Overview
A HOTAS control mapping for Logitech X 56 that I found most effective and convenient playing Star Wars Squadrons. I hope it can benefit players newly using this flight control. However, it can be modified according to individual preference.
Before playing
You need to modify some default options
1. Disable the option “Throttle down to stop boosting”
2. Adjust the microphone mode to “Push to talk” to reduce causing noises from background
3. Power management
You have the option to change it to advanced or begin with the default basic power management then changing it later to advanced with leveling up as it has great advantage at the high level of play.
Make sure you choose “Maximize power” instead of individual increments.
Flight control
I changed the default movement and assigned the X axis for roll and Z rotation axis for yawing as it’s felt more natural with the flight stick.
The right thumb will be doing most of the job between power management, targeting and left auxiliary while the index will be switching between the fire trigger and right auxiliary. With experience and muscle memory, the middle finger will replace the index at trigger while simultaneously using the right auxiliary. The lever down the stick is suitable for counter measures then the pinky button down for pinging targets.
As the left hand holds the throttle, the index finger button works very well for boost/drift (Push to boost/ Hold to drift- or push second time to cancel boost). The pinky finger will will be over an up/down switch suitable for power shunting in Ties and also near a wheel which can redistribute shields. The left thumb will use the targeting wheel or push the large button on top for shield balancing.
Other switches on the throttle base are used for menu, tactical map access, targeting or communication shortcuts
