Overview
This is a guide about liquids, just liquids.
Introduction
Hello! This guide is about liquids. I doubt that this list will prove useful but might as well give some info about the mechanics of liquids in Starbound.
Overall, whats the point of liquids in general?
Well…uhm. I’m sure there is something creative you can do with liquids, right?
Do people really need a guide for this?
I’m nearly convinced somone out there is confused about one of the basic mechanics of this game.
There seems to be some missing/faulty data here…
Well, this is an “Incomplete Guide”…
Now onto the actual “guide” section…
Types of liquids
These are the liquids that are currently in the game…
1. Water
2. Lava
3. Oil
4. Liquid Healing Water
5. Erichus Fuel
6. Poison
7. Coconut Milk
8. Swamp Water
There used to be 2 more liquids in the game that are now removed…
1. Alien Juice
2. Coffee
Whilst coffee is still in the game, it is no longer a placeable liquid. It’s just a consumable now.
Alien juice was (I think) replaced with water and poison on alien planets. It no longer exsist.
Obtaining those liquids
Whats the point of knowing what liquids do without actually having them? No point at all. That’s why this guide is here to tell you where you can obtain them.
Here is the list:
Water-You can obtain water in most of the planet types (Mostly in Ocean and Frigid Ocean). You can also find it underground in certain underground biomes on every non-ocean planet.
Healing Water– You can obtain Healing Water in Oasis* biomes on Desert planets. It also can appear in certain surface ruins. This liquid is bright blue and it produces a bright blue glow.
*You can identify this biome by looking for reeds, water pools and palm trees.
Lava– You can obtain lava in the Core* of every planet or on the surface of some plant types. These are the planet types: Lava Ocean and Volcanic. This liquid is red and it produces a red glow.
*The Core will have a pool of lava that covers the center of the planet. It can provide an endless supply of lava but after a certain level of depth, you will not be able to place blocks, so you should proceed to the Core with care.
Oil– Oil can be obtained in Tar* biomes on Desert planets. It can also be found underground in Underground Tar* biomes. It can also appear underground Scorched planets. This liquid is black.
*You can identify this biome by looking for bones and oil pools. The entire biome will be completely made out of tar and possibly bone.
Coconut Milk– Coconut can be obtained by throwing coconuts* at a block (It needs a background block so it will not leak out). This liquid is pale white.
*Coconuts can be obtained by harvesting the top of a plam tree. But only the palm trees from the Ocean planets.
Posion– Posion can be found in many places (this includes dungeons). But they are mostly common on Posion Ocean and Mutated planet types. This liquid is green.
Liquid Erichus Fuel– Liquid Erichus fuel can be found underground all Moons*. It can also be bought in the Infinity Mart on the Outpost. This liquid is bright pink.
*Moons are usally found at the edge of every solar system.
Swamp Water– Swamp water can be found in Swamp* biomes. This liquid is dark brown.
*Swamp biomes can be identified by the flat and muddy ground. The biome also houses a mist. The biome is mostly found on Forest planets.
Effects and reactions
Liquids react with each other in different ways, they also have their own unique properties.
1. Healing water will apply a “Regeneration” buff for a short duration of time (1-2 seconds). Staying in the healing water will make the buff last infinitely.
2. Posion (including poison rain) will apply a “Poisoned” debuff that deals periodic damage to you for a short duration of time (6-8 seconds). Staying in the poison will make the debuff last infinitely.
3. Water (including rain) will apply a “Wet” debuff(?) that might make you move slowly and lower you jump height for a short duration of time (3-4 seconds). It also may or may not make you take more electric damage but that I have no proof for. The debuff will only be applied to you when you leave physical water after submerging yourself in it, staying in the water will not apply the debuff.
4. Lava will apply a “Melting” debuff that deals periodic damage to you as long as you stay in contact with the lava. After leaving the lava, it will apply the debuff “Burning” which lasts for short duration of time (6-8 seconds).
5. Oil will apply a “Slowness” debuff that slows you down for a short duration of time (3-4 seconds). Staying in the oil will make the debuff last infinitely.
6. Water and lava can be mixed to form magma rock.
7. Oil and lava can be mixed to replace the oil with lava.
8. Water and posion can be mixed to replace the water with posion.
9. Water and healing water can be mixed to replace water with healing water.
10. If you submerge a bed in healing water when you use it, you will get both regeneration buffs.
11. Even though swamp water is basically water, it does not apply any buffs or debuffs.
Other mixtures will make the liquids stack on each other, sometimes in weird patterns. This is demonstrated in this outdated picture:
*The pinkish-white liquid in the image is Alien juice. As I mentioned before, it is no longer in the game.
In conclusion…
Liquids, while they can be of some use they are rarely needed… the same goes for this guide.
This is the end of the guide, I would be pleased if anyone would get any use out of this.
If not then I thank you for reading (or skimming) through this guide anyway. Goodbye.
PS: I am also working on adapting this guide to Frackin Universe but it might take a while as I try my best to not use any wikis to get my info (which does make the guide less accurate). I may or may not make it.
