Local Play: The Definitive Guide

Overview

A guide to help players make completely custom local play games, for the ultimate experience, using game files and console commands.The tree was the only photo I had on my computer less that 2Mb…

Game Rules

Win+R keys open Run. Type ‘Appdata’ and hit enter. Open Local. Open Insurgency. Open Saved. Open Config. Open WindowsClient. Open Game (Game.ini). This is where you can change the rule of a certain game mode; such as Friendly Fire, (how many) Bots, Time and Waves.
Note: not all rules can be changed in each game mode.
Find how to change the different game modes here. It has been written before.
[link]
Note (again): [/script/insurgency.ins’gamemode’gamemode] only change the ‘GameMode’, for example for checkpoint game rules [/script/insurgency.inscheckpointgamemode]
Once you have entered the game mode you want to change, then put the information you want in. You do not have to follow the rules =[ZMP]= has written out, for example
bBots=True
SoloEnemies=14
FriendlyBotQuota=8
Could be,
bBots=True
SoloEnemies=20
FriendlyBotQuota=15
Personally, making for a livelier game, of course this can be tweaked to find your own balance you enjoy.
I have only changed game rules using this method. I believe there to be alternative methods, also external to the game itself to change certain rules, that I have not tried yet.

Admin Menu

Now to in the actual game itself. Most of this stuff is only useful in Local Play, although It can be used when hosting an online server.
First things first, do yourself a favour in bind ‘Toggle Admin Menu’ to a key, I use the = key so it stays out of the way in gameplay. You can find it by opening Insurgency Sandstorm and from the Main Menu go to Settings. Go to Binds and scroll down to the User Interface/HUD section. Then click the Change button and then press the button you would like to bind it to. (Sorry if that went a bit basic but for extremely new players this could be the difference in them enjoying the game and not…)
Now next time you are in a game, whether it be straight after making the bind or if you read on to make a custom game, which I will show next, you should press the key you bound the admin server to and click it and then have a mess around with the settings. I suggest playing around in the Developer tab as the will usually be the ones effecting your current game, but there are uses in the other tabs also.

Console Maps

The next bit you need to learn is to use the console. This is where you can, quickly, directly change gameplay, for example selecting certain Mutators or which Game Mode you want to play. To open the Console, press the ` key which is meant to be the ~ key I think but on my computer it is `. (I don’t know?) It is located to the left of the 1 key. Then you must type a command in (I advise copying my example below). This command will play the game Security Checkpoint on the map Farmhouse.
Open Farmhouse?Scenario=Scenario_Farmhouse_Checkpoint_Security?Lighting=Day?
This is the general formula:
“MapCodeName”?Scenario=Scenario_”MapName”_”GameMode”_”Faction”?Lighting=”Day”
Obviously, the bits with the “s are what you would change to select different game modes and maps. I’m hoping you can figure out the game modes as they’re all the same, but if you don’t you can refer to the menu screens. However, for some awful reason the game Devs didn’t write the same rule for the maps and the process of finding what to call the maps was pain staking. Thusly, I have decided you all must go through the same pain as I endured.

JK lol. Here is each map with its name:
Maps and their names
• Bab = Bab
• Tideway = Buhriz
• Crossing = Canyon
• Outskirts = Compound
• Farmhouse = Farmhouse
• Ministry = Ministry
• Summit = Mountain
• Refinery = Oilfield
• Power Plant = PowerPlant
• Precinct = Precinct
• Hillside = Sinjar
• Tell = Tell
• Hideout = Town
This was the sincerest form of annoyance to find out.
Note: The scenario part of the console command doesn’t change only the first part changes, for example:
Open Sinjar?Scenario=Scenario_Hillside_Checkpoint_Security?Lighting=Day?

Console Mutators

To play with mutators you must first know which mutators you would like to use, listed elsewhere such as:
[link]
An example of a correct mutator console command would be:
Open Farmhouse?Scenario=Scenario_Farmhouse_Checkpoint_Security?Lighting=Day?Mutators=Allyoucaneat
The general formula for this being:
“MapCodeName”?Scenario=Scenario_”MapName”_”GameMode”_”Faction”?Lighting=”Day”?mutators=”MutatorName”,”AnotherMutatorName”
You can add as many mutators as you like.

Console Mods

Modded maps work in the same way, so once you are subscribed to a map you can use it like this:
Open TORO?Scenario=Scenario_TORO_Checkpoint_Security?Lighting=Day?Mutators=AllYouCanEat
Mods can also be quickly applied, so once subscribed to them you can use them like this:
Open TORO?Scenario=Scenario_TORO_Checkpoint_Security?Lighting=Day?Mutators=ISMCarmory_Legacy,AllYouCanEat
