there will be a lake, wich contains a shoal, but the lake is very small, so there wont be room for many fish farms, or whatever you want to fill up your lake with.
pro’s
- the lake can be used to contain sea resources close to your base, like tar slicks, fish farms or even seaweed
- you can fish in the shoal
- if ballphin palace’s is built in the lake, they wont “run away”
con’s
- the lake is small
difficulty: ***
grading: ***
size: **
lake
sometimes an island will have a weird form, or is merged with another island, and this can form what i call a “lake”, a small shallow water inside the island. this is my personal favorite island type, as you can place ocean-stuff inside the lake, you can even have a dogfish as a pet. the lake can vary in size, from very small, to more than half the island.
pro’s
- you can place ocean stuff in the lake
- mobs that spawn in the lake is trapped inside your island
con’s
- the lake can take a big chunk of land
- the lake can slow down travelling in the base, as you have to either walk around it, or sail over it
difficulty: ***
grading: ***
size: ** or *** this island can have varying size’s
notes: the lake can be used to have ocean-stuff in the middle of the base, instead of around it, but the lake is probably best used for decoration.
an unusually big lake i found:
even starting islands can have lakes
mangrove lake
another variant of the lake, this island consists of a beach with a patch of jungle and a meadow, with a mangrove in the middle, that acts as a lake.
pro’s
- same as lake, having sea resources in a fancy lake, with the added benefit of easy acces to twigs, logs and grass, that doesnt wither during dry season.
con’s
- same con’s as lake, you have a big chunk of you island you have to travel around.
difficulty: **
grading: ***
size: ***
notes: the mangrove trees is a good source of twigs during early game, and the manggrove means you dont have to make ice flingomatics during dry season, to have acces to twigs and grass.
skull
the skull is a set piece that shows up in every shipwrecked world. it consists of a skull, located in jungle biome, sometimes at the edge, and sometimes “inside” the jungle. made of magma turf, and surrounded by sand (turfless). it has eyes made of golden magma piles, which can contain krisures, which can be used as light source, but can also set things on fire. in the “mouth”, there is a single sapling.
pro’s
- krisures can provide free light, and cook your food.
- jungle biome, which can contain snake infested viney bushes, be sure not to dig up these, as they can provide lots of snake skin from spawning snakes.
con’s
- krisures can set your base on fire, if you are not careful
- strong winds can push stuff around, possibly to a krisure, that can set it on fire. this can be very dangerous if the strong winds blows the burning item into your base. encasing the krisures with stone walls, or better yet, sandbags, can stop this from being a problem.
difficulty: ****
grading: ****
size: *****
notes: the skull is usually located on a big island. the krisures can greatly help one, with free light. the reason why the skull better than normal magma biomes, is that the krisures is in specific locations, not spread all over the place, making them easier to control. if you find the right map in a bottle, opun reading it, an x marks the spot will be created at the “nose”. this chest contains opsidian tools. because of that, you can find the skull by looking for messages in bottles.
slot machine
the slot machine will always be on an small beach island, connected with a mangrove, wich is slightly bigger.
pro’s
- the slot machine, which can be used to get rare stuff, at the cost of dubloons
- the mangrove can be used to get grass and twigs early-game, and during dry season, even with no ice-flingomatic
con’s
- the slot machine can drain your sanity pretty fast, if you are not careful
- small island
difficulty: ****
grading: ****
size: **
notes: to easier find the slot machine, you should explore all beach biomes connected to mangroves, except if the mangrove has water beefalo, or is connected to other biomes than beach. note, sometimes another island will be connected to this island, making it hard to find it this way.
X marks the hat
a setpiece that always generates, this beach-island dont have anything special, besides the dubloons, the gold nuggets, the pirate hat, and the skeletons and the 5 rocky turf. the turf is useless, but very rare, because this is the only rocky turf in the whole shipwrecked world, unless you bring more with the seaworthy or the teleportato. unlike normal ds, RoG and dst, the rocky turf is useless, as magma turf replaces rocky turf in cobblestone recipe.
pro’s
- limpet rocks
con’s
- only beach
difficulty: ****
grading: **
size: ***
notes: this island cant be used for anything special, except taking whatever resources on the island. resources: dubloons, gold nuggets, pirate hat.
mis-generated islands
as i stated earlier, sometimes islands dont generate the way they usually do, or perhaps on top of each others, forming weird islands. here i will post pictures of some of these islands, and a brief descreption.
this starting island is special, as it has magma biome on it!
thanks
to nobody, i made this myself (for now)
