Overview
A guide on how to manage large builds on even the slowest computer!
Intro:
I know there are topics on how to reduce lag on your Blockland game out there but this guide is more focused on reducing lag for other people in your server if you have large brick count builds…
here are some tips i have picked up, correct me if im wrong…
Reduce brickcount!
1: reduce count by using larger bricks, thats easy: replace all of your 12 1x1x5 bricks with a 1x12x5… and so on, reducing brickcount might be the easyest way of reducing lag.
lets not make our builds entirely out of 1x1x1s shall we?
Reduce Faces!
2: fill in empty holes to reduce the amount of quads (faces) currently showing in your build, lets say every X is a 1x1x1 brick, you have built them into a hollow box in this pattern:
XXX XXX
X X -before/ After-XXX <—the box is filled in!
XXX XXX
to reduce the ammount of faces just add one brick in the middle, youll never see it because the bricks around it cover it up, this method will increase brickcount but reduce lag by removing the 4 unseen faces between the bricks!
this dosent only work with one brick, you can fill large areas with bricks and still have the ammount of faces decrease!
you can test this method yourself by building a large cube out of smaller 4×4 baceplate cubes and admin teleporting inside of it, when inside you should be able to see clear through every side of the cube with no 4×4 baceplates obstructing your vision, this is because the faces have dissapeard! thusly reducing lag.
Brick count buffer zones!
3:build large brick-count areas far away from each other so a minimal number of bricks are in someones FOV (field of view) at one given moment!
this is possably the best method for large brickcount builds over 80000 bricks, although if your build is already finished this might take some time behind a duplicator…
this might be a bit confusing, to help show you what i mean i made a fancy diagram
here is a diagram:
the picture on the right is the LESS LAGGY method of building large builds
the one on the left will be MORE LAGGY because the player has MORE bricks in his FOV
DIAGRAM 3000!
bacically we want to keep the player looking at the fewest bricks possable, this is why if you spin in a circle in a large build you will be lagged when looking at the most dence part of the build, in other words we want to take our build and make it less dence, as shown in the diagram.
