Overview
A complete guide on all of the achievements to help you score that extra perfect game.
Introduction
Hello and welcome to my LEGO Lord Of The Rings Achievement guide, based on my playthrough and how long I spent playing the game, I’ve come up with the standard overview that most guides do – there are many different guides out there, they’re all unique in their own little way, so hopefully my guide will help you – here is my view on the game and their achievements.
- Estimated Difficulty – 6/10
- Approximate time to 100% – 30-40 hours
- Playthroughs Needed – 2 (Story and then free play)
The game essentially is not that difficult, you can obtain the majority of the achievements naturally, you don’t really need to hunt for them, however, this is just my view.
Cheat Codes
With all LEGO games, there are some cheat codes that you can use to unlock many different things. Usually they’re just Red Bricks and Characters, but other things have been known to unlock.
There is only a code for the x2 Multiplier, the others you’ll have to unlock the hard way I’m afraid.

Story Related Achievements
There are officially 18 different levels including the prologue as Level 1. However, there are a number of story achievements that you can always unlock along the way, so I will show you the core achievements that you can get and then we can discuss the extra ones that you can obtain along the way, so the following 19 achievements you cannot miss.
Complete ‘Prologue’ (Level 1)
Complete ‘The Black Rider’ (Level 2)
Complete ‘Weathertop’ (Level 3)
Complete ‘The Pass of Caradhras’ (Level 4)
Complete ‘The Mines of Moria’ (Level 5)
Complete ‘Amon Hen’ (Level 6)
Complete ‘Taming Gollum’ (Level 7)
Complete ‘The Dead Marshes’ (Level 8)
Complete ‘Track Hobbits’ (Level 9)
Complete ‘War Attack’ (Level 10)
Complete ‘Helms Deep’ (Level 11)
Comlete ‘Osgiliath’ (Level 12)
Complete ‘The Secret Stairs’ (Level 13)
Complete ‘Cirith Ungol’ (Level 14)
Complete ‘The Paths of the Dead’ (Level 15)
Complete ‘The Battle of Plennor Fields’ (Level 16)
Complete ‘The Black gate’ (Level 17)
Complete ‘Mount Doom’ (Level 18)
Now, these are also kind of story related and not missable.
Complete the ‘Bonus Level’
After completing the main game, this will unlock, fast travel to Rivendell and travel towards the back part/waterfall and you’ll need Beserker to gain access to the cave.
Reach the top of Amon Hen without being caught by Boromir.
I personally got this on my first playthough on my Xbox and on my PC – you start the level with Boromir attempting to steal the ring from Frodo, you’ll be split into two teams when playing the level, either as Frodo or as the ‘trio’. When playing as Frodo, try to keep away from Boromir, I found that yo ucan only get caught by enterting the bush that he’s standing in. If you’re still having trouble, I recommend playing this level a few times to get a feel for it.
Defeat an Oliphaunt as Legolas.
There are two points where you fight Oliphaunt’s. Either in ‘The Dead Marshes’ or in ‘The Battle of Pelennor Fields’. In the marshes you play as Faramir whereas in ‘The Battle of Pelennor Fields’, you’ll play as Legolas and you must use him to destroy an oliphaunt, so this achievement is unmissable, but can be obtained earlier if you do freeplay.
During ‘Prologue’, jump in the fire as Isildur.
This achievement (for me) was the bigest ball ache, it unlocked instantly on the Xbox, but didn’t on the PC.
This is how it worked for me, start a brand new game and start playing the ‘Prologue’, at this point do not unlock any extras and proceed to the point where you’ll about to go through the double doors as Isildur and Elrond. Once you’re inside, you only need to run to the right platform to finish the ‘Prologue’, here you simply switch to Isildur and jump (You must jump) into the lava.
Form The Fellowship of the Ring
This achievement is unmissable, after you’ve completted ‘Weathertop’ and had the disussio nat Rivendell, you’ll all be together in a sort of photo scene, the achievement will shortly unlock after the level.
Character Achievements
Now for all the character originated achievements, these are all when you need to do something with a specific character or a couple of things.
Unlock all playable characters.
Real simple, you must collect all players, the majority you obtain from completing levels and the rest are obtaine din freeplay, but you must buy them as well. Here are some numbers for you:
- 29 Players are unlocked through Story Mode
- 2 Players are unlocked by playing the Bonus Level
- 43 Players are unlocked by wandering around in Free Play
- 2 Players are unlocked right near the end (The Blacksmith by crafting every Mithril item & Lurtz(Newborn) once 100% has been obtained)
Real simple guys.
Throw Gimli 30 times
This is fairly straight foward, unfotuantly, its not achievement by doing it by story only. There is a quicker way to do it, in a level where you’re playing as the ‘trio’ (Aragorn, Legolas & Gimli), simply pick up Gimli with Aragorn and throw him to Legolas, then repeat until its unlocked. Its worth noting that in Middle Earth, you only have two characters, so you must do this in a level where you can play as three characters i.e. Helms Deep.
Fish perfectly 20 times by pressing the icon as it flashes
As you play through the story, you have the option to fish at certain poitns with Merry or Gollum, to clarify this achievement, you will fish “three times”, the icon will flash with a wire around it and then it’ll flash for a little bit, thats when you press the button, do this three times and that counts as a successful time. You can farm this by simply fast travelling to the Mines of Moria map stone and then fish at the jetty below.
Complete 2 cooking puzzles.
The first one you have to do is in Story mode on ‘Weathertop’ where you have to get a fish, a tomato and an egg. Simple replay the level and do it again, you must be playing as Sam though to get this as he is the only one who can do this.
Finish one of Gimli’s opponents as Legolas in ‘Helms Deep’
This is pretty easy too, in the ‘Helms Deep’ level, you’ll be fighting Urak-Hai on the wall. They require two hits to kill, switch to Gimli and hit them once to remove their armor and then quickly switch to Legolas to finish that enemy off, I got this through story mode luckily.. there have been a few bugs with this achievement, you must finish the opponent quickly or it kind of resets, difficult to explain,
Use the Ent Draught on Pippin.
The ‘Ent Draught’ is a treasure item that you find during Level 9, ‘Track Hobbits’, its found just after you start playing as Treebeard behind a tree that you plant. Once you have recovered this item and when you’re freely roaming the map, switch one character to Pippin and the other character can be anybody, then open up the item chest and select the ‘Ent Draught’, then simply smack Pippin around the head with it for it to unlock, I did take a highly amusing screenshot of the effects.
Defeat Gollum with Gollum
This achievement is easy, but for some it can be a bit of a pain. You can do this either in Middle Earth or in a Free Play level, simply switch to Gollum and then switch your other character to Gollum as well, note if you have Gollum in your wheel of characters, once you switch to him there, it will switch back to your other character, you must click on the symbol at the bottom of the wheel to select him. Once you’re both Gollum, simply attack the other until he’s destroyed and you’ll have the achievement.
Turn an enemy into a skeleton and make them dance.
This achievement requires two things, you firstly need to find the two designs to forge the Mithril Disco Phial and the Mithril Skeleton Sword, you could also find the design for the Mithril Skeleton Bow, but that is not essential to this achievement – just one Skeleton item will do.
All of the skeleton designs and the Phial can be found in Middle Earth, the Mithril Disco Phial is the design found in Minas Tirith, the Mithril Skeleton Sword is the design found at Weathertop and the Mithril Skeleton Bow is the design found in Lothlorien. Once you’ve found all three, go to the Blacksmith in Bree and forge them – each item costs 16 Mithril bricks, so you’ll need a minimum of 32. Once you have forged two items, select the Skeleton Sword/Bow and hit the other person, then switch to the Mithril Disco Phial and watch them dance!
Defeat 42 Uruk-hai as Legolas.
Now, I can’t honestly remember if I got this by the end of Story Mode or not, I definitely remember obtaining it in a Free Play level. You just simply have to kill 42 Urak-hai, easiest way to get this is to play ‘Helms Deep’ and just kill them, if you don’t progress through the level, they’ll just keep spawning. You can also get a few on Amon Hen as well.
Travel to Isengard as every playable Hobbit.
This is a funny achievement, really. There are 6 hobbits that you need to do this achievement:
- Frodo
- Sam
- Merry
- Pippin
- Bilbo Baggins
- Rosie
The first four are unlocked after your story playthrough, you can purchase the other two in the Hobbiton area as well.
I got this achievement by fast travelling to Helms Deep and then walking to Isengard, once the white letters of Isengard appear at the bottom of the screen, fast travel back and repeat with another hobbit. You do not need to use variants of the hobbits, i.e. the Gondor Armor or Weary hobbits.
I hear that you can fast travel to Isengard, break the gate and go in and then run out. I personally haven’t tried that so I cannot confirm whether or not it works.
Travel to Trollshaws as Bilbo.
I’m pretty sure that we’re playing Lord of the Rings right? Not the Hobbit. This is a “Hobbit” reference, In the book/film, Bilbo finds himself with the dwarfs surrounded by three mountain trolls. Simply run into that area as a Bilbo character and you’ll unlock it, Trollshaws can be found between Weathertop and Rivendell – just before the point where Arwen raises the water – just after the Weathertop level in story mode, you are upon a horse and Trollshaws is just to your left.
Equip Aragorn with the Mushroom Crown.
Buggy buggy achievement, I’ll explain why. You find the treasure item in the second level (The Black Rider) right at the end near a plant that Sam has to dig up. If you were playing the level in Free Play and switch to Aragorn and wear the crown, it doesn’t unlock (at least it didn’t for me).
I have also found out that you must be playing as the original Aragorn and wear the crown for it to unlock, you must wait until you’re in Middle Earth and have Aragorn selected before trying to wear the crown.
Misc. Achievements
These achievements are random snippets of ‘fun’.. I guess..
Walk into Mordor.
Once you’ve finished the story, fast travel to the Map Stone by Mount Doom and then walk up the ramp into Cirith Ungol and the achievement will pop. You can also fast travel to Cirith Ungol, walk out of the area and walk back in to unlock it.
Dress a character completely in treasure items.
I found this best to do whilst roaming the free world, you must dress a character completely in treasure items – so this includes their head, chest, hands and feet. You can use a combination of forged Mithril items and general treasure items to complete this and really create some funky characters.
I got this achievement by wearing the Mithril Headdress, Wooden Armor, Mithril Boxing Gloves and the Mithril Boots – you can wear whatever you want, even combine some of the achievements.
Craft the Fire and Ice bows.
To get this achievement, you must find both designs and forge them.
The Fire Bow design is found in the Level 11, ‘Helms Deep’ – once you’ve toppled the Urak-Hair ladders, you must destroy some Mithril Brick either with the Beserker character or with the Mithril Fireworks.
The Ice Bow design is found in Level 14, ‘Cirith Ungol’ right at the end of the level whilst you’re trying to get the armor for Sam and Frodo.
Both of these designs cost 8 Mithril bricks each, once you’ve forged them both in Bree – the achievement will unlock.
Complete a level in co-op
Real simple, you must complete a Story Level in local Co-Op.
Collect more than 10,000,000,000 studs
Just to clarify before we start, the bonus level studs that you collect do NOT COUNT towards this achievement. The red bricks are unlocked in Middle Earth after crafting/finding treasure items in levels. There is a quick way to do this achievement, you can either play through each level and do it manually or you can load up Helm’s Deep and destroy the gate to the secret area and just keep holding up, you’ll received roughly 4 million each second or so, I found that my game crashed after I had more than 500,000,000 studs. Just save and exit and watch it tally up.
Complete ‘The Mines of Moria’ in under 15 minutes.
You can only get this achievement on Level 5. It must be done in story mode, I recommend playing through the level a few times to know what to do at each point.
You can however cheat this quite badly….
Simply enter the level in Story Mode, then press Save and Exit level – make sure you’ve completed the Story Level before doing this
Final Achievements
These are the final few achievements that you’ll need to score the perfect game!
Collect all the Mithril Bricks.
There are a total of 250 bricks to be collected.
- 18 Bricks for completing each Story Chapter
- 18 Bricks for True Adventurer
- 18 Bricks for 10/10 Minikits
- 18 Bricks for Mithril Designs
- 18 Bricks for All treasure items found
The other 160 bricks are spread out around Middle Earth, once you’ve unlocked some characters, I recommend running around and picking up the immediate ones you can find nice and quickly, you don’t have to do that but its something that I personally do to lighten the load (Ha! reference..) later on.
Craft every Mithril Item.
There are 30 different items to be forged, there is one design found in each story chapter, which leaves 12 to be found in the free roaming area. You can use the map to make this easier, each item requires a certain amount of bricks – once you have received all bricks, you’ll get this achievement.
Complete all the Fetch Quests in Middle-Earth.
When you’re roaming Middle-Earth, you’ll notice a green ? – that is a quest finder, it can be a red brick or a general treasure item or even a Mithril item. Simply complete all of these and the achievement will unlock. Once you craft/gain an item, if you’ve activated the quest, the marker will flash a Red Exclamation mark colour to indicate that you can turn in that particular quest.
Unlock all the Map Stones in Middle-earth
This one can be unlocked in the story, however I have left it to this section as some map-stones can be missed. There are 16 mapstones that are dotted around Middle-Earth and all you have to do is discover them all, now by discover, you must go on the highlighted bit and press B (Xbox Controller), if you’ve not discovered it, it will then tell you that you have. I recommend activating these ASAP as they make fast travelling much easier, here are all 16 if you’re stuck:
- Hobbiton
- Bree
- Weathertop
- Rivendell
- The Pass of Caradhras
- Lothlorien
- Isengard
- Amon Hen
- Emyn Muil
- The Dead Marshes
- The Black Gate
- Helm’s Deep
- Edoras
- Minas Tirith
- Minas Morgul
- Cirith Ungol
Achieve True Adventurer in every level.
Simply fill the stud counter quota needed for each level, if you’re struggling, revisit each level with the stud multipliers on to make this easier.
Collect all the Red Bricks.
There are 20 Red Bricks to be found and 16 locations, some have more then one red brick and others have none, they require a mix of Mithril and Treasure items to unlock, you can either buy them all or you can cheat and use the codes, but for this achievement, you still need to buy the brick.
Get 100%.
The final achievement, there is a quick checklist for making sure you have 100%.
- Make sure you have found all 250 Mithril Bricks
- Have obtained all 180 Minikits
- Achieved True Adventurer on every level
- Unlocked and purchased every playable character
- Every Fetch Quest done
- Every Mithril item forged
- Every Red Brick purchased
- All Map Stones activated
- Bonus Level complete
Some people say you must create a custom character too, I don’t think that’s needed, but its a possibility – you can do that in Bilbo’s house.
Closing Remarks
The achievements for this game are not instant, they all seem to unlock as you progress through the game. If approximately 30-40 hours, you’ll have them all!
If you’re having any problems or something is different or maybe you have a suggestion, please leave it in a comment below.
Thank you for reading.
