Overview
A very simple guide that explains the movement patterns of each ghost.
Intro
Welcome to this…possibly unecessary guide. This guide is a fun little side project I was able to throw together in a couple hours waiting for a big game to download. Most of the information here comes from my decades of Pac-Man fandom and I also filled in some of the blanks using the Pac-Man wiki. Enjoy!
Inky
INKY (male)
Origin: Ms. Pac-Man (1982)
Speed: Normal
Flaws: Predictable
Description: Most likely the first ghost you’ll see and the easiest to avoid. He’s bashful, blue and travels in a counter-clockwise pattern around a wall.
Blinky
BLINKY (male)
Origin: Ms. Pac-Man (1982)
Speed: Normal
Flaws: None
Description: Red in color, the most tenacious of the ghosts. He follows as if he was your own shadow. Pac-Man will never be able to double-back to avoid ghosts in front as long as he’s chasing. Best chance to get rid of him is with a Power Pill or Power-Ups rather than outrunning.
Pinky
PINKY (female)
Origin: Ms. Pac-Man (1982)
Speed: Fast
Flaws: Can be baited to move out of the way
Description: This speedy pink poltergeist is the fastest of all the ghosts. When you occupy the same lane she does, horizontally or vertically, she will rush at you. Get into a different lane as fast as you can if you trigger it. When you turn to run, make sure she’s not stopping at a wall where she can continue her chase.
Clyde
CLYDE (male)
Origin: Pac-Man (1980) Also used to be known as Pokey
Speed: Normal
Flaws: Always wants to travel downward
Description: Clyde is a careless orange ghost who casually tries to catch you. He can travel left, right and down but he can not travel up unless it’s the only direction. Afterall, bums like Clyde are too lazy to backtrack. In fact if he hits an intersection with a downward path, he will always take it.
Spunky
SPUNKY (female)
Origin: Pac-Mania (1987)
Speed: Normal
Flaws: Narcoleptic?
Description: A gray ghost that stays asleep until you get within a few dots proximity of her. Easily avoidable by not getting close. If you really have to get close though she’ll wake up and follow you much like Blinky will. However after a short time she’ll fall back asleep again. If she’s guarding a power-up, most times you can swoop in and get it before she awakes.
Funky
FUNKY (male)
Origin: Pac-Mania (1987)
Speed: Normal
Flaws: Only moves left-right
Description: This gnarly green ghost comes in groups of four and stays in a single lane. Moves left and right from one edge to the other so they’re avoidable if you time it right. However they can be particularly annoying if you’re being chased. Eat a power pill if they’re close by and eat them to build up your points combo.
Glitchy
GLITCHY (male ?)
Origin: Pac-Man 256 (2015)
Speed: Normal
Flaws: Can’t exist for very long
Description: Cycling the colors of all the other ghosts, Glitchy is an anomaly that appears at random. It will appear from glitch patterns that spawn around the board and will do its best to follow Pac-Man much like Blinky would. Fortunately Glitchy can’t exist for too long. When he stops to dissapear, stay away from the glitch pattern until it dissapears completely.
Sue
SUE (female)
Origin: Color used to be orange in Ms. Pac-Man (1982) and then forever changed to purple in Pac-Land (1984).
Speed: Very Slow
Flaws: Moves left-right very very slowly
Description: Sue is a purple-ish ghost that comes in groups of 3. Her objective is to block Pac-Man’s path, limiting his avenues of escape. Sue can be one of the more annoying ghosts to run into when you have a high score run going with lots of ghosts chasing you. The best way to take care of sue are Power-ups or moving past her on the opposite side of the board.
Outro
Well that’s it. There really isn’t much more to it. I made this guide during the time it took me to download a large game with slow internet. If you found the guide useful, appreciated the minimal amount of effort I put into it or just like it for whatever reason, please rate this guide up and possibly Follow it if you want to show it off to your friends or easily keep track of it.
