L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files – Trophy Guide & Collectibles

Overview

This is a complete guide on how to unlock all the achievements in L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.

ACHIEVEMENTS GUIDE

One For The File

Find and inspect a clue as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

You will unlock this achievement during the “Consul’s Car” case as soon as you inspect the first clue in Jacobs’ Backyard (the registration slip, missing Argentinean flag, missing license plates, missing wheel or the wrench).

Home Run

Hit a baseball with a bat.

This achievement can be unlocked at Jacobs’ Backyard during “The Consul’s Car” case. You will find a baseball bat and ball laying on the ground. Pick them up and just hit the ball with the bat. Watch this video to know exactly where the bat and the baseball are located.

The Plot Thickens

Find and solve an inspection puzzle.

During the “Consul’s Car” case you will have to visit the Dewey Bros Dealership garage. Here there’s a very easy puzzle to solve: you have to match the tools that are missing on the wall to the tools that are on the table. The achievement will be unlocked after solving this puzzle.

The Straight Dope

Use evidence to prove a lie as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

In the seven cases there are several occasions where you will need to prove that a suspect is lying about the information they are giving you or withholding. The first occasion to unlock this achievement will be available during “The Consul’s Car” case while interviewing Juan Francisco Valdez. After asking about the “Association with Gabriel”, select “Accuse” and use “Valdez’s notebook” as evidence against his statement.

Golden Boy

Clear a case finding every clue as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

This achievement can be unlocked by finding every clue in any of the four cases you play as LAPD Detective (The Consul’s Car, The Silk Stocking Murder, Reefer Madness and A Different Kind of War).
You can watch this video of the first case, “The Consul’s Car,” to find all the clues required for the achievement.

Keep A Lid On

Complete a brawl without losing your hat as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

This achievement is pretty easy to unlock. Just do not get hit during any fist fight in “The Silk Stocking Murder” or “Reefer Madness” cases. Always dodge or block your opponent’s attacks and punch when there’s an opening.

In Your Face

Land 50 slaps while brawling.

This achievement can be easily unlocked during a fist fight by hitting your opponent with back-hand slaps in the face. Once unlocked, you will be rewarded with The Untouchable Outfit that can be used from the case office.
Watch this video on how to get the achievement.

Soup In The Pot

Open both soup cans in Juan Garcia Cruz’s stash room.

During the case “Reefer Madness”, after the house shootout, head to the hidden room in the chicken coop behind the residence (pull on the light tan colored flour can on the middlemost shelf to open the secret door). Here you will find two sealed soup cans that you have to open with the mounted can opener. The achievement is unlocked after opening both these cans.

High Flyer

Find the flyer at Juan Garcia Cruz’s house and proceed straight to the 20th Century Market.

In the case “Reefer Madness”, after the shootout at Juan Garcia Cruz’s house, find and inspect the newspaper flyer in a back room that provides details on the 20th Century Market. Make sure also to locate and inspect these clues:

  • The wallet in the right coat pocket of the initial dead suspect at your feet.
  • The Gunman’s Silver Dollar on his left coat pocket.
  • The “Tijuana shipments” line in the blue Parnell ledger found in the secret room of the chicken coop.
  • Pick up and open the two cans that are also required for the “Soup in the Pot” achievement.

Once all the required clues have been collected, you must make your next driving destination the 20th Century Market – and not Parnell’s Soup Co. Factory – to unlock this achievement.

Spare A Dime

Complete the puzzle of the US Morgan silver dollars at Parnell’s Soup.

During the “Reefer Madness” case, after the shootout at Parnell’s Soup, you will have to solve a puzzle challenge by arranging Morgan silver dollars so that they spell “Masangkay Metals”. Collecting all Morgan silver dollars is not necessary to be given this puzzle.

The locations of the Morgan Silver Dollars are:

  • Juan’s Silver Dollar – Juan Garcia Cruz’s Residence in coat pocket of first dead criminal, Juan Cruz.
  • Sergio’s Silver Dollar – Meet Sergio during tour of Parnell’s Soup Factory (if you choose to go to this non-mandatory location).
  • Airto’s Silver Dollar – Interview Airto after the fist fight at 20th Century Market.
  • Ernesto’s Silver Dollar – Inspect left hand of first dead gunman after Parnell’s Soup Factory shootout.
  • Jorge’s Silver Dollar – Inspect breast pocket of second dead gunman after Parnell’s Soup Factory shootout.

Wooden Overcoats

Bring down a total of 30 bad guys with head shots.

You can easily unlock this achievement by replaying the cases “Armed and Dangerous”, “Reefer Madness” (which has three different shootouts) or “A Different Kind of War” (where there’s a big shootout at the end of the case). There are enough enemies in the game to get this achievement. Just use cover, wait until the person you want to shoot gets out of cover and do your best to shoot him in the face.

The City Of Angels

Complete every case available.

This achievement is pretty straight forward. If you’re having trouble with the game, you can watch this video which shows how to complete all 7 story cases (or ).

All You Can Eat Herring

Pick up 100 red herrings total.

For this achievement you have to pick up a total of 100 random objects that have nothing to do with the crime scenes. You can do this while completing the seven cases in the game.
A quick way to grind this achievement is by replaying the case “Upon Reflection” and picking up every object you find in the Alleyway Crime Scene or in Schroeder’s apartment (just make sure to save the progress by completing the case). Watch this video if you need help with the achievement.

Wherever I Lay My Hat

Throw a hat on the hat rack inside the office.

For this achievement you don’t have to throw the hat on the hat rack. Just try to gently place the hat on it and keep trying until you get the achievement (watch this video to know how to do it).

You’re So Vain

Try on all outfits in the mirror inside the office.

To unlock this achievement, you have to try on all outfits in the mirror. There are 7 different outfits in the game:

Back To The 40’s

Keep the needle above 88 mph for more than 10 seconds while driving.

You can unlock this achievement easily by using the Police Car at the beginning of the case “Upon Reflection” (Thanks to Matit333 for the tip). Get to the car, turn around and reach the end of the straight road. Turn around and drive full speed back on the bridge and as long as you can. Try your best to not slow down and avoid crashing into other vehicles – you can turn on the sirens to make things a little bit easier.

If you’re still having trouble with this achievement, try the runways at the small airport located in the Wilshire Division, or try using Roy Earle’s Cadillac in the case “Reefer Madness”.

Miles On The Clock

Drive more than 19.47 miles.

This achievement will most likely unlock naturally as you play the game, just drive around and explore 1947 Los Angeles.

If you want to know how many miles you have driven, press Start and select Statistics for more info. Alternatively, you can see the statistics in miles from the game’s page on your Rockstar Games Social Club profile.
Have fun!
