Lin’s Ultimate Guide to Enter the Gungeon!

Overview

This is a guide where anything and everything in the gungeon is slapped out as all 3 meals of the day, so prepare your mind for all the information your about to see, doesn’t matter if your a noob or pro, this is the guide for YOU! There will always be something new in store, so why not try it out?

WARNING:a few excess spoilers are in this article!

any crossed out words are spoilers 😉

1.Know the game and basics

To fully become a master at any game, you must first know what the game is about, what your supposed to do, and how to play the game, in this case, ETG is a game where you are one of several characters, starting with 4 (you can get a new starter character but only in multiplayer) who are trying to kill their pasts for they did something they want to badly change, and in order to do so, you must dwell into a dungeon only full of gun related items (all items all have some connection to a gun) where you must kill enemy’s related to guns or can shoot bullets, and then kill the bosses at each end of the floor you are on, there are 5 floors that you must complete, though there are extra floors that allow you to access hidden secrets or new items, after reaching floor 5, you must slay a deadly dragon made from shells and after killing it, gain access to the gun that can kill the past, by shooting yourself you will “win” the game, this is because you have not gotten the bullet that can kill the past! You must collect very rare/power items in order to create the gun, along your journey you can meet friends or foes. after using the BKP (bullet that can kill the past) with the GKP (gun that can kill the past) your character will be transported to the time they want to change, changing it will allow you a new skin for your character, and unlocks new items!

2. Seek to understand everything

This is something many don’t think about much, but in order to not get trashed by the many dangers in the gungeon, you must first understand your character and items/guns they carry at the moment, you must also know as much as you can about your enemy and how they work. keep exploring, and take note of what NCP’s say and the itempedia says about the mobs or items/guns in game.

3.Experiment & Explore

Keep on trying new things, it never hurts to try, only hurts to not try, and a famous quote from our little green master yoda “do or do not, there is no try” trust me, he says it. and it means that you only do or don’t do things, not try, this is great in this case, for you do the experiment and might gain the upper hand, or not try and have a lower chance of surviving.

4.DODGE DODGE DODGE!

The dodge roll is a legendary power taught by sir Manuel to few, and is very annoying or your best friend! If you know how to use your dodge roll correctly, you can not only almost never get hit, but get across tight spots very quickly, hence greatly improving your chances of survival, but when it’s annoying is when you cannot use it correctly, hence falling into every bullet, pit, trap, or deranged blobulonian empire citizen/trooper, or when your enemy gains that power (gun cultist) where they can just roll away from your perfect OP shot from your best gun, and when it’s your last bullet from that gun… but the dodge roll isn’t everything, you can simply just walk behind objects that block bullets, flip tables, or just walk away from the bullet! another way to “doge” is that fact that some items/guns will destroy or absorb bullets, allowing you momentary “safe zone” for until another bullet goes in line.

5. Use your ammo wisely

If you want the best result, use your guns sparingly, using guns that are weaker with more ammo over stronger items with less ammo is much better for weaker mobs, but when bosses arise, you can use your strong guns. also your gun with the largest ammo and least dangerous/powerful to shoot around in spots you think will have a hidden wall that can have resources you could use. and remember, no spray and prey, aim and shoot, not random spraying of bullets, you might hit something, but mostly won’t, unless you have homing guns or boss will get hit no matter what.

6. Speed & flight is KEY

If you can get your hands on it, get as much speed as you can, this said, will lead you into pits, so that is why you need to add wings, jetpack, guns that make you float, ect. with both of those, all you need is a close range item or homing and you are pretty hard to kill, or you may just end up having slow reflexes or not paying attention to that stray bullet coming your way…

7. Keep moving!

No matter what, keep on moving, if you don’t move, you could be an easy target, but if you see a enemy that predicts where you will be, you need to make sure that you quickly change directions or else no matter how fast you are, you will be hit unless you destroy that bullet or doge it. and forever moving also helps you become a harder target, much harder… speed also lets you get up close and personal and usually stop the fight before the enemy even starts it.

8. RUN AND SHOOT EXPLOSION MEN!!!

Whenever you see a dynamite stick or grenade running after you, your first thought will be one of the 3 “BRING IT ON”, “HOLY ^%&$ A BOMB! RUN” or “SHOOT IT! SHOOT IT!” well, the correct response is… “run and shoot that one down…” for if you shoot and stay where you are, it could reach you and blow up in your face, if you run away, you could run into another or they can catch up to you (they are speedy little devils) or you could run into a stray bullet or a prediction bullet fired from an enemy that predicts correctly where you will be, and “bring it on” really? What a stupid way to die.

9. Use the synergy

In a recent update, the makers have added a new item in the game, synergy, this is when 2 or more objects have complete balance, magic, link, or some crap like that between one another, letting them give you an extra skill to the item, gun, or yourself, that is what a synergy is, and if you get a lot…well, your very deadly then. Use any synergy you get your muddy hands on, the ETG wiki has all of the synergy combos (I think,it’s a very long list).

10. Use all tricks up your sleeve (not hacking)

If you know ANY things that are allowed in game to do things that you enjoy doing, do it, but better yet then confuse you, I can give you an example, use tricks like for the winchester challenge, use an object that lets you fly like a passive or active to fly to the targets and shoot them, easy right? correct, unless the game devs fix that heh.

11. Keep junk and guns!

This may seem stupid, but I reassure you, this is no joke, there is a companion named “sir Junken” and it will attack enemys, but only deals damage after having junk in your inventory, and he becomes more powerful until junk #7 which is his final form that completely trashes EVERYTHING in sight, I personally use him to quickly destroy any mobs. Junk is also used for synergy items, so keep junk in case you get it. And keeping guns…everyone knows that right? WRONG, some will put away guns for better ones, but there is an issue, there are 3 mistakes that will happen, 1: there is a ring called “unity” that the more guns you have, the more damage you deal with the gun you are holding. 2: it could be part of a synergy, and synergy makes everything op. 3: you could run out of ammo and wish that you had that gun you got rid of.

12. Watch your curse…

Possibly the worst possible thing that can happen to you is when your about to kill the high dragun but see an amazing item or gun, only, it’s cursed, after not knowing how much curse you already have, you go for it, then BOOM, you see the Lord of the Jammed floating after you, your chances of beating the dragon have dropped by half! Curse is the most annoying/deadly thing that can happen, for with each curse, there is a chance for a gungeon dweller to become a jammed, jammed have 2x as much hp,and damage then the non-jammed version of it, take for example a bullet kin, a jammed bullet kin deals 1 full heart, not half, and has 2x as much HP. And if you reach 10 curse? well, an immortal being called “Lord of the Jammed” appears, it is like a gunreaper, but only has a crown and a skull as a face, and isn’t white & black, but red & black. It will swing it’s scythe creating a few bullets that go in all directions, the worst part is it can go through walls to attack you, and will never go away. The signs of a cursed object is that in stores they have a question mark after them (in most cases) or ones that are naturally cursed have a dark purple cloud around them, picking up a curse will have a purple skull float over your head then fade away. But curse does have some good parts to it, while jammed may be stronger, they also drop more cash. Some items even grow stronger the more curse you have, but anyways, there is one issue with all the good and bad that could turn your opinion to BAD, just one thing… Bosses…Can…Be…Jammed!

13. Unlock everything

An obvious tip, but many people want to know how to unlock things, well, in the case of the robot you will need to find a broken TV (when you have the ability to skip a floor thanks to a NCP) in the elevator, you will need to take the TV to the forger in the 5th chamber, she will fix the TV, then letting you unlock the robot. Their past is when they are an operative for a organization that wants a person called the Last Human dead, to complete the robots past, you must kill the last human. In the case of the Cultist, all you need is multiplayer, but ONLY multiplayer. The Cultist’s past is when at first it was to change the assumed fact that it wants it’s sibling to take the blame for spilling grape juice on a couch. It will then change to the fact that a “protagonist” is making the cultist have some type of negative emotion, thus making the cultist want to kill the protagonist, you will fight the protagonist to the death in the past, no matter who wins, you change their past. In the bullet’s case, you need to kill the past of at least 1 character. There will then be bullet kin that won’t attack and have red capes sometimes, let those bullet kin live, after you let several live (they teleport away after a while) you will unlock the bullet, who might just have the hardest past to kill, for it is the only past with 2 bosses, it also has you defeat 2 chain gunners, and all doing this while having a wooden version of the starter sword you get but without the power to destroy bullets and shoot a rainbow sword missile. The other 4 characters are simple, you instantly unlock them when you start the game, each has a different past, in the Marine’s case, you are trying to change the fact you abandoned your comrades when a monster broke through a portal in a lab, to change the past, you must kill the monster. In the Hunter’s past, you with your past companion who is a wolf (you start with a dog as your in the gungeon) and you are trying to take a relic from a mad scientist, you will get caught but have the chance to attack and destroy the scientist and his creation. To win you must kill the scientist and his monster. In the Convict’s case, you must go back to when a friend betrays you to an organization, to change it, you must kill your betrayer and then escape through a hovercar. In the Pilots case, you and your friend Z are caught by another organization and you have the choice to save Z or leave as Z tells you to, to change it, you must destroy the fleet of ships owned by the organization attacking you and Z, you must do this in a star wars like battle with spaceships. Defeating the past allows you to gain new items and costumes for your character(s). You must also explore everything and do quests and buy new items from shops as well to unlock more things. For new things give you a greater chance of survival.

14. Don’t Rage Quit, Keep your Cool!

Honestly, possibly the single reason your “bad” at the game (if you are) are because you rage quit after you die multiple times, but honestly, part of the game is dying over and over, and over, and over, and OVER. Another reason you could be bad is you lose your cool and go “no no No No NO NO!” after all, seeing a huge stream of bullets everywhere and you have only 1 heart left could make you lose your cool, which allows mistakes to appear and ruin your day. So don’t rage quit, keep your cool, and make sure you except the deaths all the time.
